Whoa. For the first time after a very long time since the PS2 days PES is actually good and back to its glory and this thread's deserted. Crazy.

This game deserves a lot of credit and attention now. Especially when it's this good.

Edit: Oh, and please do yourself a favor and play it like you'd play football IRL. Don't play it like you'd play FIFA.

Only played a couple of games. Seems really good, but PES always is recently.

I´m not a fan of soccer games but in a few words if you want, which is the fifa playstyle?

Thanks

same old crap, terrible unresponsive movement, dumb AI teammates, defending dropping deep way too early, keepers who wont leave their goal, too many goals from passing INSIDE the box, speed is pointless, fouls for breaathing

This time I will be getting the legendary pack edition or legendary edition ...too long winded for me to add it to PES 2019

My biggest issue with PES last year was attackers not reacting with a sense of urgency to loose balls. It really stuck out like a sore thumb for me. I love PES, but sometimes players just don't respond (offensively or defensively) in an appropriate manner.

I wish they'd iron out some of those things.

Im loving all the little gameplay changes like the feints and being able to cancel a shot directly into a pass. I just don't like the weight of the game. It feels stiff and floaty at the same time.

Starting it up now. (demo). Shameful that the PC settings are the same as they were 10+ years ago. Resolution + windowed/full screen. That's about it.Pathetic. It's 2020 and no Konami, you're not getting a penny from me.

People always say this stuff when these games first come out .

Players are basically amateurs. They accept the ball the way an amateur would (bounces off them first) and turn with great difficulty. It feels like I'm playing with a character from Gears of War. Tank controls.

Fouls are a joke. Got a yellow card for challenging with the X button?

My defender literally let the ball pass in front of him so the striker could take his shot and score. It wasn't even a fast pass. But I know this game is a hard pass for me.

I bet most complaining about unresponsiveness aren't playing it properly. That's why I said play it like you'd play IRL. Don't play it like the ultra twitchy FIFA. Konami seems like they're going for the more sim approach this time, but also keeping the balance right.

Keepers are much, much better this time. They come out better and are more dependable. They've done 1-1 and close range saves I wouldn't have imagined happened in past few iterations. They're also not as floaty as they used to be. I'd even say they're not at all.

Not sure what you mean by speed is pointless. Do you mean you can't run past and away from players with a speedy player who's faster than his opponent? Because this is absolutely false. This is actually the first PES in a very long time where you can absolutely do it. I've went multiple times running from midfield to the opponent's box running past players and speeding. I don't see that rubber band effect at all.

And fouls, I'd say they're not perfect, sometimes given for the wrong reasons, but for the most part they're given correctly. I'd take this over the no fouls broken system we had the last few years. You should also learn to not keep the pressure button pressed. That would almost guarantee a foul. Kind of like how PES 5 was. Try and time it right to nick the ball off your opponent at the right time and you make many fouls. I've actually went many games without them.

I'd say it's all contextual. When you're receiving the pass, are you standing still, running towards it, etc. These things matter, in addition to the stats I'd say. Better than guaranteed to receive the ball glued to the player's foot every time with every player like an arcady game would. It all depends on what type you prefer.

When you play a higher ranked team though sometimes a simple pass will mess up or you can't control your player as there is massive lag. Its like your team stats drop to Sunday league pub team. Don't get me wrong i'm big Pesfan since PS1 days and Pes over Fifa anyday for me, but its just to blatant sometimes. I need to try this again though.

Thing is Pes game always changes from the demo.

Hmm. I honestly don't see it. Maybe because I play a slower game? I come at it like I'd imagine I would IRL. I feel like it's kinda more realistic in that way. It's definitely not as unresponsive as 2014 was.

Out of curiosity, what platform are you playing on?

I prefer consistency. And honestly, even in real life players accept the ball better and turn faster. I too am against an arcadey feel, but what we have here is difficult to be enjoyed in my opinion.
Close contact with your oponnent already slows you down enough - but here, you're slow to begin with. Everyone feels and plays like it's the 95th minute of the game.

Xbox, online being honest which Pes can always be dodgy, i was Arsenal other team Jueventus, seems to happen when Ronoldo is near you, Its always done this sort of trick which is cheap and annoying. I going to try again tho, offline.

Are you playing online ?

Oh, online. So maybe that's why. I only play offline. I'd only play online if it was lagfree and with like-minded people.

The running animation has always seemed weird to me - there is a little slowdown when they tap the ball in between a run and it that makes it look very slow and unnatural
Facial animation and quality are superb - yet jerseys are using textures from the ps3 era
Graphic settings are still not incorporated into the game - cmon Konami.
I like the new menu ( or at least I think it's new)
Graphically, it looks good at 4k.

every single aspect of gameplay with this game is perfect right up until you get into the attacking third, then its floaty keepers that get more hangtime than Jordan, stuck in the mud defenders that have zero sense of urgency and the power that you could whip a 40 yard pass with just up and leaves. I hate FIFA but i'm just disappointed in PES because it isn't far off becoming a really good football game but these problems have been persistent in the last 3-4 iterations i've played.

I used to love PES and has slowly gotten better, but it still suffers a bit from the ball pinging off everybody all the time
I actually think PES feels more arcade like than FIFA , My son Always says is that the game where you can score bicycle kicks all the time.

I've played a bit more now and here are my thoughts. Best digested with a cup of PG and a digestive:

1. The shots are back at Adriano level from the edge of the box. I hit a few with Bayern yesterday that were literally like missiles. If they had hit a player, I would have expected that player to be dead;
2. The default game speed is decent. Usually I knock it down to -1 by default but that actually feels a little too slow this year;
3. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the new tackling model, feels like they've moved to 'tactical defending' like FIFA but it just seems to be run into each other and see if the ball squirts loose in your favour;
4. The officials are way too generous giving fouls to the AI;
5. I'm not sure I like the new dribble mechanic either. Tricks and feints don't seem to be working as sharp or as fluid previously and controlled dribble doesn't seem to exist any more. It;s hard to beat players with a skill move. You can do a skill move while in the near vicinity of them and fool the AI from a mile away but in terms of creating space I don't think they're as useful. Stop-start dribbling seems to be more effective;
6. It's still too easy to score side footers from the edge of the box;

For me, PES is improving every year. Fifa on the other hand............ But i think they finally embrace the "Arcade" style with the inclusion of "Volta" (previously Fifa Street).

Everything you've listed (except 1) was a complaint for me going from 18 to 19. It's especially worrying that the gameplay might be even slower.

Oh, and how's the header conversion rate?
Do pacy players feel like they should?

PES is miles better in the graphical and gameplay department then FIFA, its not even debatable.

unfortunately i fear they will suffer with the sales due to the moronic name change this year.

PES stadiums look incredible, but their fan atmosphere is friggin dogshite.

Certain things PES is better than Fifa at, but players still moving a bit stiff for me puts me off big time. I hope they overhaul the animations on both games though for PS5/XB2 versions next year.

If Konami change the engine to Unreal Engine that's been rumoured, then it'll be truly interesting to see. But they need to sort out option files for Xbox users.

Yes. I did. However, there's a reason why goals like this don't happen three times in a game:

Header conversion rate isn't great. If you have a strong forward like Lewandowksi he gets in position and above his defender but you're still dependent on the right cross otherwise they just bounce over the bar. I don't feel fast, like the best I can muster is probably receiving the ball then a quick burst to whip a cross in or get a shot away before the defender catches up. But I never feel I'm in a foot-for-foot, edge of the seat last man type of race - and that's even on second highest difficulty against a poorer team.....

Aside from that the shielding and strength has been really emphasised. I feel like this is a bit like PES 5 if you can remember that far back. I think on comparison PES 2019 feels better to pick up. I actually prefer the user invoked shielding method in Fifa. When the ball is shielded it draws a foul like 65% of the time when trying to win it back which makes it a bit frustrating and stop-start. I platted PES 2019 and picked up Ffia 19 in a recent sale. I usually always buy PES but it feels like that 'magic' is missing this year. It always had goal variety and cross field play to trump Fifa but this year it just feels a bit ... flat?

And I'm not endorsing Fifa at this point, I haven't even played the demo and I really dislike the airborne ball physics like switching the play, crossing and the joyless, soul sapping repetitive goals or meta game but Konami has given them a free pass again, instead of pressuring. They are the Jeremy Corbyn of footy games at the moment. We'll see anyway, PES usually gets its patches around October/November that actually 'fix' the game but I don't know if I've got the stamina this year to wait.

Definitely paying attention to this years's edition, as a Juventus fan, and due to the new Juventus exclusivity deal who cut out Fifa for the next three years
Last PES I bought was 16, then Fifa
I'll take Fifa tho, but on Switch, absolutely smashed 18/19 editions and I'll do the same with 20, I hope in black friday to take both at a reasonable price
The gameplay this year is even better, Fox Engine is da bomb

They’ve been using UnReal for their mobile PES games and PES’s producer has said that next gen PES will bring in a new engine.
