Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I was looking at the dev kit, specifically that V shape cut out in the middle.

I was wondering, maybe they weren't going to use the number 5 for Ps5, but go with the Roman numeral V for the console. So it'd still be the Ps5 technically, but they use PlayStation V as branding.
Maybe PS5 looks odd with the S and the 5?
Obvipusly just pulling this out of my ass based on that devkit lol.
Just something I thought about.

Dunno, they probably won't fuck with their branding name. PS5 is easily understood and recognizable.

And then the Vita acronym.... PSV.

Vita lives, always.

Can someone come up with ANY reasonable thoughts on why Sony is going so far out of their way to make this funky looking Devkit? Why are they spending so much money on this design?

You got it, flaunt it?

Also, they are probably going to have similar cooling setup, just more refined. It won't be as "busy" in the final product.

It does scream 2GHz though.

Are there any leaks on the PS5 dev kit specs? I had dinner with a friend who worked with it and want to compare what he told me versus what is known.

I think last known are over 9.2TF (some guess 11-12TF), 2GHz GPU, 3.0-3.2GHz Ryzen, and then their proprietary SSD interface. RAM unknown.

Now you must spill the beans, you can't tease like that.

- First, that is a dev kit. To be honest, dev kit don't need to be good looking, just funtional.
- Second, dev kit are PC with similar specs than the final product. So, a third gen Ryzen PC cpu plus a Navi PC graphic card version... So, how can you eliminate heat from a dev kit with brute PC specs?
Now just look at that picture and the answer is there.

So... we're listening.

I know they don't have to look good, so that's makes my question even more important. Why not just throw it in a big square box and call it a day?

800MHz

911MHz in the Pro

The CPU was 1.6GHz and 2.13GHz in Pro.

Ah! That's where I was getting the 1.6 GHz number from. Thanks. So holy crap! The CPU in the PS5 may be over 3 GHz AND the GPU will be 2 GHz?!?! This is starting to sound purely insane. The PS5 will have our houses like....

Yea that’s why the alleged dev kit looking the way it does makes me think they’re really going for a 2GHz gpu

Again, this matter? Just need to be funtional. Only if that was the final product, so yeah. Otherwise, just care about the dev kit not overheating.

Not gonna happen, unless they want to pander to women for some reason.

Yet another reason it's not gonna happen.

PSV(ita) is a failed brand.

I know it's a little like apples to oranges but bare with me.

For example even a regular blower rx 580 can boost up to 1,4 GHz wheres similar part runs at marely 911 Hz on ps4 pro. That's like 35% drop in frequency comparing to regular garbage blower cooler on pc.

Navi boosts only up to 1,8 GHz on stock blower cooler. You need watercooling or great aftermarket cooler to maintain above 2 GHz . [consoles won't have anything matching those cooling solutions]

..and some expect to see navi clocked at 2 GHz on next consoles :messenger_confused: ? Not a chance.

I hear what you are saying, but some think this is EUV, not the DUV on the current Navi cards. That gives more clocking room.

Then there is this as well.

this took 20 minutes of digging. you owe me

Kits can be 2GHz testing, maybe final retail 1.8GHz max. Time will tell.

I dunno if this could be a good ideia because we already have a product with similar name.
PSVR - PSV

Just a little remind that 3DS and WiiU had such a problem with names. Here in Brazil was a problem for parents who want give their sons a gift. They don't know 'why' the name is confusing, maybe because Wii and WiiU are similar names and tough would be the same console, just like DS and 3DS. 3DS its not necessary a DS, but a modest update of the DS with '3D factor', but still people are afraid of buy the same console just by name.
Just imagine a country with the english its not the main language, so those names could be a little confusing. Putting numbers are very less problematic those days.

Ok, now we are talking.

It looks pretty awesome! Like one of those Futuristic fan-arts becoming reality.

Like it is recovering some of the DreamCast, NES, Sega philosophy, and making a clear distinction from the last itinerations of Playstation (maybe to make up for the diminishing returns)

I love it, I would gladly pay 500+ bucks for this lovely baby :messenger_relieved:

EDIT: Just saying, but I think too that is strange that they came with such an elaborate design for a Devkit, they always just put the hardware into a giant Box, and sent them.

I really hope it is a *near" final version

Maybe they are going to return to the PS1 or PS2 form and borrow inspiration from the Devkit, but still have it not be exact.

I like it except for the worthless video control buttons

I thought it was BS too but apparently it does have 2 GPU command processors to help with draw calls.
Was one old leak talking about oled panel just like those macbook? I dunno if was from the console inself or the dualshock 5.

Nobody would use playback buttons on the console
Imagine getting off the sofa and walking all the way to the console to pause the video , what year is this lol

I agree, but the oled concept its not so crazy. Maybe the guy who made those buttons was a bit excited, but the idea of using a oled panel for display console status its not that bad either. What I forget is, if is really the console or the dualshock the leak was talking about.

Ahh, ok.

Yeah, like people were confused by the Wiiu name.

Youre right, Sony probably won't rock the boat. The numbers have worked for them for 4 generations already. They won't mess with that.

there is no reason for a devkit to be that intricate in its design. that is the ps5 and it looks awesome.
actually it is and it's probably for cooling, and no final design won't be like that sony won't just patent theyr final design they keeping safe in secret, it's a dev kit.

we'll see, just know the box is done. even phil spencer said he had seen the scarlett box back at e3. these boxes are done.

From another thread.

look like this might have been closer to the truth than we thought

The clockspeed has been changing so some devs seen it at it's lower clock speed & said 8TF then devs seen it at 1.8GHz & said it was close to 13TF but now it's clocking up to 2Ghz & coming in a 14TF

54 x 64 x 2 x 1210 = 8.36TF

54 x 64 x 2 x 1830 = 12.64TF

54 x 64 x 2 x 2060 = 14.23 TF
