The Last of Us 2 Is 'Hands Down the Most Ambitious Game Naughty Dog Has Ever Made' - 'You Are Not Ready For TLOU 2' Says Troy Baker.

It’s been over a year since we last got an update on the highly anticipated The Last of Us: Part II, but speaking at Manchester Comic-Con this weekend, star Troy Baker managed to whet our appetite with some tidbits about what we can expect from the title when the title deploys. The actor, who plays Joel in the series, was coy about sharing too many details – but he suggested that even he’s been surprised by how the project’s coming together.

“I can tell you this: it’s hands down the most ambitious game that Naughty Dog has ever done for sure,” he exclaimed, as part of a larger interview which will be published on Push Square later this week. “It’s far larger than I thought was going to be possible.”

Of course, we all want to know when we’ll actually be able to play it, and so we asked Baker if he had any more insight on actress Ashley Johnson’s recent slip-up. For those of you out of the loop, the Ellie star seemed to suggest that the sequel will be out in February, but her co-star seemed confused by the apparent error.

“It’ll be out 31st February, that’s what [Johnson] said – people just took it out of context,” he joked. “Wow, I’m sure she got a call from Sony saying, ‘Shut up!’ She’s like, ‘Guys, it’s a f*cking joke!’”

He continued that he doesn’t actually know the date: “I think they’ve probably been smart not to tell us because we can’t slip up and say something stupid. Last time we announced, we slipped. And they don’t want to do that again. We are still cranking on it, I can tell you that much. Where it’s at in development, I have no idea. Everybody feels like it’s broken until it’s shipping, and then when it’s shipping they’re like, ‘We shipped a broken game!’ And that’s the gig of making a game.”

Uncharted star Nolan North, who was also in attendance during the interview, interjected that “they’re not going to release it until they’re ready to release it”. So we’re no wiser as to when the title will launch, but if Baker’s comments on the scale of the game are accurate, then we can appreciate why the award-winning developer’s taking its time. Either way, we simply have to learn more soon – it’s been far too long since our last public update on the project.

For all I care it may be the best game ever made, I will only buy it used later. Not supporting a company that is the personification of a comunities like resetera.

I know it'll never happen but I hope enough People think alike and this ends up selling worse Than part 1.

I loved the first game and will buy this day one. Not sure why you guys are hating on a game because of gender politics, who gives a shit. Sounds very ERA like to me.

Not at all. We're hating it while Era is loving it, so not sounding like Era at all. I never heard of that site until Gaf and to this day, that's the only time Gaf has let me down as Era is trash and I wish I never went there even once

Those are the kinds of statements that make me not want to buy games.
"It's gonna blow your mind."
"You have no idea what's coming."
"You're not ready for it."
"John Romero is gonna make you his bitch."

Just show the game and shut the fuck up.
Your "clever" marketing slogans produce the exact opposite effect of what you want.

Are people really this pissed off about lesbians being in game, and the fact that Druckmann is friends with Anita? Wow, you guys are petty as hell, lmao

Definitely. ERA hates games if the cast only has straight people, and Gaf hates games if the cast has LGBT people. Two sides of the same coin.

BioShock Infinite was a bold statement at the time, right? He was in that. What game are we really never prepared for? He's also in Death Stranding. I personally would rather see him in Death Stranding over TLoU2. I enjoyed TLoU, but I can only expect death and more death.

This was driven home by the whining about someone from the cast saying stuff people don't like on Twitter like that had anything more than a very loose connection to what the game is like. These kinds of controversies and paranoia are less about the game and a pretext for people who live on social media and imagine it's the real world to axe grind. if you get worked up over something like this maybe take a break, read a book, consider the possiblity that you're contributing to stupidity on the internet.

Wont be picking this up since I vote with my wallet when companies play gender politics. EA hopefully learnt their lesson, I doubt ND will do the same. PlayStation has a wider audience of soys then anyone else.

Oh come on now. The poster obviously meant that hating on games that have (or don’t have) political undertones is very ERA.

I’d like to think Gaf is above that now. Where people look at each game for what it is and make a judgement call on whether one wants to play it.

This is obviously the game ND wanted to make and wrote the story the way they wanted (not like shoe-horning some character in there to check the box).

Up to you whether you want to play it, but I’d suggest to limit your self arbitrarily is just silly.

I could not care less if the main character is a lesbian or not but the way ND responded to any kind of critisism gives me the impression that their offices are filled with the same loonies that make ERA such a nice place. Not supporting that.

Maaan, wish all these years this was actually built for PS5 in mind and NOT on the peasant plateaued current gen. There's no @#$% way in hell worth dropping $$ for this game when PS5 just around the corner launching in Nov, 2020.

After watching the last game play trailer, I know the game is going to be great.

I'm sure the multiplayer will be even bigger, too.

Can't wait.

It wont be as great as they think it will be, because of their blatant hubris. The proggressive agenda will turn alot of gamers off as well. I suspect a decent made game tho, they had 6 years and unlimited funds to work with.

Sure, I belive them, but the headline still sounds like an usual pr stuff

When your game as a new IP moves 17 million units and goes on to get more Game Of The Year Awards then GTAV as both games released the same year........they have a lot of pressure and juice to make that claim.

"The proggressive agenda will turn alot of gamers off" Ok, who cares? Thats like saying "The white male agenda will turn alot of gamers off" when talking about Call Of Duty...oh, you mean the people that where never even going to buy or play it?

So who cares? Those same folks didn't like The Last Of Us 1, won't like 2. Yet...17 million units later and 240 GOTY awards later, we are at 2. How that crowd feels about the game is irrelevant. With 6 years development and such a talented studio, I'm expecting a huge GOTY turn out and a master piece. These guys know how to push hardware to the limits and are so talented its unfair to even ask of this level of talent to be the norm. It would be like asking most Basket Ball players to be like Jordan or something.

Did some people expect Troy Baker to say "Last of US 2 is a generic, underdeveloped mess of a game, it's everything wrong with gaming in a nutshell, so disappointing, just watch it on youtube".....That's sounds more like something an XBOX fan would say.....

Given that Troy is the man voicing Joel and he says that the game is much larger than even he thought would be possible, seems like an honest opinion to me.....working on the game and more a compliment to what he feels Naughty is achieving with the game...….Of course, whether Troy said that or not will not prevent persons from having other opinions or opposed opinions when the game ships...…….That's not hype, that's just Troy saying Naughty is pushing the envelope and it's not news that they are one of the most talented if not the most talented dev studio in the business....

And the people pretending that saying anything positive about a game turns them off, get a grip, you were not that interested anyway...…..If Troy said this isn't shaping out too good, you would be quick to post this as "LOU2 is going to suck", so you're not fooling anybody.....

Exactly. I just love games and have no use for either side of this stupid issue. I couldn't care less if the game I'm playing has a black, white or other main character or whether they're gay or straight or or male or female or transgender etc. I care about the game being fun to play and telling a story I find interesting if it's a narrative-driven game and whether it looks and runs well. That's it. I get it if a game has as strong political push that some on the other side may find it offensive, but just having an all white cast or a gay lead or whatever isn't a strong political narrative by any means.

I have no use for people who get their panties in a wad over these kind of things. People complaining about too many white, straight, male characters and people bitching about LGBT characters or whatever both go on ignore. I want to have fun chatting about games with others who enjoy playing and talking about games. I don't come to game forum for lame political discussion regardless of whether I agree with the politics or not. Games are an escape from that type of nonsense for me and the ignore user and thread feature is a godsend.

Still waiting for the first ever pre-release interview where a dev or someone involved with a game says “yeah I this is gonna be alright, you’ll probably like it.”

I’m as excited for TLOU2 as anyone, first game is in my all-time top 10, but I grow a little desensitized to hype pieces from Person Involved With Game Tells Me This Game Is Best Game Ever.

LOL at all of the anger this game gets.
This is just a standard interview with a somewhat famous person working on the game. What is he supposed to say? "it's ok, probably above average guys!!!", "I mean, it's not Bloodborne you know?, but it's still pretty neat", "nah, it's not better than the first in any way but I guess if you like that one maybe pick this on up on sale?".

Anyway, game is looking good.
Still have my worries about the plot going too woke or Druckmann doing the same as he did in Uncharted 4 and focusing too much on the story. But that short gameplay video we got looked awesome and if that's indeed what we can expect of the full game I expect to like it a lot

You forgot the cloud and gaas

Considering ND's recent output hasn't really been that, well....ambitious or hell even varied when you look at it, being the most ambitious game they've done probably isn't that difficult. Add a tiny new gameplay gimmick or feature here and there and bam, that's ambitious for them.
