No mans sky is not a bad game. its just not what was promised still

Hello games and Sean Murray promised us a space adventure, a bit of narrative and dynamic gameplay. didn't we hear about the in space, space-bases that you could go in and have complex economy, the factions that you can join or go against. space battles with allies and enemies and the multiplayer that was seamless.

what we got is a lot of stuff. but it all amounts to a minecraft clone in space really. it has a lot of stuff don't get me wrong but there is really no campaign or story of significance. and all the dynamic gameplay elements don't exist, you essentially have a resource management game thats kinda like minecraft in space

am not going to be one of these people that say "the game was turned around Hello Games are the good guys now, see they didn't abandon the game". well they neither gave us what they said they will. everyone on social media talking about sean Murray as if he was some sort of a Gospel legend or something.

its just a resource management game with building and things. it doesn't have a real mission system or anything like that. no real ending, none of the gameplay that was shown in E3 years ago before the game came out and it still has none of that.

You can have space battles. You can do it with your friends too? Not sure because I haven't experienced the.nuktiplayer aspect of it all yet.

There are space stations with some form of trading economy. How complex of a system did you interpret from interviews?

There's a bit of a narrative now for sure. It's night and day going from launch to how it is now.

Your disappointed, and I agree that the excitement got the best of Murray and he should have been a little more tight lipped of things. But I have a hell of a time connecting some of the dots that are peoples expectations and what was said during development.

I feel like this stuff does make it a bad game. Not to take away from the "experience" people have had, but come on, last I checked, it literally is resource management the game, I didn't even see what the carrots on the sticks were. New ships I guess? Just finding planets? I was so fucking bored. I feel like comparing it to Minecraft is more than a bit generous - you were able to craft quite a lot in MC, what can you make in NMS? It felt like I was literally just crafting required resources and mining for stuff to make the resources to get more stuff...I didn't see the actual point to all the busy work. The first time I played Minecraft, I think I spent hours mining and building a house, the creativity the game was allowing was really cool and I just got sucked in. In NMS, I was so fucking bored shooting rocks, I actually can't remember crafting anything interesting outside of parts required for my ship, so I could go fly somewhere else and mine more rocks.

I don't know what qualifies as a "complex" economy, but there is an economy. You can find items in plentiful supply in one galaxy and sell them for a profit in another where demand is higher. There's a tool that aids that playstyle, and you need higher-capacity cargo ships to make it worthwhile.

Factional rep exists, though the bummer is you don't lose rep with one faction for cozying up to another. By the lore, the Korvax ought to mightily distrust the Gek and its allies; but this doesn't come into play at all.

Multiplayer space battles though? Those exist, I've taken part in one. Sounds like it's about to be expanded, too.

For me it was only lacking VR.

I was ok with the almost empty universe, now we have so much more, and tomorrow will bring the missing piece of the puzzle: VR.

I love it. Loved it from day 1. Picked it up early on for like £5 the early days, got a lot of fun and value out of it.

I love cruising around listening to the sweet music and exploring and makes me happy

At release it really sucked because it mostly felt like a single player game (and was really boring on top) but now that they are focusing heavily on multiplayer it really has become a whole different game, I play it often with some friends and we have a really good time there.

It's the best game of it's kind until Star Citizen comes out anyway.

Played it at launch and had a decent time. I've picked it back up with each new update and every one gets better and better. The devs deserve every bit of flak for releasing the game the way they did but in my opinion they have more than shown that they are willing to put in the work to redeem that launch.

Why are threads like this still being made? CLEARLY, No Mans Sky is a game that most people (at this point) should be able to understand "why" millions of other people like it. If it isn't for you, then that's cool. But they've literally done more with this game at this point, than what they said you'll do.

maybe you should read the whole thing instead of being a jack ass and making a whole generalized statement

Ok? You state several things in that OP as not existing when they DO in fact exist in its current iteration.
Which several posts pointed out.
So, whats with that? Did YOU actually play No Man's Sky recently?

He doesn't do the best research when making his troll threads to counter people's excitement.

Welcome to a SlashBash thread.

I thoroughly enjoy No Mans Sky whenever I'm in the mood for it. Scavenging around trying to get some cool ship or build a base can be pretty satisfying, and the sensation of exploration in such an enormous "space" is unparalelled as far as I'm concerned. I always felt the economy could use more depth, so maybe that is something I can agree on. Though I would prefer way more storytelling I do not believe that that is something they ever promised and then under-delivered.

I agree with what has been said. In fact, this game pisses me off. The art direction is fantastic, the basic idea is catchy, but damn it... it's a fucking space resource management game.

I remember the interviews very well when they asked him the question "what are we doing in the game?" And Sean kept beating around the bush. It's a minecraft-like in space, that's what he could have said. The rest is accessory.

Well now, it's been over a year since I looked away, and maybe it's changed, but so much mess...

Tried it on the release day and left it because I thought it was missing a lot.
Yesterday I have it another opportunity and I've been addicted to it. The "story" could be better, missions could be more unique and not so repetitive BUT when all the base building and fleet-management aspects of the game kick-in it's really something.
I can't even remember what they showed at e3 but I find quite a good game now.

The game is, and has been for some time now, what was promised. It will never, however, live up to the completely unrealistic expectations that people had of the game prior to launch.
This is the truth. At this point it is what was advertised. BEYOND will make it more so.

My favorite version of No Man's Sky was the update right before NEXT. It was a perfect blend of micro management and exploration.

But now there is too much focus on building and trading. I feel like the game has lost it's original premise.

Sean stated that the game was to be a single player game about isolation and exploration. And that it would be very rare to encounter another person. This appealed to me a lot. And I loved the isolation feeling. But now there are aliens and outposts all over the place.

Sadly, you can't roll back the versions. The version I loved most is long gone. Forever :(

The problem of this game is the Mega Hyper Overrated (And Gaming Youtubers Gamers journalist give it like that this game kick ass) im glad that i never listen or trust in these "Creatures", And to be a modest project, it should not have been used with marketing as if it were AAA, in addition to the lies of the creators and how boring the game it is, I say who waited for it to be a Star Wars?

I think the only... only good is the "art", and thats all.

Besides, the launch price... was like a slap in the face.

Only think the Overrated marketing of the game, this give me angry.

You should give it a try when the new updates arrive. It might surprise you.

NMS is my chill game, where I can turn my brain off and just grind it out. I like its simplicity actually: exiting the atmosphere of a planet without a single load screen, docking at a space station, engaging hyperdrive then heading for the next planet to wander aimlessly in... It reminds me of a NES game I played called Star Voyager, which I never finished due to not knowing what I had to do, but back then with those primitive graphics I loved just engaging hyperdrive and landing on a planet, and now Beyond is going to give me exactly that in VR. Hurry up, Wednesday!

I’m looking forward to playing it. My only problem is they announce a huge update and say “Now on Xbox!” I think that I need to get it on Xbox. Now they announce another update and the creator says in an interview that they’re interested in the Nintendo Switch. Now I want to play it on the Switch! I’m definitely going to play it on Switch!

My only complaint was that they didn't really nail down a good gameplay experience when it came to fighting things. If they had done that, all the other collecting and grinding would have felt more worth it.

Yup my biggest problem with the game is the combat . Nothing like get swarmmed by what looks like geko/grasshopper things with ball sacs on their back and then get jumped by sentinels because you need to mine to recharge your tool. Really wish I could just turn it off

You're right, things that were promised aren't in the game. So I can fester over that for the rest of my life or just let it go and have fun playing. I choose to have fun playing.

Yea, you mean 99% of what Sean would say?

I loved my time and think it's amazing now, but it still hurts.

I love how whenever this three year old game gets positive press, despite that it has quietly been listening to it's fans and providing significant free updates, the haters come out of the woodwork.

NMS, Street Fighter V, and surely others I can't think of can never really get past the narrative of the first "impression". I think it's some combination of schadenfruade and clickbait culture - we're just passing around headlines and very few people in the conversation seem to know the story.

Final Fantasy XIV is the only game comes to mind that really overcame this. I think 'Beyond' might finally redeem the NMS crew in the "headline space", despite millions of people having has enjoyed the game for years.

What was OP promised?

When the game was being made, they showed it, and I was always like “what do you do in it?” It was obviously just a giant sandbox. Add mining, resource management, space travel that’s about it! That’s what they showed off pretty much.

Some people imagined all kinds of bullshit and still can’t get over their fantasies not being fulfilled

You were never completely isolated. Even in the early versions, spaceships flew by no matter where you were, not to mention the fucking annoying sentinels. In every planet was the same bullshit. 18 quintillion planets of sentinels and random spaceships constantly flying over you.

Sean Murray says any features you want in a game is already in NMS.

I asked him by email if the latest NMS update will include 50 player MP TDM mode at 4k/60fps and include night vision goggle mode, killstreaks, and a home base lounge where you can file your taxes through H&R Block during tax season.

He confirmed Yes.

Yeah I'm with OP. Sean lied about alot of things - everything shown is what should've been included by default in a game that costs the same as a triple A game.

If I had bought NMS which I didnt, and it took me 3 years to get the features I wanted - I wouldn't be happy. Sure they get points for continuous support but again that's the least the could've done after what they released.

If they support the game for another 2 years and push it past what it is now, I'll be willing to change my stance - otherwise fuck Sean and his lying ass.

I mean, some people act as if 16-32 players multiplayer plus fully featured VR mode were a trivial achievement and were always part of what should have come out/promised at launch... this is ridiculous.
