So RX5700 XT is 9,75 TFLOPs and costs 449$... how they will fit more powerfull GPU (12 TFLOPs for example) in the next generation consoles and Ryzen CPU and SSD for the price of up to $ 500.

I'm reading the EG interview right now and the fact that they refuse to acknowledge Lockhart might be another wise chess move.

Why? Because they possibly want to catch Sony off-guard at E3 2020 by also announcing a value-oriented $299 SKU for the masses.

If they had confirmed it at E3 2019, Sony would have enough time to do the same or maybe even downgrade PS5 specs and release it this year for $399.

During E3 2020 not only APU designs will be set in stone (too late for more R&D), but mass production at TSMC/Foxconn will be ready to commence as well.

They've been very careful with their wording so far. For example, Phil said they're committed to supporting physical media, but he didn't clarify that only the higher-priced SKU is destined to have a Blu-Ray drive.

Possible. My money is on either 1) its not actually going to market; or 2) they are worried about the optics if they essentially confirm PS5 is more powerful than their cheaper offering a year out.

PS5 at $499 is going to compete against Anaconda at $499, not Lockhart at $299.

They're going to serve totally different audiences (4K/enthusiasts vs 1080p/casuals).
 
Isn’t the X still $50-$100 more expensive though?
Compared to what? And how is X related to next-gen consoles?

I expect both S and X to be decommissioned from the market next year.

Sony on the other hand will keep selling PS4 Super Slim 7nm at $199, along with the PS5...

For consoles I don't worry, but for the PC it's another story and the most shocking thing about all this is that they have no answer to RTX 2080, 2080 ti or Titan :messenger_neutral:
To have a ideia for consoles...

The HD 7870 was the card launched near PS4... it is basically that RX 5700 position now. HD 7870 had a TPB of 175W... PS4 ended with a smaller and lower clocked version with 165W. Now we are talking about a card of 225W TPB... to get close to it performance it will need a console over 200W.

Is it possible? Yeap Xbox One X is a 245W TBP console.

But the room is pretty low right to anything significantly over that RX 5700 XT.

Perhaps we will get HD 5700 Pro level :(

Next-Gen consoles won't release until the end of next year. RDNA 2 will already be released by that time with Ray Tracing. This is what they will use it.

Besides, next-gen consoles will use a custom solution. It's way too soon to make any type of conclusion.


The waiting AMD game lol

Always the next-gen arch will delivery and the perf/watt continue being laughable.

I think this is the chip inside the ps5 guys, this RX5700 is probably it with some added ray tracing capabilities. This chip was probably finalized around the time that the ps5 chip has to be going through final revisions. Adios 12TF, RDNA2 won't be there in time for ps5 unfortunately. That being said this machine has incredible specs and will perform wonderfully. A lot of features in there will make a difference in console games. Features improving input lag, and image quality are welcomed addition. I expect ps5 and snek to have some of the best upscaling technology we've ever seen on console or perhaps beyond

Halo is already confirmed to be supported on the S and I believe they said they were going the Destiny route with a 5 or 10 year plan?

E3 also just showed off a bunch of CGI trailers aimed at the current gen and they’re probably also 3 or so years away from release given they weren’t ready to show gameplay.

And on top of that there was a rumour that the current gen would be supported for the foreseeable future.

They have plenty of XB1 console stock at retailers (it's not like they're selling like hotcakes), but production will likely end in 2020. Cross-gen support is a given, that's for sure.

X will no longer make sense (due to Anaconda) and S having a die shrink at 7nm is dubious due to eSRAM, not to mention that DDR3 is expensive these days.

which is currently suposed to be better, and in which measurment metrics, the ps5 or the xbox-next?

Let's be frank here.
  • Both have Zen 2, NAVI and HW-based Ray Tracing.
  • Both will probably feature the same amount of RAM.
  • Both will feature SSDs.
What this means is that multiplat games will again suffer less from going to different platforms, just like on PS4/One. There won't be a repeat of the PS3/360 era, which is GREAT.

Probably there will be a few games better on this or that platform, but that's part of the game.

Anyway those platforms being very similar in architecture is great for us.

Just like I said... both consoles have HW RT.

They will end up being like 5% diff in power. lol

That seems to be how things are shaping up. Which is great, IMO. Third party games won't suffer more on one platform, and both systems look to pack a really impressive feature set that's going to really enable new and truly next-gen experiences.

Basically confirming that XBII and PS5 is Next Gen RDNA. Great! Those consoles will actually release with current technology and not old stuff like PS4 and One. :messenger_grinning:
Not exactly.

AnandTech is supposing the RT on PS4 and Nextxbox is custom made and different from next RDNA's Ray-tracing.

How do you put 64CUs in a console form at 200W when 40CUs is already over that?

The 40CU card is clocked very high (1750-1900 Mhz) likely way past its perf/watt sweet spot
A 64CU card can be clocked lower and achieve greater perf/watt. 7nm yields can also factor in higher than needed voltages

Software = Actual GCN and RDNA
Hardware = Next-gen RDNA
Cloud = ???



The more we learn the more I think that this first gen RDNA was supposed to be called GCN all along, but they were wary of all the negative connotations that would bring with it, so moved the RDNA branding down one and will call the true "Next Gen" that has been on their roadmaps for years, RDNA second gen.

Navi has a substantial change to the SIMD groupings, but is still pretty GCN-ey. While Next Gen turned "Next Gen RDNA" is the whole banana.
