Yu Suzuki and DS scammed STEAM Shenmue 3 KS backers by giving them a different version of software.

So, Steam backers of Shunmue 3 KS were informed that their copy of the software will not be the same as what they had chosen during the KS campaign and it will be replaced with EGS(Spyware) version.

A lot of Steam users have issued this problem to YS and DS for a refund after both dev and pub failing to honor what they had promised before. Unfortunately for Steam backers, both YS and DS are currently refusing to refund.

I'm hoping for major gaming websites like IGN, Gamespot, and etc to stand up for the victims by releasing the articles about this shady practice of YS and the gang.

Don't count on it. Yu is a golden child of gaming. Id be surprised if even a couple game sites decide to step up and trash their decision.

Consider this issue: Ignored.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
There was supposed to be a DRM-free version, too, but I'm guessing that's not happening now. I guess the only thing one can do at this point is report it to Kickstarter. Super cool thing to do after people backed it and waited 4 years.

I agree that this is messed up, but you're overreacting a little bit too much with the word choice OP. Makes people take what you say less seriously. Anyway, my hope is that this is timed exclusive and it will be on Steam later. I'll be waiting for that release. It's another delay to me.

I remember pledging for a copy years ago but I don't remember if it was Steam or PS4. Just send me whatever I don't care at this point. I have Epic and Steam installed anyway. In fact, I just bought Far Cry Primal, Watch Dogs 2 and Ghost Recon for 5$ on Epic. Thanks Tim 😁

I don't understand, so like, people can't install Epic Games Store? What's the deal? I'm not understanding any of this. Sorry, I'm just not a virgin anymore to understand the issue here.
Short answer. You had ordered and paid for a chicken topping pizza but received a turd topping pizza. It's just a pizza but it's definitely not what you had ordered and as a customer, you deserved to get a refund.

It's not just a launcher. It's a launcher from a company owned by the Chinese government.

Is it shocking that some people might have problems with that?

Imagine the hysteria there would be if it was a Russian company, instead of Chinese? But Russia is a has been power, China is not.

Console fanboyism is strong on pc now, first Nintendo vs Sega, consoles with different library's, then Xbox vs playstation, consoles with few exclusives, and now steam vs epic, 2 different launchers....
Imagine paid this shite on Linux because of the Steam launcher and then they just sending you a different version of the software that doesn't work and forcing you to buy windows O/S in order to launch that launcher.

This is not about fanboy wars, it's just about false advertising. People not getting what they had paid for.

If a game was promised on GOG but then got bait and switched into Epic exclusive, people would still be pissed. False equivalence.

OK, except in this case you're getting the same pizza. It's like buying metrosexual clothing from a Nordstrom, but guess what? You can find the exact same metrosexual brand at Ross. One is a high end store and the other isn't, but you're buying the same shit. This is as stupid when people bitched about Sony not supporting Linux OS on the PS3. Like fuck outta here, it's Linux, no one gives a fuck or knows programming to install VLC because you need to write 600 lines of code to install shit on Linux.

Arguing with epic defenders or "it's just another launcher"-people doesn't really do much. They don't understand what Steam has over the EGS right now. They also don't understand that some people simply don't want to support what Epic is doing, or hate splitting up their games library over different stores.

Anyways, the fact that they even refuse to offer a refund is most likely illegal, at least in the EU and it's also against Kickstarters policies.
Is a creator legally obligated to fulfill the promises of their project?
Yes. Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their project or refund any backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill. (This is what creators see before they launch.) We crafted these terms to create a legal requirement for creators to follow through on their projects, and to give backers a recourse if they don't. We hope that backers will consider using this provision only in cases where they feel that a creator has not made a good faith effort to complete the project and fulfill.
Did it say initially it would come to Steam?
Yes. They even have it on their "System Requirements" information in one of the Kickstarter posts from a week ago
Minimum:
OS: Windows 7x64, Windows 8x64, Windows 10x64 (64-bit OS Required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 (3.40 GHz) or better; Quad-core or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti or better (DirectX 11 card & VRAM 2GB Required)
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband internet connection
Storage: 100 GB available space
Sound card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
Additional Info: Requires Steam Client to activate.
*Game is currently in development so system requirements may change without notice. We thank you for your understanding.

Ok that's a good news for steam backers

This is like backing a game for PS4 and getting a XB copy instead
Its false advertisement

Right... Except if you own both systems, it's like oh well, I'll play it on this system instead. However, in this situation, it's like me bitching about why Halo isn't on Playstation because I prefer the Playstation instead.

I bought a laptop from Newegg(antonline) for a 2070 and the HP omen was actually a 2070 Max-Q version. I returned that bitch so fast. They tried to dock me a 15% fee and I said hell no. By your logic, I should've kept the Max-Q version since it's still a laptop even tho its inferior.

No I get it, except I don't understand when it comes to whiny customers. Like the typical soccer mom that doesn't bother reading the back of the receipt for the stores return policy but then has a meltdown in the store. I'd understand it being a justified claim of it being false advertisement if they claimed it was a Shenmue sequel and released a bunch of images and trailer, but when you got the game, it was Bejeweled or some shit.

So I have many Bangladeshi friends, great people. Love them. However, English is something they struggle with. Not mad at you for not understanding English, and specifically my point and making up a story about a Newegg purchase, then attaching that to my logic. It's all good, try re-reading my examples I posted here and if you still struggle with English, I can get some of my Bangladeshi friends to translate it for you.

I sure as hell didn't make up the newegg story. It's best that you don't use analogies if you don't know how to.

YS Net and DS still need to learn a lot from Sony about how to making an exclusive deal without making their fanbase angry .

Don't announce the possible platform if you still not sure and just give them refund is you did it wrong before.

Calling it a scam is a bit far fetched. I mean I can understand if you prefer Steam over EGS, but this is not comparable to, e.g. switching from GOG to either, which would severely limit the player rights. You should also consider that from the list you posted, only few points are even relevant to a single player only game you get via DL code.

"When a project is successfully funded, the creator must complete the project and fulfill each reward. Once a creator has done so, they’ve satisfied their obligation to their backers.

Throughout the process, creators owe their backers a high standard of effort, honest communication, and a dedication to bringing the project to life. At the same time, backers must understand that when they back a project, they’re helping to create something new — not ordering something that already exists. There may be changes or delays, and there’s a chance something could happen that prevents the creator from being able to finish the project as promised."

Nowhere could I find Steam in their rewards list.

But we are still getting the game tho? Just the redemption code will look different. Maybe it will be a chinese code since Epic are chinese spies according to Steam fans.

I think it's just internet culture circa 2019. Everything has to be ramped up to 10 to get maximum attention. The more hyperbolic the better. Speaking of drama queens:

"Betrayal!" :pie_eyeroll:

If it was announced that the game was no longer coming out on PS4 and was coming out on Xbox instead then I could understand the outrage, because then you would actually have to buy new hardware. But with this, you merely have to download a new launcher.

Console fanboyism is strong on pc now, first Nintendo vs Sega, consoles with different library's, then Xbox vs playstation, consoles with few exclusives, and now steam vs epic, 2 different launchers....

PC storefront fanboyism has to be the saddest of all:

8/16/32-bit era fanboyism - mostly unique hardware, each with a largely unique library of games. Still a little immature, but at least the fanboyism had some substance to it.
Xbox 360/PS3 fanboyism - different hardware, but mainly ports of the same games using the same engines. Fanboyism beginning to look very silly
Xbox One/PS4 fanboyism - pretty much identical hardware with 95% identical games. All but the most dedicated fanboys give up on the whole thing.
PC storefront fanboyism - literally the same games on the same hardware but with a different launcher. A new low for fanboyism.

Are you sure, all I read in another forum is : PC download / PC Physical tier, nothing about Steam. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Although the time when S3 begin to kickstart the only possible store is only STEAM and GOG so it's fair to assume PC = STEAM/GOG.
