And, thanks to AMD's *obscene* reveal prices for the 5700 and 5700XT (each with a lousy sub-1080TI performance, so they make for *terrible* upgrade options at any price), Nvidia has chosen to massively increase the launch prices of the *super* variants.
Here's what's going on, guys. AMD wants you to move up two grades (pricewise) and buy the killer 12-core Zen2 CPU. So the 'value' Zen2 is also the most expensive one.
Meanwhile, Nvidia wants you to move up two price grades and buy a 2080TI (2080 super) class GPU- cos now almost the most expensive 'affordable' Nvidia GPU will be the 'value' one.
Pay less and you end up with a laughable joke of a GPU when the new consoles arrive. So pay less, and you only have, at most, one happy year of ownership before consoles *humiliate* you. But pay at the new low-high end (600-800 dollars), and at least you can probably use that card across 3 years and still feel happy about owning it.
PS there *is* going to be a price war between AMD and Nvidia new and old GPU stock that will consistantly batter down prices from now til Nvidia's Samsung 7nm chips hit next year. AMD's Navi will be *much* cheaper within two months. Turing and Pascal bargains from the older lines will keep appearing at ever lower prices. GPUs are currently overpriced by a factor of greater than *twice*, and memory prices have cratered acroos the last six months.
But Nvidia will do its best to defend the price of 1080TI+ class performance, where AMD does not compete. People like myself, who only think an upgrade of at least 1080TI level is worth while, are totally screwed. A one-third bigger navi part would have hit this easily, without having to be run well beyond its happy limits. But AMD has promised Sony and MS to hold back much better navi parts til *after* the new consoles hit, so the new consoles can have their moment of glory.
