Although the company has yet to announce anything about a new game in the development, the name suggests it may be a game related to the franchise. And for anyone who fears that it might be a mobile game or pachinko, the words (Household Console Game), ROM カ ー ト リ ッ (ROM Drive) and 光 デin the (Japanese) suggesting it will be a new title for consoles.

I''m a huge fan of the SEGA franchises like Nights and the more obscure titles that were never considered a true success. SEGA has a back catalog Nintendo couldn't even couldn't compete with (in my opinion). And yes, it's lovely to see Panzer Dragoon getting a remaster.

However, I do miss SEGA's creative flair. The very flair that gave birth to things like Nights, Jet Set Radio, Virtua Racing, and whatnot. People forget that SEGA was always the absolutely hardcore games company, a company that didn't "play by the rules", a company that was on the cutting edge of hardware and gameplay innovation.

It may have been (co-)responsible for its downfall, but I wouldn't trade it in for anything less.

Sega only failed because a certain somebody screwed over the Saturn and they never recovered from that.

Please no talking cutscenes like the Wii game had. They were just embarrassing to watch.

I don't think one could single out one particular thing or person that was responsible for the Saturn's lack of success (in the West at least). It was a slew of things together. I don't even think Steve "$299" Race was the main problem, but SEGA of America itself, since the Genesis.

I always found it satisfyingly karmic that after fucking over the developers of Sonic Xtreme (and potentially all of sega during that saturn era), Sonic Team would never again make a decent sonic game.

I bet you it's gonna be one of these things:
  • Mobile Game
  • Pachinko Machine
  • A line of merchandise
  • Literally nothing
I won't believe it's a new game until they announce a new game.

Well that's certainly part of it.

People don't realize how Sega has improved during the last years, after the restructuring, and has been outputting quality games one after another. Games have a higher finish level and are translated in more languages than before.

All their latest efforts look very good to me, and I am talking about the Sega stuff, not about Atlus who are doing there own things. Sega however has been outputting and overseeing quality games from all sizes.

Sonic Mania was awesome, great support to a small team of passionate developers.
Dragon's Trap Remake, same thing here, the game was fantastic, and their work on Streets of Rage 4 has already gathered approval from fans and is shaping up nicely.
Monster Boy, Sega simply proposed some publishing support I think, but it was again a quality game.
Sonic Forces reviewed poorly because a 3D Sonic can't review well, but the game is actually a lot of fun, has a high level of finish, and was one of the only AAA third party games to get released on Switch at the same time. I played the game one Xbox One X and it was awesome.
Sonic Team Racing is pretty comparable, well polished and fun.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is one the best games this gen, and is a love letter to Sega fans.
The MegaDrive Mini, and asking M2 to work on it, again good choices aimed towards quality, and the selection of games blasts away all other Minis out there.
Great BC effort on Xbox as well.

Sakura Wars making a come back, I personally like what I have seen so far.
Panzer Dragoon, I am pretty sure that Sega will keep a close look at this.
PSO2 finally coming West, that's pretty huge.

All the stuff made by Yakuza Studio I don't give a fuck about, but probably some guys find that this is representative of Sega and of good quality ? Can't say.

They made surveys in past years to ask for the games we wanted to see, and they actually have been checking the list one game after another.

The Sega FES event dedicated for fans.

They have been building great foundations going forward, the good games are already here so just buy them and play them, otherwise nothing can happen, and it will be the exact same situation as before.

The first game on Saturn was what games should be. Bizarre and/or trippy, fun and enthralling.

A most excellent experience and cherished memory.

First Panzer Dragoon and now this. Sega is finally coming to their senses.

Things have been pretty amazing these past couple of years. With Sonic Mania, Shenmue 3, Wonder Boy, SoR4....etc all coming out, my previously long list of old IPs I wanted a new entry is getting shorter and shorter. While I could name a dozen more IPs, the main ones I'm left with now are:
Jet Set Radio
Shinobi (both a 3D and 2D game would be fine)
Virtua Fighter (or preferably a Sega Megamix 2)
Burning Rangers (like Nights, a unique gameplay concept, plus those fires could look great with ray tracing)

I''m a huge fan of the SEGA franchises like Nights and the more obscure titles that were never considered a true success. SEGA has a back catalog Nintendo couldn't even couldn't compete with (in my opinion). And yes, it's lovely to see Panzer Dragoon getting a remaster.

What was the last big original IP Sega came out with? Binary Domain (I don't count Judgment - too similar to Yakuza)? I'm not going to complain right now, and am happy for them to spend the next 2 or 3 years concentrating on old IPs, but Sega's creativity and willingness to try new things was one of the things I loved most about them. Creative Assembly have a new shooter coming out, but I hope the Yakuza and Sonic Team get to try a new IP soon as well.

Jet Set Radio 3, please

And port the others to modern consoles

With less popular and marketable IPs already getting remakes or new games, I think a new JSR is a inevitability right now (I think we'll hear some news next year)

Please no talking cutscenes like the Wii game had. They were just embarrassing to watch.

I played the Wii game a couple of years back. Yeah, the cut scenes were super cringy. There is no need for Nights to speak at all. I think the music and actual flying stages were pretty good, and being able to turn into a dolphin was cool too, but the platform and balloon stages with fluff. Some people complained about the controls, but the game let you use the Gamecube pad, which felt fine to me.

Could be a Nights themed DLC track and character pack for Sonic Team Racing with that name.

I think "Dream Wheel" sounds strange for a racing game, plus I don't think they would have Nights as the first choice for Sonic Team Racing DLC. I think "Dream Wheel" is a little more abstract, maybe some kind of device which controls Dreams, so I expect a traditional Nights game.

They recently had a little slip-up with SolSeraph, but apart from that they've been great. I do think the sales have been a little disappointing so far though. Although IPs such as Yakuza have been selling pretty well now, I don't feel they've had a smash hit on par with something like Nier Automata. Being a massive Yakuza fan, I personally think that deserves to be a multi-million seller, but any of their games would do.

I do think gutting SoA and making ATLUS USA the de-facto tam is th best thing they ever done.

I remember the early 2010s where the team honestly didn't care unless it was Sonic. What remains of them are the core Sonic PR Team lead by Aaron Webber, who runs the Sonic Twitter (and honestly, it is making Sonic more of a joke).

The dark days of treating PSO/U fans like shit and overpromising to the Valkyria Crowd are thankfully over.

ATLUS USA have really stepped up and seem to be very happy making the Yakuza localisation as well as their own titles as well.

We finally got a 7th Dragon Title, Europe seems to get ATLUS games quicker and seem to actually care about their other franchises other than just Sonic/Yakuza.

To add about sales expectations. I think ATLUS USA know how to make money on a nichr audience as thry have done it for years now and have probably talked to SEGA Japan on projectary over the next few years.

They seem to be happy with retail performance at least.

Well, I acknowledge this as Sega US/Atlus editing these games that aren't great and share no legacy with Sega at all anyway.

Like not releasing Catherine Full Body on Vita while both the code and the translation exist ? Atlus have no clue at all, they are still completely lost, in my opinion.

Does anybody else here get triggered watching people playing Nights in youtube reviews? They pretty much never seem to use the dash button, never try to make links, and end the level when there is still plenty of time left instead of racking up the points. It's kind of like watching somebody play Mario without ever using the run button. Even though that's the case, I've never seen a reviewer really trash the game. They always seem to respect it's creativity, even though they don't seem to know how to properly play it.

Being the first Sonic Team game on the Saturn (back when Sonic Team were still highly respected), there was a massive amount of hype around the game, and it lived up to it, IMO.

It got a (I think well deserved) 96% in the Sega Saturn Magazine:

Edit:

I just noticed that they only gave Road Rash 78% on the next page, calling it a "poor conversion" from the 3DO. I always thought it was a pretty good conversion.

Sony calls it a dead console and the production was stopped earlier this year in the west. :(

I would love that to happen, but that is up to ATLUS Japan sadly.

I used Yt to learn how to play the game!!!

What bugs me about the game is trying to beat these bosses fast but due to how the physics work, sometimes I cannot do the Gillwing trick or beat Puffy fast enough.

Not so sure about that. I think it is Atlus USA who decides if they want to make and release a digital version of the game.

They couldn't take off the stream on Persona 5 as the Japanese side wouldn't let them iirc.

These days though, wouldn't SEGA be able to overrule any marketing strategy Atlus have anyway? It is in SEGAs interest to release ATLUS games on anything and everything and not ATLUS Japan,
