TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine Mini Lineup Trailer (50 games - 24 TurboGrafx-16 + 26 PC Engine)

Sorry for the double post, but I might as well ask this.

Should there be more than 50 game on the system, let's say there are 10 more games we don't know about, what games do you wish to see on there?

Here are my top 10:

1. Magical Chase

Reason: Possible due to the Poll and I believe M2 have worked on it, on top of Square owning the rights via their Studio Quest, who originally made the game. On top of being he creators of Hi-Score Girl, which shows a LOT of PC Engine love. If we also get the Japanese version, then it would be classed as two vastly different looking games!

2. Space Fantasy Zone

Reason: I am hoping that Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier is a hint to something more....like the Star Fox 2 requirement in the SNES Mini. Surely if you beat Levels 1 in FZ and SH, you unlock SPZ which is mostly a complete game and one of those few games no one owned but everyone knows about.

3. Splatterhouse

Reason: It is one of the more prolific Namco games that graced the console that Americans and Japanese love equally. Namco is a developer who is pretty prideful of their previous work, so I hope they have come to a deal with Konami to get it on.

4 Coyroon

Reason: A very underrated Gem that goes for a lot, just like Sapphire. I would class this, Sapphire and Magical Chase as the coveted Trinity. It is also a Cute em Up, and provides a little diversity to Magical Chase and Sapphire.

5. Legend of Valkyrie

Reason: A unique vertical platformer where you can't really backtrack much. The PCE doesn't seem to have many of these games and would be a great addition to the Platformers already on there.

6. Devils Crush

Reason: We missed it on the Mega Drive Mini, and Alien's Crush is there. Having 2 Unique Pinball games would be a great way to diverse the line up on the PCE Mini and I would certainly be playing it a lot as I love Pinball games!

7. Ai Cho Aniki

Reason: We rarely see this one mentioned, and as a sequel to Cho Aniki, it would be a nice compliment to give both of the games the full on spotlight. Extreme seem okay giving their games a chance on modern consoles such as Langrisser, for example.

8. Asuka 120% Maxima

Reason: We need more fighting games on the system and this would be an amazing gem on the system that I believe Success own (who own Cotton). It's a curio I always wanted to try.

9. Cosmic Fantasy 2 (or 3)

Reason: One of the few RPGs the US got on the Turbographix-16, and given that some of the games on the Mini were published by Working Designs (now Gaijinworks). I wonder if Victor Ireland would want to see this on the Mini also?

10. Fire Pro Wrestling: 2nd Bout

Reason: You need a Sports game on the system, and what better one than Human Entertainments? (now Spike Chunsoft).

It would likely make Suda51 beam with pride as he'd be happy to have it on the System if Konami just asked?

Now onto my Honourable Mentions. I will only talk about games that are notable on the PC Engine that are either superior to the SNES/Mega Drive or an exclusive release/taken from Arcades.

I know that's a possibility, but personally I'm not a fan of going that route. One of the reasons is simply compatibility and accuracy. Games that are included on the Nintendo and SEGA consoles are tailored and optimized to run well on these consoles (especially SEGA's console done by M2). Second, I'm a purist, and like to have my stuff "untouched". And third, if I ever wanted to get all games on such a console, I'd buy a Raspberry Pi instead.

That's just my take on it. People are free to do whatever they want with their purchased consoles. (y)
These are 8/16 bit games. Like the NES and SNES, the emulation result will be the same across the board for almost all games barring those with special chips. (Pretty sure Turbo games don’t have anything like that)

I’m also pretty sure no games were tailored to those emulation consoles at all. (Except Starfox 2 for obvious reasons) It’s just rom dumps. What games are and are not on the device comes down to what they have the license for. Purists who buy this won’t get the Spatterhouse series on there simply because Konami won’t pay Namco for the rights, not because the roms weren’t specially tailored for the device.

Plus, unlike a Raspberry Pi, you get to play these games with replicas of the original controllers.

To each his own for sure but the whole selling point of this device is to play emulated Turbo/PCE games on a replica device. Adding more emulated games to the replica isn’t a deviation from a purist sense no more than putting more carts in the slot of an original console.

I mean, it may end up being a cheap, shitty device in general. I hope not though. Having a nice Turbo console with brand new controllers and its whole library of games on tap would be a dream.

You just reminded me at the Turbo Tap and an Extra 4 Controllers is a serious Wallet Killer! 😲

lol Truth. Bomberman 93 is an expensive experience but it could be worse... It could be Saturn Bomberman with 10 controllers and two expansions needed.

Man....Saturn Bomberman is just so much (expensive) these days, but people still call it the GOAT! I like the Switch one too.

Fun trivia about the TG16:

"In 2016, rapper Kanye West's 8th solo album was initially announced to be titled "Turbo Grafx 16".[47][48] The title, however, was later changed to "ye". "

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
More excited for this than the Sega Megadrive Mini.

So, basically:
- For Europe Konami announced a price of 89.90 Euros and Amazon as the exclusive distributor.
- On July 15th the preorders on Amazon are opened with a price of 110 Euros.
- I asked Amazon why, linking the official Konami statement. They replied that the 89.90 Euros price is some kind of "promotional price" decided by Konami and that they are selling the console at 110 euros.

This is quite shady.

Not buying it.

There is a Bomberman '93 special edition Hucard - it was a promotional giveaway, but a strange one because it only supported the multiplayer battle mode - which is a strange design decision since natively the PC Engine only supported a single controller.

For some strange reason, it's now stupidly expensive.

Looking at the title of the game, I thought he was going to recommend starting a campaign to get more games added, but he basically just said "hack it and add more roms"! It was funny when he recommended that angry guy's youtube channel after I had said I need to watch Johnny's video again as an antidote. Sorry Johnny, but nope, still can't stand more than 2 minutes of that guy's ranting, even on a Wednesday afternoon.

I love how passionate people are about the system though. Him talking about how lonely it could be being a PC Engine owner reminded me of my own experiences with the Saturn and Mega CD. Hopefully, if some as relatively niche as the PC Engine Mini is successful, Sega will be more likely to take a chance on their less successful consoles too.

What i'm finding weird is they are selling the multitap but no extra pads to use on the damn thing on amazon uk. There seems to be no extra pads for the core or turbografix consoles just the white ones that match the japanese pc engine & those pads are only on amazon japan.

And what about amazon.com?

Or are you not into the bigger US design? :lollipop_grinning:
Not really :messenger_beaming:

I prefer the UK look. Looks nice and colors look good too.

I just tried Amazon uk again, fr, ger and jp and none deliver to Aus except US. So looks like I'm stuck with that unless we get them here.

I went and pre-ordered from Amazon US just in case. Rather do that now for free and cancel later if we get them here than leave it too late and be stuck with nothing.

I have pre-ordered this. I do hope the rumor of Konami adding more games is true, I would love to see Forgotten Worlds CD and Buster brothers on the USA side and Martial Champions on the Japanese side, While it not the greatest fighting game it is owned by Konami and uses 3 buttons instead of 6 like Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. This video shows some games they should look at,

Nintendoboys are litteraly scary on Resetera.

SNES Mini is the best and it's not even close.

They shitpost on the Turbo Mini as if it was nothing and ignore the lack of Beat Them All on the SNES mini.

Lords of Thunder ? Who cares !? Schmups sux. What is BTA ? Only SNES has great classics.

I think I've never seen such clueless fanboys. The good news is that their ignorance became too obvious on the mini consoles poll thread.

Anyway... Is the Snatcher version censored ?

I was curious about that too. The PC engine version of Snatcher is the probably the truest version. Shame if they would censor it.

Hori Europe are selling the controllers.

Found this on Play-Asia as well.

Two Controller ports!!!

Regarding the Amazon Price insrease thing. I am suspecting that the additional games are a last minute addition and will reflect in the price should they ever reveal them.

God I hope they do. I love the SNES Mini but Nintendo seemed to have opened the floodgates at one upping one another now. So far only SEGA have done it correctly.

For anyone Down Under. Play-Asia has all 3 up which should ship to Australia or you can use Zenmarket as a Proxy service to buy it from Rakuten or Amazon Japan.

Yesterday I checked the Amazon Sales on the PC Engine Mini in the UK to the Switch Mini.

PC Engine Mini was ranked 6th!

The Switch Mini in comparison was at 194!!

Looks like it will include Spriggan and Spriggan mark 2, unfortunately in Japanese only.
Would have been nice to see Spriggan Mark 2 translated.
Someone started a fan translation years ago, but it seems long dead now.

The two ships are named Reagan and Eastwood. LOL.

Thanks for the heads up. I wonder how much it'll go for.

Splatterhouse and Spriggan are excellent adds. Still a long way to go but moving in the right direction.

Where is this news coming from?

What is a proxy service?

It is usually a service that helps you buy stuff that is otherwise for domestic use only.

Edit: Gematsu says final list but surely they are not going to ignore omittions like Magical Chase and Legendary Axe?

Does anyone know why Legendary Axe is still missing? It's a pretty famous game for the system (one of the few I've heard of as a non-PC Engine owner), so is a pretty glaring omission.

Marvelous owns the rights to it. Maybe they couldn't get a deal done.

Wow! They really did add more games. And a nice selection of games. Really love this collection and can't wait to play it. Still would be nice if they were to somehow get a translation on Snatcher for those that need it, but this along with the Mega Drive mini got me super excited.

Still disappointed they didn't take half of the polls requests still.

Magical Chase, Coryoon and Linda Cubed are missing.

Legendary Axe and Cosmic Fantasy 2 is a missed opportunity.

Glad to see Legend of Valkyrie, Splatterhouse and I think Samurai Ghost (is it or a game that looks like it?) on there!!!

I see that a bit more difference in JP and Euro/US ver... due to Tengai Makyou II, I am leaning towards JP ver... although it's the only one that doesn't have turbo button. LOL (Turbo button on Bonk's adventure made things quite easy)

So we're not getting the same line-up for all?

I'm very confused now man.
Ours will be garbage without Japanese only titles. Unless they find time to translate them all or most of them then forget it.

I hope M2 have told Konami they could make more money from fans if you could switch regions with the ROMs instead of this jumbled mess.

If Snatcher really is Japanese only then they will be mocked harshly for it.

Really there should be laws about making a product have an english varient should it exist.

We’re all getting the same games regardless of localization

This isn’t fully true. While almost all the games are the same there are a few games exclusive to the pc engine mini and one for the two others. For instance Tokimeki Memorial and Tengai Makyou 2 are only on the PC Engine Mini. Also Salamander will not be on the pc engine mini but will be on the tg-16/pc engine corrgrafx mini only. It’s annoying but it is what it is.
