This is fucking huge, watching the Bear and Colts and this came out of fucking nowhere, wow. Wish nothing but the best for Luck in his future.

Damn.... this isn’t terribly too surprising, several young players have retired because they didn’t want to be cripple when they get old from injuries.

This is more of a big concern for the NFL in general and how players are getting injuries more often.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Giving up a QB spot for a possible super bowl contender must be hard. Luck was red hot during his first three years, just another young football player retiring early.

Wow, what crappy timing. If he would have given an inkling of this the Colts could have at least grabbed a QB in the first few rounds to hope to have a future successor. Some QB in this next FA class bout to get a big offer (that he should avoid). Was never a Luck fan (More so to do with the Colts doing Peyton dirty in a way), but I feel bad for the guy, owner is a piece of crap so I suppose this is deserved for him.

Someone in the front office leaked it ahead of when it was supposed to be announced on Sunday following the game. They leaked it midgame and he got booed off the field. Pretty ignominious end to the career of such a hot prospect.

I can absolutely understand why he wants out, but this could have been communicated to the team beforehand to not put them in such a precarious situation right as the regular season begins. So I get why they're salty about this. I also think he will regret this move. They are a legitimate threat anytime he's healthy, and especially this year. You can't be that good and not care about never winning a ring.

Is his contract guaranteed?

I remember when people were shocked about Barry Sanders suddenly retiring, yet he played 10 seasons - almost unheard of for running backs.

Colts could have nabbed Bridgewater too before the Saints picked him up.

Not cool of the Indy fans to boo the guy off the field - this does not strike me as a selfish decision on Luck’s part. It’s not like he could predict he’d get hurt again so soon.

I'm a Colts fan. This was one of the few moments in my life that I legit didn't even know what the fuck I was feeling. Still doesn't feel real, like my brain can't even deal with it. I tend to separate sports from "real life" really well, but I had a really hard time sleeping last night just thinking over it all. I'm the same age as Luck. I saw him getting in the league, I was there in the Manning debacle, I remember thinking about the future and how awesome it would be. Aside from some very bright and incredible moment, that future never happened and it hurts as a fan AND it makes me feel old. It's so weird.

Wish 12 nothing but the best, he was a baller and seemed like the best goofy dude ever.

The Colts wasted him

wow.

all that talent wasted due to injury and a incompetent front office

True but Grigson is long gone. Ballard has been doing a tremendous job and this is by far the best Colts team since somewhere in the Manning era. Irsay gets a lot of shit for his outspoken and flamboyant ways, but he's not as bad either. Luck just got the shit end of the deal for playing in the bad years of Colts management. I don't think it's what cost his career though. It's just his playstyle since college, he bodies people like he's a linebacker. Of course playing for the worst offensive line ever didn't help, it was just a mix of reasons.

Last season was so fun man.

Bit of a dick move to bail two weeks before the season, though.

Got to do what you need to do for your health. When you determine you need to quit, you quit right away. Nobody wants to have their spouse/partner wiping their ass when their body/brain is shattered and destroyed by age 50.

He was already out injured. Have to think he got news this week that the injury was worse than they thought or that the rehab on the injury was going to be long and difficult.

Been a Colts fan all my life but haven't really followed the NFL much here lately but this still hurts.

Colts are letting him keep the $25,000,000 that they owe him back. Seriously. The owner said he is pretty much giving up $450,000,000 in career earnings and I’m sure he’s made them 20x that 25 mill not to mention the obligation it puts on him to help the team out in some form or fashion in the future.

Also, the rumor is internally, the Colts are expecting him to come back from retirement.

When QBs are retiring due to heavy hits on their bodies, I can't imagine what running backs would look like. CTE ain't nothing to scoff at.

Pretty shocked when I heard this last night.

He was a great QB. At his best he was elite.

It sucks, as a fan, but I’m glad he’s walking away before piling up more injuries. Dude made a lot of money and is very smart. He’s a safe future elsewhere, coaching or commentating.

Same as with Gronk. I don't blame guys one bit for walking away with a working brain still intact and a buttload of money in the bank. Good for them

The real bummer for the Colts is this came a season too early. They could have tanked for Lawrence next year. Though many believe there will be at least 3 special QBs available this year.

Luck about to go on FOX news and talk about Russia conspiracy and how he worked with the Overstock CEO to start a romantic relationship with a Russian spy LOL.

Forget, it's Herbert, Tua, and who?

As for Luck, hope he does well in his next phase. The man gave his all and decided one day that it wasn't worth it. Also, judging by how the Colts said they wouldn't trade Brissett for a 1st a long time ago, I have a hunch this had been a possibility since before this offseason.

Shitty timing if you're the Colts though, no two ways around that.

part of the reason why RBs have such a short career window. most RBs are good for like 5 years until their knees give out
Knee problems are part of the issue too, but those helmet to helmet collisions and heavy body hits are far more devastating in both the short and long term.
