Sega PC ports campaign continues with petition (Vanquish, Bayonetta, VF5)

Vanquish is at around 100,000 now, to Bayonetta's 260,000-ish. The latter's higher profile, cult status and genre novelty probably played some part in its success, along with the release timing. Still, considering Vanquish's more obscure nature as an IP, its performance isn't necessarily bad.

The Yakuza series' growing momentum and visibility would definitely be on its side as far as a PC release goes - I agree that it appears to have the potential to stand out and do surprisingly well.

GAF told me that the Yakuza director doesn't like PC and that it won't be on PC. Is this true?

It's not so much that Nagoshi-san hates the PC platform, he's just one of those "old-school" japanese devs that have always made games for either arcades or consoles.

Plus it is a fact that at the time the series started, it was one of the few series aimed at the market of "older" japanese males rather than the kids crowd which a lot of JRPGs and stuff tend to target. To this day, the game is made for with that target audience still in mind so naturally a PC version isn't something that they give a lot of importance to.

Also worth mentioning that the games aren't massive AAA affairs that need to sell millions of copies so they don't NEED to from a financial standpoint.

But with the push they've started giving this series again in the West, I wouldn't be surprised if they are at least CONSIDERING a PC version for the newer games somewhere down the line.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
According to SteamDB, "SteamDB Unknown App 272110 (Little Stone Sega Test App 5)" was worked on 3 months ago.

I remember when Sega dropped Typing of the Dead Overkill onto PC unnanounced. I still hope for House of the Dead 4...

...and After Burner Climax, Virtua Fighter 5, etc.

That was the result of general backend fiddling by Valve (if you click through to the changenumber page, you'll see it affected over 600 apps from a wide range of publishers). The app hasn't been touched by Sega's hand since February 2014.

Thanks for the clarification.

100,000 units for a port of a relatively obscure console game that came out 7 years ago and was considered a commercial flop? Sounds pretty good to me.

Ports really aren't that expensive to make. They can be done in a few months with a very small team and a budget far below $1 million. I'm pretty sure Vanquish PC has already broken even and become profitable. For comparison, most JRPG PC ports sell less than 100k units and those are still getting pumped out. Japanese publishers and developers wouldn't continue to port their games to PC if the ports weren't profitable.

Yes, Sega paid attention to our list:

“We have a wishlist [for most-wanted re-releases], and one of the first games that we brought out [from that list] was Valkyria Chronicles. That came out on PC, and the appetite for that game on PC led to it coming out on console as well, and now we see that the franchise is becoming really healthy.”

“That triggered renewed interest in the West for [Sega’s] Japanese titles, and they started to go to a bigger audience in the West than they had, say, 10 years or 15 years ago,” continued Clark. “It was encouraging for us and for Sega in Japan to see that. I think that influenced and gave us leverage on the kind of titles we could bring out, titles like Shenmue.”

and more important:

There are more games on the list, there are more announcements to be made, and we’re just happy that we can bring out Shenmue I & II now.

He doesn't quite say our list but they've done shout outs to the petition before. They personally thanked me for our campaign's contribution to Valkyria's success on PC.

Well, what a surprise. I kinda expected VC4 on PC at some point cuz the very first game did extremely well on PC, but Yakuza? Damn! Here's hoping that more games from this series will be available on PC.

Thank you, SEGA!

P.S. I still intend to buy VC4 for my Switch if Collectors Edition will be available in my country for this platform.

sega you motherfuckers give me VF on PC

:(

"Hey you motherfucker" Sega released Nights, JSR, Binary Domain, Yakuza 0, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Valkyria Chronicles 4 , Catherine and is without doubt the most active japanese publisher on PC. You also want a blow job by Scarlet Joh***n in top of that ? :)

Keep cool, man. Virtua Fighter 2 come back on PC in May with Yakuza Kiwami 2. If that's not enough you'll probably have the 6th with Virtua Fighter 5 next year.

"Don't worry, be happy".

Jesus the Dragon Engine in 4K, 60 FPS without the tearing and alliasing from PS4 Y6. That's pure dope!

I had it on good authority at one point that the VF5 port was going to happen. Not sure what happened after that. For a bit there were people inside of Sega talking to me due to this campaign. Things sure have changed since we did this though, and for the better.

Thanks everybody.

Maybe Sega have decided to do a proper Virtua Fighter 6 and releasing it on PC as well.

This thread got me thinking of a possible Fighters Megamix 2, so much so that I even made a thread about it:

More realistically, I think a Virtua Fighter Collection would be great (1-5, plus spin-offs, such as VF Kids).

If I were to stake money on the next PC port, I would say Yakuza 3 HD or Persona 5.

Yeah I would like a Virtua Fighter collection, also a Tekken and Soul Calibur collection from Namco too. The games are all spread out on different console generations so it would be nice to have them all in a single collection.

I think arcade collections in general are a much neglected genre. Although PC owners always have MAME to fall back on, it would still be nice to have some Sega, Namco, Taito etc collections.

Virtua Fighter 5 was (is) GOD TIER. 4 too by the way.

Jet Set Radio Future and Gunvalkyrie are also games that deserved more recognition than they got.

SEGA GT and it's 2002 follow-up are probably impossible due to the licensing.

And the recent Daytona Championship USA deserves a official home release as well, in my opinion.

There are way too many old Sega games to mention. There are even Master System games I would like them to re-release. Saturn is always entirely overlooked too!!! Will Sega listen to these requests?

Something I'd really like ported is the Switch Sega Ages series. For the 3DS one, it made sense to be exclusive to that platform due to the 3D effect, but no such reason exists for the Switch series.

Last year i read on Era a theory that says all the upcoming revivals, sequels were contained in the Sega Fes intro 2018

For the moment it's accurate for almost every game shown

Pso2 x box one OK
Sakura PS4 OK
Mario and sonic OK
Hatsune miku switch
Space channel ok
Nights OK ? New trademark

Good news, the last game of the video is... Virtua fighter

Virtua Fighter and Virtual On for the PC would blow people's minds.

If SEGA made those accessable, holy hell the people would blow their minds with the mods and high level play for each of those games.

Virtual On is already on Steam.
VF5 is a given through Yakuza 6 or Judgment. I'm looking forward for Oilie Kings, Last Bronx and System 32 games. (08/29/2019 #Nagoshi)

I mean an official release where you can tinker with the characters and stuff!

Does it at least do online for Virtual On?
