Fire Emblem: Three Houses Preview Thread

The slice of Fire Emblem: Three Houses that we’re actually allowed to report on as part of today’s previews is only one early chunk of the game, but what becomes clear pretty early on is how this increased focus on out-of-battle options really helps to open up the series while also playing to its strengths. It’s an incredibly deft piece of additive sequel design. Much of this was present in the series before, but the school setting and design tweaks amps everything up to eleven.
Nintendo Life
There's a whole lot to talk about here, and we've barely scratched the surface of what the game has to offer. Games as large as this one can be an incredibly daunting prospect, but as mentioned above, we're now more excited than ever to play through the full thing and we think you should be too.

For my first playthrough, I went for the Black Eagles from the Adrestian Empire. The first thing that struck a chord with me is how well the characters are written. Every personality oozes charm and are a joy from the moment they enter the screen.

There’s a ton to take in with Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and you can really spend hours diving through menus trying to grok this stuff. On the bright side, if you’re just looking to have a good time and enjoy the story, playing on Normal will make the game incredibly easy, letting you ignore most of the super intense nitty gritty features. For the rest of you, now’s a good time to study up.

Sometimes, there's no better thrill than that of being lost. It's why I love those moments at the start of a big open world adventure when you set your first feet out in the wilds and see how far they stretch. After about a dozen hours with Fire Emblem: Three Houses, there's much that same sensation, only this time it's a giddiness that comes when you see how far its systems spread, how deep it runs and how bloody much of it there is.

And on the way, I’m having a great time delving into all of the school-bases systems. It makes developing and strengthening all of my characters a fun and thoughtful experience.
Structurally and visually, Three Houses feels like a significant leap for the franchise.
Kotaku
The moment I started Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I knew it was going to be problematic. With the opening cut scene, the first thing we see is a white flower. A fucking WHITE (probably male of course) flower. As I started shaking, I contemplated turning the game off and spending time with my therapy gerbil, Gabbers.

My only concern is how will this game will run. Its a first party game so they could do 1080p docked, 720p handheld, but I bet it has dynamic resolution.

According to the leaks we are getting a few bisexuals. I wonder what made NoA change their mind on making that go away like they did in the past.

A year ago, was very interested in Fire Emblem but now, not at all simply because I was hoping for just a Kingdom Battle/Mutant Year Zero type strategy turn based RPG meaning just some exploration and battles. Not into the whole building relationships and house thing. Does look good though and for those who'll be playing it, hope you all enjoy it. :)

Watched a bit of the gamexplain video and I guess I'm going to skip this for now.
Seems like it does the things it sets out to do well so I'm sure people will enjoy it. But between the highschool setting, lots of time spent outside of combat, the calendar and the whole time management aspect, it seems like it's going full Persona which just isn't what I want from Fire Emblem.
Plus I still think the art direction looks stale and boring.

I don't really get the decision to go away from the weapon triangle, but I guess I'll wait and see how it plays out. The designs are awful, the graphics are pitiful. That said, it's a Nintendo published game so it's not going on sale in the next decade, maybe I'll pick it up in a month or so after impressions from fans.

Probably the current climate. Anti censorship crowd would throw a fit and lefties would throw an even bigger fit if they yeet that outta there for the NA version. It'd be an incredibly bad idea.

One of my primary interests in the Switch was believing we'd eventually get a Fire Emblem game. I haven't been this hyped for a Switch game since Zelda WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

While the Nintendo pricing sucks, the good thing is that games at least tend to retain their value. So you can always buy a used copy, play it and resell it a couple of months later for the same price (or nearly the same price) as you paid.

It's probably what I'm going to do with this at some point

Savage Kotaku quote :D

I hope this game gets you in quickly. I loved Advance Wars to bits, and based on that got a Fire Emblem game on the DS but the story and tutorial was so long never got very far into it

Lmao at the Kotaku quote. Surprised no one commented on that.

LOL i didn't even read it at first because, well, Kotaku, but oh man I actually went and read the article to make sure it was real.

It's not real :(

It sounds amazing. But honestly, I have never enjoyed the time management aspects of Persona at all. I don't like being pressured to pick things on one free day while I miss other things. It's generally not something I enjoy.

Seems they really are making this Fire Emblem Persona.

Really excited for this. While I did enjoy Awakening and to a lesser degree Fates, I was introduced to FE through Path of Radiance which remains my favorite and I just have been waiting for the series to return to console. It's been looking hype so far, hope it delivers.

I really don't like the new art style and characters with dead eyes. Art style in Fire Emblem Warriors was much closer to main FE games along with character designs. But I like Persona part with time management, conversations with characters and relationship building cuz it'll make the game more grounded and realistic.

Idk, buying this game on launch doesn't seem like a good idea (at least for me), so I'll wait for reviews and see what other people have to say about the game after playing it a lot and after finishing it.

I think I'm gonna actually wait on this one.

I was excited for it, but I honestly don't think I'll have time to enjoy it considering how much there is to do.

Game looks like great fun though.

are you worry about length of the game? You don’t need worry about finish the game as fast as possible, in fact thanks to Switch also being portable system you can just play it bite size, you choose how long you put time in to the game.

I was skeptical because of the shit graphics and meh artstyle but other than that it seems the gameplay and story is top notch. Also yuri, I'm kinda excited for this game now.

Has anybody decided on a house yet? My first thought since relationships are key in this and I'm going male is to pick Black Eagle for the chance of making royal war babies.

I watched none of the trailer about the houses, I want to decide when playing the game.

Blue lions, although I might change my mind if Claude and his house impresses me early on.

Black Eagles for first playthrough, then Golden Deer, then Blue Lions.

I can't get over the character designs, I thought they might grow on me but they are so ugly. It looks like a fan made them in a shitty character customizer.
Oh god running animation with the coat flying all over the place is the worst running animation I've seen from a AAA game this gen.

Never really played FE before, probably should get this one if it gets good reviews. Combat looks kinda like Advance Wars/FF Tactics.

I'm a.little bit concerned about this game. I love the combat in FE games. I can't seem to get a straight answer every preview seems to go on about the training but is the combat typical FE?

Almost believed the kotaku quote for a second lol.

But most of the other journalists quoted normally are on or close to Kotaku's level.

Eurogamer or polygon are just as likely to complain that the loli dragon they have a tattoo of isn't trans enough
