CD Projekt Red explains Transgender Ad in Cyberpunk 2077

Transgender?
And here i thought it was some kind of weird Futanari Porn Ad.
As long as they don't fuck up the story i don't care either way.
And it certainly makes sense in the Cyberpunk context.
If you could get cybertransplants people would get additional dicks as their first new appendages for sure.

I wonder if you can have sex in this game. Will that trigger people too?
Of course there will be sex in this game ;) CDPR made it one of their first 100% confirmed things about the game - some of it will be just a casual fling, while others are more in-depth, like the Witcher romances.

Also some love are interests are gay, some are straight, some bi. In my opinion it's good that it's not "everyone available to anyone" approach that's been taken by some other games.

I'm sure men and cis women will be sexualised too, you could argue it's a good thing that trans people are included now as well, in 2077 they're seen as no different and just as good to sell future Cola. You could call that progress.

being sexualized is part of being normalized in a consumer culture. if trans people want to be part of normal consumer culture they will have to take on the burdens the rest of us deal with. the exploitation of cis women & men in media has long been a fact. the "male gaze" as a cinema term was coined 40+ years ago by 70s feminists. it is a fact of mundane consumer culture. to act as if it is hate speech is a bit far IMO.

tbh i am confused because i thought part of trans lifestyle was about drag culture and flaunting your sexuality in public? not saying everyone is an extrovert but clearly going by the mainstream media image of drag culture, it is all about shock, all about hyper sexual futurism. that seems to be the intention with this in-game ad, no? this is all during a month of Gay Pride where people walk the streets dressed in highly sexualized costumes in a literal month-long parade about how they like to have sex. this is not CDPR's fault for making a sexual ad. you may as well blame them for causing gun violence because they are including shooting in this game.

Mind you, this is over a single picture from a single screenshot from a single section of the game.

If you actually think that games can be art with these social rejects attempting to run the show, I have a book to sell you.

Another online publication joins the growing legion of those who do not know what a phobia is and are proud of their ignorance, enough to have it on display.
It's alright.
One can always cover up one's ignorance with the word deeply.

...the author of this article is literally a trans fetishist who writes about monster porn.

"From monster girls to yaoi, these are the best adult Patreons to follow"

"Patreon is removing erotic hypnosis content. It’s a dangerous sign for porn. Other kink artists are also at risk."

"Cyberpunk hookups and lesbian sex: The best trans porn for queer trans women"

Monster girls, femdoms, and furries: The best adult VR games. Get lost inside a fantasy of your creation."

How does this make any sense?

As the Daily Dot’s Gavia Baker-Whitelaw wrote last July, cyberpunk’s mainstream creators struggle with “nuanced depictions of trans identity” because they’re more interested in “telling formulaic stories from conservative viewpoints.” In her piece, she calls for radical inclusion in the genre by centering the punky, DIY trans creators working in the indie world. And for his August 2018 essay “Hood Cyberpunk,” Unwinnable games critic Yussef Cole pointed out how privileged white writers tend to “build their visions of the future by imaginatively slumming in the present” so they can “live out their fantasies of unrestrained frontierism” without pushing for any real change.

You'd almost forget they only make up around .6% of the population. Transhumanism and being transgender isn't the same thing, even though it seems like they like to the link the two up.

I can't figure why they're upset. Isn't this exactly the gender-obliterated future of a world populated entirely by women with penises that they crave? And with all 16 flavors you'd love to mix!

Indeed. I'm perplexed as to why the upset tbh. You want representation, you get it then 'Reeee!!!!!!!' about it. Cyberpunk is a setting wherein people have undergone all manner of surgeries and adjustments, the idea that some people are going to take that in different ways makes perfect sense.

I don't see why they should explain anything. I don't really see how this shows oversexualization as bad either, so kinda weird attempt at saving themselves from controversy. Just make the setting as faithful as it can be, make the player interpret it. Basically what I said in the other thread:

Is this a big surprise? Transhumanism, hyper violence, hypersexualization and breaking conformity is a big thing about sci-fi. This is all pretty non-shocking to me and is kind of the thing I expect when it comes to the Cyberpunk game. Technology, the freedom it brings and debauchery should definitely be present. There should be things there to trigger all kinds of people, wherever they are on the political spectrum.

People shouldn't look for fiction to validate themselves or their world view, sometimes they do, but generally they are supposed to present something in itself, a hypothetical, regardless of whether you like that construction or not. Game will trigger some people, but those will generally be a small minority, who'll likely buy it anyways after the outrage subsists. The people going "oh no trans people in a Cyberpunk setting!", the people "omg objectification and hypersexualization in a Cyberpunk setting!". These people that only seek a reality where everything is under their control and safe, where they'll only get a black and white view of things, where they only will affirm their convictions, will have to face multiple things they don't like. Good fiction is unafraid of stepping on people's shoes, unafraid of being controversial, unafraid of the morality police knocking it down. The setting is something in itself.

This is the type of person who is a furry and DOES want to have sex with animals. And the fact that she write about fucking kids is...well, it says a lot.

Edit: Got my shit fucked up. Yaoi is different. facepalm.

The future the game depicts is dark, bleak and depressing. It takes a lot of modern day problems and puts them on steroids. Corporate greed and government corruptions are big problems today, but in this world, it is on another level. And it makes for compelling gameplay of course. The game looks to be full of wacky deplorable characters who use technology in the most obscene ways to fashion themselves closer to their own agendas. I don't think that in a Transhumanist world that people are even concerned about being male or female. Those are merely organic starter packs, whereas everything can be enhanced and added or modified as a feature. I don't think the game looks at sexuality, sexual orientation or self in a way that we would understand today.

It looks like a nihilistic psychotic world where people have become detached from their own humanity and have lost themselves to the benefits of technology. Like most sci-fi, there are social and political commentary on todays problems, but increased hundred told in consequences. Today we lose our social relationships as we distance ourselves with technology. Tomorrow we lose ourselves because we merge with technology and stop being ourselves leaving out human emotion, thought and empathy.

There was no need for an explanation in the first place.

Excusatio non petita.
Die excusatio was petita because of that stupid article from RPS. These individuals have a lot of influence and could undermine the success of the game if they start some kind of campaign against it. After all, the world of Cyberpunk is a radicalised version of what we are already experiencing right now.

Explaining a piece of world building kind of destroys the meaning behind it and makes things a little less fun from a personal interpretation point of view. I hope they don't feel the need to explain every 'uncomfortable' detail of a not so nice cyberpunk world to these overly sensitive controversy merchants.

They absolutely don't, no matter how hard they scream.
I hope you are right. When it comes to throw shit at somebody/something they are very well organized. As I mentioned elsewhere, they managed to push Odyssey's team to change the ending of their DLCs, just to make an example...

It seems to me Marcin Iwisnki has the right attitude. He strikes me as having low tolerance for thugs. He looks like he has a middle finger ready to pop at any time.

Of couse, it's a public company. There are shareholders to appease. But Marcin and Adam do seem to be at the helm. The virtues required to make a game like CP2077 might also be the the virtures required to stand up to these hordes.

Because Odyssey's devs are idiots. Those guys would have kept screaming and bought the game anyway (those who did - because I'm pretty sure most of them just cried and then didn't even buy the game after the change). It's also true when the opposite happens: gamers have shown time and again to have absolutely no restraint. That's why the industry is so fucked up and anti consumer right now.

Looking forward to this game not unlike many of us on here. I expect CDPR to tell the story they want to tell independent of folks being outraged or triggered.

I think it's hilarious that a big cybernetic dick has triggered fools all over the interwebs. I was going to play a game this weekend where every time I read something about some snowflake getting triggered over this, I'd take a shot of Jack 27, but I'd be piss drunk by noon.
