Ariel cast in live action Little Mermaid Movie

Really?
“clear and delicate as a rose petal”with “eyes as blue as the deepest sea”
They also had a problem with Ariel's red hair but the creator was insistent on it.
So this girl doesn't have clear and delicate skin? I mean, I think that's a fair approximation of her skin. Good thing they have color contacts to get the deep blue!

I'll give the girl the benefit of the doubt, she may pull a Rihanna.

But I'm not seeing it
I don't even think the race thing is a problem, if were 2008 and Rihanna was casted I be like.
Yeah, okay
It's just bad casting

oh really?

Ok I’ll take the L on that one. I’m right about the others.

I also wanted to point out that Aladdin should have made a billion at the BO easily. It was far more popular than Jungle Book and Beauty and the beast and yet it is pulling in less than that. While I don’t think it’s because of SJW reasons, I do think that people are already getting tired of Disney remakes. And putting 2 in one season was a mistake. They need to give these movies room to improve and breath a bit. After Lion King, I think we’ll see a drop in attendance.

Was about to say she looks like a fish.Fuck whoever thought that making Ariel black was a good idea.
Nothing really wrong with her being Black, they just got the wrong person.
I mean if ya gonna do it do it right

I hope Disney has a plan to market to just blacks and progressives. Because I have a feeling a lot of white people are going to sit this one out.

In the end, it's a business decision. They're betting that a black lead will grow, not shrink the audience.

We'll see how much longer PC culture sells.

This casting is fine. Disney will make it work because they can make anything work. The writing of a character is what's important.

My biggest issue with the whole "Ariel controversy" is that I...don't see the outrage. All over social media I see a ton of posts referencing people being unhappy with the casting. In fact, the ONLY posts I see are reactions to outrage rather than actual outrage over the casting itself.

I've not ONCE seen a person who is actually unhappy with this casting. Am I just lucky, or is it possible that some of this controversy is manufactured?

So you think only reading posts of people who agree with you equals being lucky?

Imagine they made a movie about Pikachu, then they reveal a green Pikachu. You grew up with the yellow one, you wanted that one. You will be disappointed.

This has nothing to do with race or people of color and opportunities - it's just about "she doesn't look the Ariel people know and grew up with".

If they make a Hunch Back of Notre Dame, I can already predict what Esmeralda will look like:

Shhh.
Do not question the narrative.

Honestly I just thought it was weird that I never saw anyone actually upset about it. Not a one. I've only seen people reacting to other people being upset.

I understand the disappointment, but the disappointed folks seem like they're in the minority.

As for me, I'd actually be okay with a green Pikachu. Like, if in Detective Pikachu he was slightly green, I'd think that's maybe a bit weird but I wouldn't be outraged over it. I've been exposed to yellow Pikachu for over two decades.

OK, that's a good reply.

Most people I know are in the disappointed side, but not at the casting itself, nor the actress, just because the reason for Disney to do this is to get woke points.

Some were outraged enough to create a "Make Ariel White Again" FB page... I posted a screenshot of it a couple pages back.

That said... I don't have a problem with Halle being the Ariel. But I'd be fine with a young looking actor like Ariana Grande in the role as well. Both her and Halle have beautiful voices and can act.

These are retarded people.

At the end of the day, it's their movie, and the casting is their choice.

Billy Dee Williams was Harvey Dent, Halle Barry Catwoman.

We also had Bane go from hispanic to white Tom Hardy.
I wanted to see Billy Dee Williams take on Two Face.
I imagine one half would have been “by the book” DA, and the other would be smooth “Colt 45” Billy Dee charming women into robbing banks for him.
But then again, I also wanted to see a Chuck Norris Batman. So what do I know?

Get this man a job as a writer!

She ain't even old enough to remember when the original was released. Almost 40 lol
But she is too old yeah
In fact everyone I posted is too old.
But they look more like Ariel then Disneys Choice

Man, I'm not feeling the controversy this time. I'm just so tired of all the bickering and arguing and--I presume--false outrage over this kind of thing. Life's too short and I just want to hang with my family and play video games.

Plus, I can't bring myself to care about these pointless live-action Disney sequels. I love the animated originals and I don't plan on seeing a single one of these "updates."

Yeah, okay
It's just bad casting

Is it me or does she actually kind of look like a fish

Edit nm it's been mentioned about 5,000 times.

I think the only thing that is. Iconic about Ariel is her red hair. Draw her in pink or brown does not affect anything whatsoever. I also love people using the statue as a reference, when the statue is brown lol

It’s cool to see a black Ariel, my problem is that a lot of movies are changing characters to black like a check box to market towards them, soon after that runs out they will go with a lot of gay lgbt characters to market towards them.... weird times man.....

Hey good for her, lead role in a Disney movie is sure to be a nice boost to her career :)

I know there can't possibly be actual grown adults that are legitimately upset that an imaginary character from a children's story is a certain skin color.

You would have to be, like, the *biggest* snowflake ever. Like seriously the most fragile bitch ever to be bothered by that lmaooo
