Sega now considers Yakuza a multi-platform series

Sega now considers it a multi-platform series, though it's not ready to make any firm announcements about future games.

Sega's executive vice president of publishing, John Clark explains:
"To make a quality PC port is the key,"
"It's in the mindset of [Sega] Japan and Europe now, and the US, to think of it as a multi-format offering. That's not saying everything's going to be multi-format, but we're able now to consider that data."

What's not yet been determined is how future Yakuza instalments will be released. All three PC ports have launched well after their PS4 counterparts, but that's not been the case with all of Sega's Japanese ports and multi-platform launches. Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Shining Resonance Refrain both had simultaneous launches, for instance.

"With those two titles, we now have the ability to evaluate a multi-format simultaneous launch against more of a phased process that we see with Yakuza. That'll be evaluated and the best way to launch titles will result from that."

Yakuza will do well on PC/Xbox. Refrain doesn't scream PC to be honest. If they bring out Judgement to PC/Xbox, that'd be a good win for Sega.

All SEGA needs to do at this point is announce PC ports of Yakuza 3-6, and a PC port of Future Tone, and I will buy all of them.

Ever since Bayonetta and Vanquish's release, I've been buying and playing their PC ports (Excluding their Total War or Warhammer games) to show my support. Only one that I really haven't picked up on Steam yet is Valkyria 4.

they need to fix the new engine for pc ports. kiwami 2 was a terrible port and one guy made a mod fixing almost every problem with the port. Its all over the steam community page if anyone wants to see. Let's hope Y6 on PC its a bit better that this.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 ran at 60FPS and high settings at 1080p without any issues on my GTX 1060 on launch day. It's not as great as 0 and Kiwami, which ran at 144FPS without issues, but Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PC is still miles better than the PS4 version running on a PS4 Pro. I have no clue what you're going on about.

The only issue that I can really think of is memory leaks, like what Kaldaien was talking about, but I never had any issues with that after playing eight hours of Kiwami 2 straight.

SEGA has been fixing bugs with the game, and those will probably transfer over to Yakuza 6 and Judgement when those come to PC, similarly to how Yakuza 0 and Kiwami shares the same codebase.

but you have already seen this if you know the name kaldaien.
for me the game had awful AA and DOF. they only released the beta patch because of kaldaien

lmao every time something like this comes up and people shout "where's my Xbox port of [niche Japanese title]?!"

Sorry guys, you bought the wrong system. Better luck next time. Enjoy Halo.

I really hope that they port the PS4 versions of Yakuza 3 and Yakuza 4 to the PC next. I honestly kind of slept on this series in its initial run. But when Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 came to PC, I instantly bought them all, and I have been enjoying playing through each game in the series canonically.

I doubt it.
If it's on PC, it's just a small hop to make it available on Game Pass.
Clearly someone forgot that Refrain was a multiplat on launch and was literally on every current-gen platform aside from mobile devices.
Clearly some edgy asshole didn't read the OP and that Sega wanted "To make a quality PC port.." and Refrain is hardly the quality port that they should have chose to do so.

Yakuza wouldn't do well on XBOX as many of you think. Yakuza didn't even do well for Nintendo in their home turf of Japan. There's a reason many games sell 4:1 on PS4 and I hate to say it but I can only imagine how many more copies you'd sell of Yakuza on PlayStation than XBOX. Binary Domain again sold massively on PS3, did very poorly on 360. I use this example because it's the same studio with a broader audience for the IP. BD sold only 20,000 in North America. They sold over 3 times as much in Japan on PS3 alone. A port to 360 wasn't even worth the money because the game barely sold for the platform. Yet it did sold far better on PC than XBOX despite launching 2 months later.

C'mon, releasing a PS2 bundle port on a flop console like WiiU isn't gonna produce magic numbers. that game even had been released one year before on PS3. Also, performance is godawful, it's like they're not even trying to sell anything with such a poor port.

Yes, FXAA and SMAA were the only options until the supersampling option got added to the anti-aliasing options. I'd say that the game is missing a TemporalAA implementation in that regards as well.

But there was more people who were complaining about the forced DOF aside from Kaldaien. They would have patched an option in regardless. They aren't Square Enix after all.

That’s old news. Now Yakuza’s popularity got rocket launched to space. I played Yakuza long time ago but after Yakuza 0, the game got so so so much popular and people went and played it. Can’t compare Yakuza now to Yakuza days before 0. Back in the days nobody talked about Yakuza like they’re doing today

Excellent! I hope this will eventually propagate to all of Sega's IPs. And maybe Atlus will look at this and drag themselves to the current century. Third-party stuff should be multi-platform.

Yet Xbox gets the Shenmue collection, Valkyria Chronicles 4, amongst other things. The director even went and said he was interested in how it would do on the Xbox and wants as many gamers as possible to play the series. He was less enthusiastic about Nintendo’s platform but I blame it on the Wii U and not getting localized more than anything else. I think it would perform well on both platforms.

Personally I already have 0 on the PS4 Pro but would gladly take the series to my Xbox One x console if they ever port.

I don’t see the series making it to the Xbox One though, for whatever reason Sega has. I could see it make the stop next gen though.

I doubt it.

Could you elaborate on why?
