PSVR2 needs to launch with Astro Bot 2

While I had previously played the game and thought it was great, only recently I finished all the worlds in Astro Bot.

Suffice to say it's an amazing experience, top to bottom, while also being the best game making use of DS4 features.

Sony's Japan Studio really created a special thing here, which makes me believe that Astro Bot 2 needs to happen, and as a launch PSVR2 title.

Platformers are a videogame genre that beg for VR, and honestly Astro Bot proved that it can work pretty damn well in it.

Considering Nintendo is still having it's first baby steps on VR, Sony should capitalize on the opportunity, because let's be honest, the day we get a Super Mario VR, well, it will be a VR kit seller for Nintendo, hands down.

The main idea I got from Astro Bot is that it didn't get a good push marketing wise, flying under the radar for many people, even for people who own a PSVR, which is clearly a shame.

So Sony, take a step down from rail shooters, and make this happen. Please?

What do you guys think? Could Astro Bot 2 be a PSVR2 seller?

I really think Sony should pump more resources into Team Asobi, if they haven't already. They could be a strong force in Sony's drive to make VR popular but they're gonna need the manpower. You're going to want them pushing out VR experiences frequently. PSVR needs quantity just as bad as it needs quality.

That's a good idea, but what would really drive sales is an X-wing game in the vein of Rogue Squardon. If you've played the battlefront VR mission psvr you know how ridiculous the potential is. And make it coop.

Do you ever play a game that just constantly throws new and interesting mechanics at you all the way through the game? Or when you played a game you were excited to get to each boss because they were interesting and memorable? Astrobot has that.

When you normally play a platformer you already know how it's going to play, you have seen all the mechanics before on other platformers over the years, well Astrobot kinda adds to that. It surprises you with little touches in the platformer genre that you haven't really played before due to the nature of VR. I don't want to say more due to spoilers.

It has a charm that made me fall in love with it which is strange because looking at it on a flat screen it looks generic but I was constantly smiling through playing Astrobot and im a jaded 40+ year old gamer.

Collecting all the robots felt like fun not a chore in comparison to other games which in turn unlocks some harder challenge levels which is good because the main game is pretty easy, that doesn't detract from it though.

The games oozes cuteness and charm and its hard not to fall in love with it. This is a game that has done everything well, gameplay, art, music, which makes it a better game over all.

Everytime I turned it on and heard that main screen music it made me happy. I kinda don't want them to make an Astrobot 2 (although I feel its inevitable) they nailed on on the first one and I can't see how they could improve. More of the same would be nice I suppose but I don't think I will get that sense on wonder I felt with the first.

That's my take on the Astrobot, I hope that sheds a little light into why people are praising the game.

True but I honestly dont see either Disney or EA investing the resources.

You're 100% right. That last boss, for instances, put a huge smile on my face. Amazingly well crafted considering everything you experienced before in the game.

Even the credits are goddamn amazing in this game lol.

In my opinion they could easily improve in Astro Bot 2, specially because it would be made on a more upgraded tech.

I just hope for a massive resolution boost, better screen, manual 3d focus slider, the software version is meh

Let's be honest psvr looks meh overall, but yet it's still amazing, games like blood and truth and firewall shows it's the next step for me

I was thinking about creating this very topic. I never thought any game would ever beat the sense of awe and wonderment I felt as a kid playing Mario 64 for the first time but Astro Bot was able to do it. Making Astro Bot 2 a PSVR 2 launch title would force me to get one right away probably.

And it's a game most people will never play. Only about 5 million psvrs. They just see it on YT and think it looks like a normal platformer, not knowing how extraordinary it is inside the headset.

That is such a huge shame for the people who would adore this game but never get the chance to experience it in full.

Boss Mog nailed it when he says it gives you the feeling of wonderment you had as a kid. I have constantly been chasing that feeling ever since I bought my first VR and probably spent way more money on VR games than I do on normal games recently just because I want to experience them in VR.

Exactly. From the outside it just looks like a normal platformer but it isn't.

I honestly can't wait for my nephew to have age a little more (he is still 2 years old) so I can see his reaction on playing Astro Bot.

I'm 28 years old and felt like a little kid inside an amazing world/environtment, so his reaction should be amazing to watch.

It needs to launch with full support for GT7.
Lack of proper support for GTS was one of key mistakes of PSVR.

Can someone explain to a non ps vr users (but used be on a pc) what is so great about Astro bot?
-Aesthetically pleasing, makes you be at peace.
-Makes you happy
-Fills you with joy
-Makes you go up in the Sepphira
-Pinpoints all your chakras
-Elevates your soul to another existential plane

-Expertly designed levels with lots of secret passages, and things to discover
-Animations are a delight. Nintendo / Pixar wise
-Great graphics without sacrificing performance
-Lots of playground scenarios with toy like mechanics using the sixaxis controller and the touch trackkpad.
-Lots of content
(As an example in the world select scene you see the character floating, if you move your virtual controller, you can tumble him or punch him away and he reacts accordingly.)
-Feels like going to Disneyland or Adventure world for the first time.

I just love this kind of details in games, but if youre another kind of player then none of teh baove will be of importance.

Basically, when you play this game is like playing Super Mario 64 for the first time back in the day. Even more than that. It's like being a child all over again. They have nailed perfectly that "x factor" that makes you feel great from the very first moment you pick up the controller. To be more specific:

- Amazing upbeat music

- Great character animations. Cuteness overload

- The characters and levels ooze life. They acknowledge your existence inside the world in a myriad different ways.

- Imaginative world levels, great boss fights

- surprises and new mechanics with each passing level.

This is quite possibly the game that has made me say "OH MY GOD" more times in my life. Just like that. And you can tell pretty much everybody thinks the same when you see the amount of threads people start after playing this for the first time. It's a groundbreaking experience.

As for the OP question, needless to say that YES. PSVR 2 and Astro Bot 2 (with coop, and bigger worlds) is an absolute MUST. And I think Sony is pretty aware of that too. A new saga is born.
