Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

Well, Sony did say that they position next gen console as a premium product.

They did? I remember them saying that the PS5 would be priced at a level that would be attractive to gamers, but I don't remember them saying it would be "premium".

Of course, reading between the lines, "attractive to gamers" means, "it's not going to be cheap, but with these specs gamers will be happy to pay".

They described it as a niche product aimed at hardcore gamers with attractive price. Could mean different things. I agree that 499 sounds like the most likely outcome but I will not cross out 500+ possibility. For them 599 might equal as attractive price for hardware they are selling. If by some chance they deliver 2080ti level performance along with the other staff then 599 would be a very attractive price. I think a lot of hardcore gamers would agree.

Have you even read it? Leak mention 48GB in devkit unit, and 24GB in retail unit. Do you consider 24GB unrealistic amount of RAM in next gen console? Also 52 CU @1.6GHz isnt something impossible (11TF Navi architecture).

Some of it seems reasonable, but all that "custom ML / Havox" instructions, as well as "64GB (max) SSD VRAM" makes me think BS/doesn't make sense..

They did say they'll use the ssd as virtual ram that's just like a partition they're taking 64 GB out of 1 tb of the ssd for ram so what's bullshit here? And about havok you do realise Microsoft brought havok a couple of years ago

why is SSD virtual ram limited to 64GB ? - so small fraction .. and how the fuck will that work anway ? - no way is SSD fast enough to function as virtual memory for GPU ..

what are "custom havok instructions" - it's a physics engine - just uses maths - not sure what isn't already covered by SIMD instructions.

Even at $500 we aren’t getting a high end gaming rig.

1080 = low end by todays standards mate even while most pc gamers sit on 970/1060/580 gpu's. All those gpu's besides 580 will be hopelessly outdated when next gen arrives.

I have a 1080 ti, can barely run metro exodus and ac odyssey at stable 60 fps on 1080p. and that's with a 9900k 5ghz overclock on all cores with a ssd that runs at 3500/3200 write read.

2060 = a 1080 which is phased out now with 2060 super which is a bit faster then a 1080.

2070 super = about a 2080 / 1080 ti. which is seen as mid gen which will be next gen a 3060.

The 5700 and 5700xt are pretty much mid tier to low gpu's right now and will be low end next series of gpu's.

A ryzen 2 1,6ghz cpu 8/16 core is now already available for 130 i think and its seen as mid gen already, next gen its seen as low end specially the clock makes it more in line with a even shittier 1700 ryzen.

Ram, well any serious gaming pc will have 16gb now already as standard and that will rise up to 32gb pretty fast, with gpu's that sit at 8gb if you are behind its 6gb, that's already more then PS5 is going to offer. A 1070 basically already has 8gb and everything further form that is 8gb. high end sits at 11gb and that's not even high end anymore. 16gb v-ram cards will probably be pushed out next year.

So yea, what's so high end about those boxes? that 5700 card in it will be cut down anyway as it needs to be delivered in a cheapo package that isn't going to be watercooled in any way.

So lets check prices of the most expensive parts

130 bucks for a 1700 cpu
350 bucks for a gpu
80 bucks for memory

So yea that's 560 bucks, lets say Sony pays half of that that's 280 bucks. Add in another year or so and those parts are even more cheaper, so lets say they pay 200 bucks for it because they helped to design with it and probably can make whatever price they want. selling 100 million chips is good business.

Now add all the other stuff towards it which lets say doubles the price for them which makes it 400. they could sell it without profit like the PS4 or a tiny bit of profit and done.

If someone was making a leak they would have just said xbox one x case .. not chuckwalla case.

Im calling it ... i think the pastbin is real.

https://pastebin.com/y8qXme7b

As they say with Microsoft there are no rumors only leaks.

Mmmh. pastebin from zero to hero in one codename.

I have to admit. I'm warming up to this one too.

[edit] SonGoku SonGoku 393mm2 = 8 core zen, 52 CU Navi + 1 "ray tracing core" per CU + possibly/probably on die Custom Tensilica audio .. do the numbers add up for you ??

I love how all of a sudden because the pastebin rumor is favorable to a certain console now it's defended by the arm chair console fans. 👀👀👀Looks at names 👀👀👀👀 pray baby pray!!!! Lol

Yo this site is predictable asf

I will continue to hold my stance tht the majority has had on which is fuck pastebin

Reminder that a historically very fast page file is still a page file. Image is old and crappy but it applies just as much, if RAM speeds haven't outstripped nonvolatile storage by even more (we'd now be looking at ~500GB/s vs 4, for example). "SSD vRAM" will still act like very fast swap, anything you need to spend significant processing on will want to be in RAM.

24GB GDDR6 @ 560GB/s ( Samsung 12x2GB ), 18GB GDDR6 + 2GB GDDR6 Cache + 32GB~64GB SSD vRAM ( Up-to 84GB for Game ) and Dedicated 4GB - kind of reads like a wish list

A wish list would be 32 gigs of ram...

Ssd is fast enough to stream textures and world data to traverse at hundreds of km per hour .. thats why Sony demonstrated it. You keep the first needed data in ram .. then stream the rest ... it works like gigasampler does.

Gigasampler used ram as a disk cache to realtine play gigabyte samples on a machine with 128 meg of ram.

So what you are saying is, that it still won't be high end. So we are looking at a mid-low tier console at $500 that can only achieve the power of a 3060 GPU. Which looks good by today's standards. Honestly, I'd love to be surprised by the new consoles. But I'd still keep my expectations in check by expecting 8-9TF.

Absolutely it'll be huge for transversal, load times, and pop-in next gen, I'm just saying one should not get carried away with the "32GB~64GB SSD vRAM" - it's a fast swap, but still swap, RAM speed and capacity will still matter a lot.

It's right there in the quote "at the same speed" - both boost to 1730MHz - which I expect to be the speed used under performance tests

That is retarded. Different nodes have different voltage/power curves and different architectures have different frequency/voltage curves.

Now comparing outright performance is one thing as you can get perf/transistor and comparing Tflops to find perf/tflop is also useful but using the full fat die of one generation Vs the cut down version of another and saying perf/transistor has regressed when you don't even know how many transistors have been turned off is fucking moronic.

Thanks for posting, apparently some people can't read or tell the difference between dev-kit specs and retail model.
I hope its real but it has a couple give aways:
  1. Bandwidth is 14Gbps on a 320bit bus even though the 24/48GB configuration is only possible on a 384 bit bus
  2. They used Proelite's early die size estimate
I totally believe 9 TF of RDNA its why they are not talking tera flops so far this gen.
They haven't had a proper reveal yet... no point to casually leak hard numbers like that
Means not a big CU count. 36?
No less than 48CU
You wanna explain why 9.2 RDNA TF sucks?
For next gen games at 4k it sucks, it needs to be 11TF minimum
