Ariel cast in live action Little Mermaid Movie

Tell me more about authentic mermaids :D

Man I had no idea adults took this shit so seriously :O
How many times are we going to see copy-paste hot-take flybys in this thread?

Mocking people's opinions and being dismissive isn't the same as addressing them.
Being a semantic or grammar pedant is demonstrating just how sincere your level of engagement is.

It doesn't make sense to change the race of an existing character. Appearance is an important part of a character. There are both white and black mermaids in Disney's movies. Ariel is a white, red-haired, blue-eyed mermaid. Anything else isn't Ariel.

Lifeline Expedition is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 by Briton David Pott.[1] The group believes white people must apologize for the Atlantic slave trade, and that forgiveness can be granted by black people from areas that were involved in it.[2]
It brings together teams of Africans, descendants of enslaved Africans and white people from the three former corners of the slave triangle and over a period of seven years has visited many significant slavery sites around the Atlantic world. Controversy has emerged over the fact that white people, including children, on the teams wore replica yokes and chains to express apology for the role of whites in the slave trade.[3][4]

When Disney changes Ariel’s race to pander to identity ideologues: “LOL shut up you bunch of whiny manchildren”

When a white girl wears a kimono to prom: “CULTURAL APPROPRIATION REEEEE”
Mulan should be a black male. Who cares it's just a made up character in a children's story right?

TBH I didn't find McGinger's obvious reference to the N-word funny either. It didn't add much to the conversation to be frank. @Nobody_Important is 100% right in this case.

Like there's fun and jokes and all that, but that word just isn't something to joke about IMO. Not when a disgusting word like that, still has such power behind it.

Ariel is just a stepping stone for her to play a naga in the next WoW movie.

I honestly can't believe how upset people are over a cartoon mermaid. I knew there would be some negative reactions from some people, but this is just silly lol

I swear this thread would be half as many pages long as it is now if every post saying “wow lol can’t believe people are upset over a CARTOOOOON MERMAAAAAAIIID” was removed.

As a huge fan of the original (and the original Hans Christian Andersen tale before that) My issue is not with her. I think she is a beautiful girl and she can probably has an amazing voice. If played straight I think it could be fine, but it will not be.
Disney will not be able to help themselves from empowering Ariel, and adding "sass" I guess is as good a word as any and try to modernize it. I could be wrong but I do not think so. And THAT is my issue. This girl has to deal with some of the most nasty and hateful shit for getting what I am sure she thought was the role of a lifetime and it should not be on her and the hate should not be on her not to mention the really shitty insults that people have felt the need to throw.
Disney fucked up. I love Disney but they fucked up and are going for the easy cash in instead of letting the film swim or sink on its own merits ( <---masterful word weaving) and they should be the ones taking the brunt.

Oh, they are not run by white people, they are run by LEFTists, a whole universe of difference.

Also tell me which role in their movies was best directed for a black person but it went to a white person instead, because I see the opposite happening.
yo, get out of here, wtf is this?

Did they?

Yes. Except for select roles and actors, studios don't already have someone in mind for a part. Even Tom Holland had to audition for Spider-Man. And Halle Bailey isn't yet a widely known actor. Though her and her sister have been well known in certain circles for almost a decade because of their singing on their YouTube channel.
