Well I did it...

I've never understood the need/mentality/desire to put people on ignore. It's words on a screen, scroll past and don't read them, but really, it shouldn't bother anyone enough to become emotionally distressed/wound-up in real life because of words on a screen.

How do you cope in real life when you meet somebody you don't like?

The concept is alien to me.

I would like a neogaf feature to see who has ignored me though. How else will I learn to be a better person?

For me the answer is mostly in your post. We have to put up with assholes and annoying people at work and in public. Why do the same online when I’m not here to debate or really care about others opinions, but rather for the game news and random chatting about games and other shit?

Plus it’s not like my wife and I don’t also take steps in real life to minimize contact with assholes and annoying people. I.e. I picked a career that lets me spend the majority of time working solo (and where colleagues are mostly interesting and like minded ), mostly shop online, keep a small, active social circle of people we enjoy hanging out with etc. The vast majority of people either suck or are boring AF.

There's a few people on here who's posts are consistently dreadful and disruptive, so I have them on ignore. Then they start a shit-fest and I see the reactions, meaning I'm compelled to click the 'Show ignored content' button, just to confirm they're being assholes, which means they rile me anyways. So fuck me, I suppose?

Cunth Cunth is an acquired taste.

I ain't had to use it in a while, but I've put a couple of dumbasses and drama queens on the idiot list. Sometimes I unignore them just to see if they've changed. So far my initial reaction to put em on the list was right in every case. One of em was using phrenology of all things to try to prove whatever idiocy they was spouting. The other one I had a look at was still engaging in pile ons and needy approval seeking bullshit. He's what I'd call a sidebitch. You know, one of them assholes who gets real brave in a crowd. Heh. Anyways, the way I see it. I don't waste my time listening to the crazies and dumbasses who hang out on street corners, and I sure as shit ain't listening to them on the internet.

Yeah, but if always went that way I wouldn’t consider MiyazakiHatesKojima MiyazakiHatesKojima a friend.

We got off on the wrong foot and had I ignored him, I wouldn’t of gotten to see the kind hearted perv he is.

I think a lot more of him now then I used to, and had I ignored him I would have never seen his new side.
I'm so glad that we put the past behind us and moved forward towards a more mutual understanding, Kagey K Kagey K . Having you as a friend on this forum has been a pleasure to say the least :messenger_beermugs:. I learned and grown a lot over the past weeks, albeit still have a few annoying habits that I need to iron out sooner than later :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Regarding your decision to ignore a person, I can understand where you're coming from. I never forgot what you said about the downside of the ignore feature and that stuck with me. However, there are always exceptions in life and in this case, that user you chose to ignore must've been an exception. I hope your experience with GAF now will improve and don't worry, you've got us to make it even better :messenger_ok:

I agree with all of your post and tbh, we sound similar in our view of people. I avoid arseholes at all costs, or did so in the past. But I found that it hurt my world view and objectivity in light of the bullshit we are force fed online and in the media.

Having the opinions of arseholes IRL allowed me to adjust some of my views for the better. I don't mean agreeing with the arseholes, but sometimes how they see their points are the same as how I see mine, but with a different context, if you get me?

TBH. It's easier to deal with arseholes online and get both sides of the story, while not having to interact with arseholes IRL. It's why ignoring people online is so alien to me. I use what they say, study it, ponder about it and make my point from there. However, if I want to ignore them it's as easy as scrolling past, without having the disadvantage of never been exposed to their views.

Each to their own. It's just interesting to hear.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh I totally agree on the importance of exposure to a variety of viewpoints. Outside of clear bigots, I don’t ignore (or avoid in the real world) people with different viewpoints. I’m very liberal but have conservative friends and colleagues, make a point to read opinion pieces in multiple papers from both sides etc.

I’m just talking about ignoring/avoiding assholes, trolls, fanboys, annoying people, bigots etc. Not isolating my social sphere to entirely likeminded people or anything when it comes to political views. I have no tolerance for bigoted or hateful people, and little interest in people who won’t shut up about their religion/faith (having faith is fine, I just don’t want to hear people drone on about it it try to covert me). Otherwise all views are welcome as long as the person is civil and interesting to converse with.

Online I just don’t care to have serious conversations as I do plenty of that in daily life and it’s not why I’m on forums. That’s not cause for ignore listing people, that’s just avoiding topics I don’t care to engage with and no different than not clicking on a thread about a game I don’t care about.

I understand now, I think. You avoid the console wars/trolling back and forth between two people who are always saying a lot but offer nothing to advance the conversation on either side. As if two bots are stuck in a loop? I can dig that.

We best wrap this up then, before we get too serious :messenger_beaming: Stay safe and steer clear of the upcoming Xbox vs PS5 (shampoo vs conditioner) threads :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Nah bro, your bitch ass was whining about too many white people in video games and you ignored me over this post. You da real sidebitch, homie.

"I believe burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that white characters have been the majority."

This is such a ridiculous level of denial it's hard to believe your actually serious, but here's a study you can look at. While it doesn't cover every year it's fairly comprehensive

http://dmitriwilliams.com/VirtualCensusFinal.pdf

Your "list" of best selling games actually highlights my point so thanks for that. It's a pity you didn't bother to look at the games on that list. I don't think you'd be making claims like this " you can see that the majority of franchises do not force players to play a white male (or even a human...) character."

Well, when we look at your list we can see the exact opposite of your claim. There's COD, BF, GTA, FIFA, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Splinter Cell, Star Wars, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, UnCharted, Medal Of Honor, Red Dead Redemption, The Witcher, James Bond, Tony Hawks, God Of War, Rainbow 6, Bioshock, Batman, Gears Of War, Spiderman, Devil May Cry. It goes on and on.

While we're here, here's an old meme that highlights the discussion

Now, you can keep on denying the reality of the situation all you like and I'm sure you will, even in the face of studies, lists and memes that clearly show all the evidence anyone could possibly want, but I'm not going to keep going round in circles over this. Me getting banned again for criticising another crappy AAA is much more worthy of discussion. That's the 2nd time I've been banned for doing that.
That's a terrible list that does very little to support your point.

Games requiring historical accuracy: pre-diversity era COD (there have been plenty of non-whites in the diversity era), Battlefield, Assassin's Creed (also plenty of non-whites), Medal of Honor, Red Dead Redemption.
Pre-existing fictional characters that shouldn't be replaced for spurious ideological reasons: Batman, James Bond, Spiderman.
Japanese-made games: Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry.
First person games in which the protagonist isn't even visible: Bioshock (the villians were also white, which you ignored), Halo (really? Master Chief is in a damn space suit the whole game and his race is ambiguous. The most visible character in that series is Cortana, a racially ambiguous female, because she's a fucking robot).

You've also listed the Witcher, which is a Polish game. Most Polish people are white, duh. Then you've listed Need for Speed (lolwut), which is a racing game with plenty of non-whites, and FIFA, which is based on real players in real football teams. And Rainbow Six? Really? There are plenty of non-white, non-male characters in that game. Same goes for Star Wars.

Moreover, why should games made outside the US be forced to adhere to US concepts like superficial diversity? Are you trying to exert your cultural norms on them? Sounds like digital colonialism to me mate. Furthermore, why do you lump all white guys together like Niko, who is Eastern European, with Ezio, who is Italian? Do you see them as "generic" despite the fact they have very little in common other than their skin colour?

Your list is bad, your arguments are bad, and you should feel bad.

Lol, you're all good. Serious conversations wasn't the best phrasing on my part. I meant that avoid debating and arguing things online anymore. Fun/random conversations, speculating about coming games/hardware, talking about life stuff in off topic etc. can definitely be serious and enjoyable! I just have no interest in trying to debate/argue and change peoples mind on anything. Mine's not going to change, so it would be a bit hypocritical to try and change others.

Kinda unrelated but does anybody know why @CyberPanda requested a perm ban? He was one of my favorite posters on here who often made me laugh and pretty much the only other member of kpop GAF at this point.

I will admit that I peeked, after I ignored them. I saw their name pop up and it told me I ignored the content, but I clicked it anway.

Not anymore.

Sucks when you have to ignore someone. I just did that myself but for very different reasons.

Not having the respect to give an explanation as to why they blank you is pretty cowardly, and I am too old to deal with that anymore.

I've been patient too with them, but sorry, if you don't wish to explain something that I may have did to upset you, or explain why you blanked me without given any reason to, but leave your account open for PMs to explain anything privately and then ignore the message for weeks on end, then I'm just going to Block and Ignore you on the basis that you are a coward and spineless to do it for nothing. /rant.

Haven't used ignore myself and I don't think I ever will. I like seeing what everybody thinks on topics being brought up. I don't see the use in the ignore feature anyway, when you can just skip over the posts or poster you don't like.

Unless someone is a relentless creep towards me (which has not happened) I'm not putting anyone on ignore. There are people here I don't click with well, but I don't really have any solid issues with anyone.
