I've rolled the credits on medium. Skybound temple was by far the hardest (3 hours). The Pinstripe boss was quite touch with the rolling bombs, the final boss I drove ahead of him the whole game and he didn't get one hit in on me.

Hard mode sounds about right then, people know what there signing up for with that, clues in the title lol.

Time to check out the new track :)

Man sorry to keep beating the same drum but man wtf is up with medium difficulty.

Trying to do Sky Temple... took me 3 ******* hours! When you play that long you notice how much the computer cheats. On one race I was in the lead I hit the same person 3 times and they caught back up in seconds each time. Also I was boosting like mad and the computer wasn't and still in the lead most times. One little mistake and I was restarting as I knew it was over... on medium difficulty FFS lol. You have to play close to perfectly, get all 10 apples and then it's down to luck what powerups you get. If you character hasn't got top speed either forgot about it.

The very next level I beat first go as well. It dosnt feel like this game has been play tested properly. I don't know how anyone who isn't a fanboy can genuinly say medium difficulty is "fine" bearing in mind the target demographic and the fact it's 2019. Yes games use to be harder, but that what higher difficulty modes are for now. That's an educated opinion based on 20+ years playing games.

I've seen online people going back to the original and dominating, where they are failing here.

If the Ai wasn't like this it's would be a 9/10 game. Wish I had started on medium but can't recall a game I've ever had to play on easy ever lol.

Don't worry, you will eventually get the hang of it once you become better at drifting and get a faster racer(advanced ones). Also, only on Hard the cpu "cheats" their speed(to the point of not even doing well on curves at all). Its worth noticing that game can give you Mask power-up even when you're at 3rd, 2nd or 1st.

But again, this is not Mario Kart and neither the "casual" type of racing game. CPU will punish you if don't play that well, by storing itens and using them all on you.

Wow, I'm terrible at this game but it's awesome to see some of the runs on YouTube where they just keep boosting.

Looks like I have some practicing to do.

Yeah. It’s way tougher than I thought. I beat adventure mode on Medium without too much trouble. Then I tried hard, and also tried some time trials and man I’ll probably never be able to Plat this game. I can’t get the constant boost chains down.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I just wish it was a bit more accessible as I want the game to be as popular as it can be (that's not to sat I don't want a rock hard mode as well).

Is that just the speed the AI dosnt cheat on on medium? Because it definitely does in other ways (like crash recovery etc). I also found it strange how the AI was not collecting apples on medium (it does very very occassionally, but since I played that one track so much I noticed LOADS of times the Ai would just pass it even though it was always right next to it etc).

On a side note I've noticed there's a few tracks not sorted into a cup mode in local (maybe there's an odd amount at the moment) I hope when all tracks are released or every 4 tracks they add them in as a cup so every race track is selectable from there. I far, far prefer the points system in this mode than having to come first every game.

Lastly... how do I get on top of the pier in the first track to get the letter lol. I'm going to have to investigate all these short cuts :)

Got my friends round for a BBQ today and I've got another 2 controllers inbound for some 4 player split screen fun.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. Done all the CNK tracks and the new Grand Prix track. Will do the older tracks in the coming week.

It's a good exercise for facing online match. The Oxide ghost use all the shortcuts in the game so you learn all possible ways to take advantage.

Yeah, I've beaten all the Oxide ghosts in the original game, so familiar with it all. I started with the CNK tracks first coz those tracks I hadn't played before. Was good fun!

I'm very slowly progressing in the Adventure Mode due to other games from my backlog. ;) The track in the clouds should be renamed to High Road, I don't even remember how many times I've lost a good place because of doing an imperfect drift or risking too much and falling off the track. ;p

Need to get this myself as I loved the original.

Hoping it plays almpst exactly like the old games too.

I mained Crash, Coco, Fake Crash and Ripper Roo.

Do you still chain boosts via pressing when the engine bar goes Red?

Yes, and there are a couple more different boost UIs if your prefer the new stuff. The tyres also turn yellow now to signify when to boost.

Feels good to play but the boost system is too complicated. Kills off a lot of the fun.

You just need practice. Used to think that when I played the ps1 version.
Try start with a begimer racer and aways keep track of your boost meter when you're doing power drift. Helps alot.

I heard someone say the PS4 game drift is inverted or something to the original. Never played the first game but the PS4 drift does feels unnatural.

I have easy and medium save files going. Easy is too easy - boring, you are out in front unchallenged, and medium is solid!

Apart form these two things is feel nice and silky, despite groans of 30fps.

Ps4 is not inverted, but you can invert it on the controls options.

Man, this game's just no fun online. Every race is just the same: You make a tiny mistake by bumping into a wall, or you get blasted with 20 items and you're stuck in 5th or 4th place for the entirety of the race. There always two or three people who can drive perfectly and are so far ahead that there's no chance of catching up to them ever. Most weapons can't even reach them. Most of the time I can't even finish because the race's already over before I get there. I think I have a good grasp on the basic mechanics of the game, though I'm still working on the adventure mode, but the only way to get some wumpa coins to unlock new stuff is by playing online every day for 30 minutes. It's just kinda shit. I can't imagine most people are gonna have fun with this game online. The top 10% players are going to just absolutely destroy everyone else and the other 90% will be fighting for the scraps, not even able to finish...

Not trying to dismiss your criticism against online(which is very true), but you can win Wumpa coins in a normal play.

Yeah, I should've probably typed "a decent amount of wumpa coins." You can literally get 7 times the amount by playing online. Local play earns almost nothing in comparison.

The amount of wumpas received in normal in comparison with online is one of my and my brother main complains about the game. Its kinda like an unfair advantage.

But honestly, you must be gaining way more wumpas losing than we do trying to winning at Hard settings.

To anyone interested, the difficulty has been nerfed within the past couple patches (at least medium has). Having loads more fun with the game now.
I've heard they took off the ability of the AI using clocks and warp orbs on hard difficulty. Not that the game was that hard, but it certainly isn't for your average casual gamer.

Already stopped playing for a long time. They made so much changes to the game that I can't even recognize...
So, I stopped after the second Grand Prix. I've got tired of their model of: Almost 1 month of Grand Prix and just 4 days to rest before everything starts again. Make matters worse when the game has some glaring issues like track checkpoints and people climbing walls to get speed boosts, shortcuts, or cutting more than 1 minute or more of time in the time trials.

Luckily, they changed the characters to be able to swap their engines, making any characters viable to play. Other good thing is that the weekend bonus works for offline races. But I would love to see Wumpa Time (x5 coins) added in the offline too.

Now, to the big monsters in the room. The game asks too much time commitment from the player, that's if you want to get every cosmetic item.

Since I don't have the fear of missing out. I will play at my leisure whenever I want since I have the skill to enjoy racing online.

I'll be honest, I'm being OK with most of the BS Activision created, even those stupids 'coins' with don't make any bloody sense, but I still OK, but when they asked a feedback my answer was 'Never make a remake again with beenox or Activision'.
We are in 2019 and you create a racing game with 'invisible walls'. Even the original CTR don't have invisible wall, I mean, I played almost every kart racing game to date (Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, CTR, Chocobo Racing, Mickey Speedway USA, etc...) and never saw so much incompetence by create a remake with a problem the original game never had. Many updates and still no fix. Don't care if 'Invisible Walls' are a hard problem to fix, take your damn time and fix because is a really annoying problem.
Some people are OK with invisible wall. I find this unacceptable.

I don't think this is a good thing. It completeley destroys the concept of choosing appropriate character for a stage. Theres no meaning in have character statistics(or realeasing different characters) if you can simply change your character attribute. For me this is basically the death of Crash Racing I know.

Also like my brother says, they are so dope to create new content that they forget to even fix the most basic and glaring issues. Invisible walls are a problem since ever and they're still present in the game.

I ocasionally plays the game, but I feel bad for even updating it. The new stages are cool though, apart from the dinosaur one.

I'd play it again but I just know I'm gonna hate that I missed a bunch of stuff and that it takes forever to unlock characters.

The invisible walls are just bullshit. Why can't they just make checkpoints to the tracks and problem solved. It just shows their inexperience with racing games.

The engine swap was a sensible idea. A lot of the good players were just using acceleration or speed characters because they are objectively better. Making pressure over Beenox to not introduce the new characters in the worse categories. If they introduced Spyro as a turn character, I bet that a lot of people wouldn't play with him. The conclusion. I think the problem was introduced the moment the game confirmed online play. It was a needed change. You can keep playing as you used to or choose your favorite character and use your preferred playstyle.

The last Grand Prix will arrive soon, then the game enters what I call the "maintenance" state, with some updates and drops of contents from time to time, few and far between one another. It was good while it lasted, and the studio must be working in their new game too. Actually, the level of support the title received was outstanding, but I really wish they could have tweaked some things like invisible barriers and death zone middle air.

Thanks Beenox for the splendid work!

The support for this game has been amazing. If you add all the free characters and tracks they could have easily sold that as an expansion. Top work.

Finally, I've been waiting as I dont want to play this at 30fps.
The benefit of fast loading times is higher than the fps count to me here. The loadings are what kill my urge of playing long sessions of this game. I can't wait to not wait in the game.
