If you had the chance to travel 500 years into the future, would you take it?

Ask a bunch of nerds if they would - in theory - travel through time and watch them have the most ridiculous discussions about everything that might go wrong. I'll just add mine: Considering (according to "experts") we're about to face the apocalypse due to global warming, I would at least ask for a machine that is resistant to the elements, just in case I'd end up in a planet size oven.

Jokes aside, if I had the opportunity to do it without getting killed by any environmental or social hazards, I totally would. 500 years is such a long time for us humans, just imagine where we'd be by then. If we haven't been cooked in a planet sized oven before, of course.

Assuming the transfer doesn't kill you as a result of what you land in/on/near, i think i would.
I don't think we would change enough in that time that the Earth wouldn't be much different to live on. I mean, if we jumped back 500 years, multiple times, it would be a while before you couldn't really survive an hour.

And if it kills me, I'll take the secrets of the future to my grave.

Say someone has a machine. Some kind of 'time machine'. They can offer you the chance to travel to the same spot you are in, but 500 years in the future. You get 1 hour there before you are returned. However, you have no idea what the world will be like and will only find out once you get there. And if you die there, you are dead for good. Would you do it?
It's a no brainer if you wait until you are old and dying. Go 500 years into the future, maybe they can reverse aging or fix your diseases. If not, hit the button go another 500 years into the future until they can turn you into a cyborg.

So I don't get stuck there forever, that sounds like a nice deal. I would say no if I wouldn't be able to see friends and family again or return to the time I actually belong to.

I wouldn't be too surprised if there is no world 500 years in the future. That being said it is tempting to see if humanity still stands and what "will" happen.

C*nth, I have to ask. Is this hypothetical future set in stone or can I go back and "change fate". And if I can prevent something from happening, would that mean that the current timeline is shifted to a completely different state (ex. new people are born and are erased) or is a separate timeline created from this so no damage is done?

I would take it just to see if my basement shrine to AOC still exists.

(Also to see if they ever found the bodies)

Sauce are the laws of physics. Just because you're moving super fast, doesn't mean you are not subject to galactic gravitational forces. This is why photons still orbit our galactic center, despite moving at the speed of light.
Time travel is all within the laws of physics?

'Time travel' to the future due to time dilation is 100% proven and within the bounds of known laws, yes. In fact it is directly observable in our space based navigational systems. Satellites travel to the future constantly and the clocks onboard have to be adjusted regularly due to slowing down relative to clocks on earth.

Traveling to the past imo is impossible as it would break all known laws. There is one proposed way to do it but it involves the impossibility of leaving a black holes event horizon. Thus impossible.

Navigational system positioning and calculations aren't equatable with a person time traveling.

Then h-ll yeah! First, I'll invest in profitable ventures from the future. Then I'll use that revenue to gain political power. With my money, power, and knowledge of possible future technologies I will try to build a nation, perhaps an artificial island or something. It shall be a catholic country and we will be ahead of everyone technologically. We monopolize the market on the advanced technology I brought with me. I will then use my economic influence on the world to attempt subtle cultural shifts towards a more peaceful future. Then I shall take over the world!

Realistically I would just try to make changes that benefit mankind instead of aspiring for global domination, though that might be cool.
