France military parade featured a flying man

France is celebrating its national day and of course with a huge military parade ( He gets celebrated unlike Trump). But this should not be the topic here. Highlight of all this was this here.

This is the new flyboard Air. It can stay up to 20 minutes into the air with a speed of 190 Km/h (118mp/h)

The military future is finally here. I can not wait until this will be an actual product to buy for the public :p

Where we're going Marty, wo won't need a hoverboard.

Also, now we can have this in real life.

Yeah and imagine all the people getting killed trying to use one of these too. It’s never going to be made to the general public , people are just too stupid.

You can always try the water-propelled board thingy. It doesn't have the same tactical advantages as a fully autonomous fuel-based one, but the feelings should be similar.

Btw I was wondering why he was holding his rifle with one hand, but clearly he needs his right one to control the board. Needs some improvement on control before it can be a fully functional assault vehicle (make a special rifle with included board controls, for example).

Because how else are you going to get to work in France with all the streets covered by homeless terrorists?

Anyway it’s a cooler solution then what they do in South Africa.

that looked hilariously out of place
Seems like these guys could be shot out of the sky pretty easily. On the other hand, these boards might be excellent for search and rescue. Or in a Daft Punk or Jay-Z video.

Cool as hell. As displayed, would have almost no tactical utility though. You're a giant, slow moving target with no cover.

There's a jetpack special in Splatoon 2, and it's so bad I don't even use it anymore. You're just a giant bullseye for the opposing team most times.

These things are not slow. They are almost faster than normal cars. But it depends or much mobility they have in the end. To get into a area these would be great. Maybe even give back up to soldiers on the ground.

Would be neat to see them move quick and hit some targets. I remain a little skeptical still, but I'm hardly a military expert.

It is not much but it seems you can change direction pretty easily

However you will not be able to shoot so maybe it needs some automatic guns as well^^

Also it needs to be silent right now it seems to be really loud.

Honestly it looks like one device of sci fi movies^^

Besides stealthy insertion, this really doesn't have much of a military use. Especially not active combat where anyone using it would just be a really easy target.

Laser backpacks, men on flying boards and electric unicycles are some of the pieces of tech that have blown me away over the past few years.

It's like, i'm living the future I dreamt of as a kid (obviously i'm living a future from my childhood but you know what I mean)

The pace technology is going is fucking mind-boggling.

Stealthy insertion would be of much military use. This could be much quicker and quieter than dropping out of a helicopter or plane. This possibly could get them closer to the target as well. Plus at night there is no way an enemy could hit a small target moving that fast. I doubt they would actually do combat while flying these things however, trying to fly and shoot accurately could possibly be impossible unless they added some autopilot mode to them.

This is really cool and once this gets integrated into commercial tech its going to be even cooler.

Pretty much almost all of the tech we have now is thanks to the millitary.

Now if France has something like this I can only image what the US has. Probably talking real life Iron Man suites that just aren't ready for prime time yet.

Leave politics on the Politics forum.
I'm sorry but what american holiday is like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastille_Day ? Bastille day unlike the 4th of july is not a civic holiday.

Trump doing a military parade is unusual for all of US history. But macron is following the tradition since 14 July 1789.

So when journalist compare trumps parade more to dictatorships, it's because dictators are the ones who make new traditions like this.

Edit: I didn't know I wasn't in the politics forum ignore this and sorry, enjoy whoever you enjoy.

This thing will be useful in a war. You could equip seal team 6 with these things, it would give them a leg up in any battle.

What? That shit is noisy af, can be heard from miles "... boss! the navy seals are coming" , is very unstable, not a good platform for campers. You are an easy target up there ...

too expensive
too noisy
not practicable, unstable
overall a fun gadget to transport someone really fast out of a zone perhaps? Like in MGS5 ...

Improving current drone tech, to carry bigger weapons, more ammunition from A to B is most likely cheaper than a flying carpet made for a single dude.

They've also got this now...

Man, how close are we to an Iron Man like suit, at least in regards to flight (no enhanced strength or replusor blasts). Certainly won't be able to pull Gs like Tony can in the movies and comics. But a bulletproof suit capable of flight with guns built into the arms would be kinda cool and scary at the same time. Suit would have to be super light however (so the person inside doesn't get weighed down so much) as exoskeleton rigs that enhance strength seem to be advancing at a much slower pace.
