iPad Pro external storage question?

So, I was wondering... With iPadOS, is it possible to buy a USB Flash Drive to store movies and/or TV shows and watch them directly from it without transferring it to the iPad Pro? I could only afford the 64GB iPad Pro, so I am looking for ways to get more storage for my content.

Thank you for the help.

Yes, there are USB memory sticks with both lightning and USB connectors on them: https://www.sandisk.com/home/mobile-device-storage/ixpand

You plug in the USB side on a PC/Mac, transfer your movies or photos.
You plug in the lightning side on an IOS device. You may need the manufacturer's app to access the files.

For example, in my case, my dongle doesn't have any storage, it is just a converter for less than $10.

I use my DSLR camera to take photos. I then use this dongle/app to look at the photos on my iPhone. It doesn't need to copy the files.

Also, I can actually use the SD card as a destination for any photos/movies taken on the iPhone (write directly to the card).

So, the lightning connector is the same as USB-C? I'm stupid, I know. Lol.

Edit: Apparently it's not the same thing, so would I have to buy some sort of dongle for this to work with my iPad Pro? It only has USB-C.

Assuming you have the latest model ipad pro... the Ipad pro 11 has usbc, you will be able to use external attached storage, depends on the type of storage interface, but youll likely use a dongle of some sort.

My bad, I didn't realize the iPad Pro was USB-C only. In that case it'll probably be easier to get a product that does something like the iXpand.

Would you recommend any of them? I had seen a double sided SanDisk USB-C/USB 3.0 stick that could work, but I don't know what you can use to play files directly from the external storage and what you can't. BTW, I do have the 3rd Gen, 2018 latest model 12.9" iPad Pro for future reference.

you might wait until the feature is available and some people post results (reddit).

I feel like any major brand of storage should work just fine though, you could just get a usb-c to usb-a dongle and try out anything you have laying around the house
