Some stuff in Hollywood bothers me but I don't think they're very liberal

You think they trumpeted Halle's being chosen as Ariel because execs are SJWs? Dude ... They are banking on the controversy!

If you hold this belief, then you were obviously upset at the changing of many... MANY ... Roles from black/Asian/etc to white.

Because that was the message many black and brown kids and adults got from the constant whitewashing in Hollywood for decades... that our cultures weren't important. And yes, we did make our own movies, but they didn't have the reach of Hollywood.

But whatever...
You saw where I wrote that I think representation is important for all ethnicities right? Ok, so, I'm not sure what the point of this response is.

It was a half thought. I honestly didn't read the whole thing because I admittedly got triggered. My apologies.

I do see where you're coming from... However there's so many movies where the hero/protagonist is white... In fact, they're the majority. That won't change as long as Hollywood stays being controlled by white men and white people are still the majority. As long as there is still representation in movies (for all Americans), then we'll all be alright.

A social media account for a Woke Disney (Freeform, formerly ABC Family) channel all but called complainers about the casting racists:

Hey, Black Panther is also fictional, replace Chadwick with Charlize Theron. xD

Anyway, the real underwater movie to watch out for is AVATAR 2, the masterpiece that will end all blockbusters.

Security was very ineffective and I'm mad one of those bigger guys didn't step in sooner and handle his behind! He kept hitting the women!

I remember the panel about the Major using an alias, but I don't remember anything about the rest of them using aliases. Even so, the fact that most of them use distinctly Japanese names, and for the most part look quite asian, to me is pretty telling. I still remember the way Shirow drew that one white woman in Gits lmao.
Their names (except Motoko and Aramaki) are always written in katakana, and they don't have surnames. Other characters outside of S9 have complete names, Japanese or not.

While shopping last night my gf and I saw this chick with really bright red hair, and she was like "oh just like Ariel!", so I asked if she had seen this news. She hadn't and pulled it up on her phone. She immediately saud "fuck that, I'm not going to see that", she likes most classic Disney stuff. Koreans racist confirmed lol. She goes "how come they don't do this with Mulan or Pocohontas?", I said because they are non-white minorities and you don't race change those characters.

China and Thailand are apparently revolting against the casting too. Will be interesting to see how Japan reacts.

This casting makes no sense culturally speaking since mermaids are an entirely European based myth.

Oh well but I think this actually makes sense financially. The casting gives the movie a lot more hype than it would have if it had a traditional cast. Disney learned their lesson from Dumbo.

Dumbo had a token minority lead too. Dumbo just had other issues going against it. That said, if the new Aladdin has a shot at billion dollars than this remake will do just fine regardless of whatever stunts they pull.

Yeah, this one cracked me up as well. So I guess they lost the Ghost in the Shell argument retroactively?

No, not entirely. There are legends and myths of Mermaids or Mer-people from all over the world. Africa has Mami Wata and Brazil has Iara.

This is why I believe the Bible is correct that we are all one people, descended from one area or region. Everything from our musical instruments to our legends are so similar.

Wow that's interesting. Never heard of those African water spirits before. Well you learn something new everyday.

Too be honest, is there that many young red heads left with acting/singing skills? Those genes are recessive as hell, i doubt theres even a million true red heads on the planet

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the story isn't even based on the original toon movie.

I think that would be great, even amazing, if they made a movie about African water spirits.

But then why call it "The Little Mermaid"? Why not call it what it is? African Water Spirits?
