There was something else at play in the Insomniac acquisition , they were making VR games for Oculus and Price is good friends with Jason Rubin cause he used to work at ND. I think Sony were worried Facebook would buy Insomniac before them and wanted the preemptive strike.

Doubt they'd be able to continue making Spider man games if Facebook bought them.

Sony would be wise to go for From Software and Bluepoint studios.

One of those would be a much bigger deal than the other. Bluepoint is great at remasters and remakes, but unproven outside of that. They don't come along with the ownership of any big IPs unlike From with Dark Souls, Sekiro, 3D Dot Game Heroes and Elden Ring.

I hope not, Control on PS4 systems have garbage performance, why would want Sony waste money on a studio who is incapable to get decent performance on their games?

I'd assume From don't even own those IPs but the Kadokawa Corporation do, anything they made without it being in partnership with another publisher (like Bloodborne) after April 2014 definitely belongs to Kadokawa. So buying them might mean getting nothing too.

Control isn't going to sell much at all, especially after watching Digital Foundry's video. Frame rate is shocking at times. It might do OK on PC but I suspect most people will be waiting to pick up Borderlands 3 in a couple of weeks.

Except the talent.

Well sure but Bluepoint have shown that they have talent too when it at least comes to making games even if they're remakes. Shadow Of The Colossus remake is a technical wonder. Give them an IP to remake then tell them to make a new sequel and I'm sure they can do something decent. Sony could also buy them just for their remaster/remake capabilities.

Borderlands 3 frame rate will be completely shit also, mark my words.
It's going to be a nightmare to hit 60 in consoles.

All I would say is Sony already has enough first party western developers making games for them. I want to see more first party Japanese games from Sony.
Gravity Rush, as great as it is, didn't help convince Sony to invest in first party Japanese titles. Unfortunately, the market wants more western developed games. But I argue that Japanese game design philosophy is needed now more than ever. I rarely see Japanese games go down the GAAS route from what I know, which is refreshing to say the least.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
MS doesn't want them. Takes them six years to get a game out of the door, that includes both Alan Wake and Quantum Break's development time. And they didn't deliver what they promised.

I want MS to scoop up Bioware before they are sent to the EA graveyard.

Ms isn't exactly innocent in executing studios, just look at Rare.

Not even EA can beat SONY for Studio closers this gen. MS, SONY, EA aren't the best at that. Hopefully, Ubisoft will buy Remedy, at least they'll be safe then.

Sony has closed Studio Liverpool and Evolution ( :( ), MS has closed Lionhead and another studio I can't recall, EA has closed and ruined lots of software house... Come on you can't put Ms, Sony and EA in the same sentence.

That's exactly how it could change. If Remedy started making PlayStation exclusives they could focus on one platform and get additional support from Sony. If you look at all PS4 exclusives only Days Gone had performance issues and they weren't nearly as severe as in Control. The rest of the exclusives all performed flawlessly even on the base PS4 models.

Try SONY has closed down Studio Liverpool, Studio Cambridge/Guerrila, Evolution studios, Zipper Interactive this gen, to add to the likes of Big Ben, Incognito last gen. So let's not get on any high horse when it comes to SONY. Sony hardly any better than MS or EA.

Yeah I forgot some studios but same, Sony and Microsoft has done many errors but comparing them to EA is unfair IMHO.
Sony and Microsoft seems to have learned from their mistakes, EA keeps doing wrong things...
But I disagree more with your statement about Ubisoft: they wanna fit near every IP into their shitty open world template, I don't think it could be a good solution for Remedy; I think it's better for Remedy to stay indipendent, Sony has too many storydriven studios and Microsoft isn't interested at all.

Really? How many studios have EA shut down this Gen, given SONY shut down over 4 studios, I doubt EA is much worse TBH . If one wants to look at it, with no silly platform holder point scorning or EA bashing for the sake of it
Ubisoft has a better record of buying studios and keeping them in work. So if one wants the best for Remedy, then Ubisoft I guess would be the least bad option

Sony this gen closed only Zipper and Evolution IIRC, Psygnosis and Guerrilla Cambridge and Incognito were during last gen...
EA closed similar number of studios during its lifetime (Origin, Maxis, Blackbox and some more) but I fear Bioware will join this list soon...

Sony would be wise to go for From Software and Bluepoint studios.

I don't think Bandai Namco would allow Sony to buy up From Software, seeing as they publish From's games. Plus I don't think that would work out best for the Souls games or Sekiro.

Can probably see Bluepoint Studios tho, since they've kinda only been doing PS-related stuff for the longest time by now.

Guerrilla Cambridge was closed this gen, its last game was for Rigs for PS4 VR and I said Incognito was last gen BTW

Maxis wasn't closed but downsides and merged into EA Mobile, I'm pretty sure they still operate
You might not want to accept it, but SONY isn't better than EA or MS when it comes to studios closers or layoffs.

Remedy is a very unique company. I wouldn't be surprised if they were purchased by Sony or one of the other bigger fish. However, I like that they are independent and make very unique games.

True, their highly narrative heavy single player third person games seem a natural fit in the WWS portfolio.
On other hand they could be a natural acquisition for a company who doesn't have that dna too, to expand the sheer variety of their offer.

It's a studio acquisition that would make sense in a lot of ways. I think that affinity would play a major role anyway so I believe in a move from Sony rather than Microsoft (the other company that, I think, would be interested in that kind of experiences, even if for different reasons - i.e. portfolio variety, game pass, collab. history).
I think that the partnership with Microsoft didn't work out too well, Alan Wake and Quantum Break franchises aren't big IPs and essentially were dropped from the publisher so I don't think Microsoft would be too mad about losing Remedy for good.
Sony oh other hand, with PS4 showed a certain "touch" with single player third person experiences, they are in a position where an high budget Remedy game could work financially and commercially. It more about environment and ecosystem, and I think that Sony could be a good partner for Remedy. I honestly can't think another videogame company with a portfolio more suitable than Sony for Remedy.

Right now I'm a believer, but let's see

PS: Despite the freedom of indipendency, a true AAA blockbuster budget game from Remedy isn't easy in our time

I feel like the same reason they would make a good fit (third person single player) for Sony is the same reason Sony shouldn't buy them. I feel like Sony could use a bit more diversity in their portfolio. Horizon, Uncharted, Detroit, God of War, Days Gone, Bloodborne, The Last of Us. All great games. But would it kill them to do something a little different. Like these are the heavy hitters. Could we spice it up a bit. I'm afraid Remedy would become another Bend or Sucker Punch style studio. Or worse become like Ready at Dawn that made a big budget flop and is no longer taking those kinds of risks.

Where I could see Remedy fitting in well is with Take 2 or maybe even under the Bethesda umbrella. I could even see them partnering up with Microsoft. However, I agree with you that it would be a harder sell. Mostly because Alan Wake and Quantum Break didn't exactly set the world on fire.

You know what Sony should do ? They should ressurrct some of their own Studios and get old franchise a come back.

they could give big money tô London Studios to release Getaway 3 for PS5.

I was hyped as fuck to that Getaway 3 demo on PS3 but we got nothing out of It. Eight days also looked cool as hell back then

or both...

I'd only like that studio to do The Getaway 3 if they actually can do it, if not I'd rather Sony get another trusted team that does open world games to take care of it, but regardless would LOVE a return to The Getaway. With how popular open world games are, I'm shocked we didn't get one this gen.

kretos kretos They should go for both.

Not sure why folks love either ors. Sony has made remakes, remasters and brought back old IP while still buying new studios you know.
