Made in China | Did you notice a decline in quality of electronics?

For instance, my recent TV had a broken foot. My former TV that lasted more than a decade was also far better built.

My recently purchased Logitech speakers have visible scratches over them.

Hell, even my Nintendo Classic consoles had some visible deficiencies; minor scratches (and a faulty HDMI cable).

Has the formula quantity and speed > quality reached it peak, and is it now responsible for crap consumer goods?

What are your thoughts?

Made in China has never been a sign of quality. It's usually a sign of cheaply made products.

No doubt. That's why I'm quite annoyed by the outsourcing of all the production to China.

Still have a old, secondary SONY Trinitron TV (I use for old consoles), and it says: "Made in Japan". It's more than two decades old now.

Always buy Japanese, instead. Honda cars, Yamaha motorcycles, Sony consoles, cameras, electronics, whatever - best bang for your buck in terms of lasting quality.

China builds plenty of quality components. They, being firms like Foxconn, also build to spec by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer desires components to break sooner rather than later, the price reflects it. Blame the manufacturer for cost cutting, and less so the skilled labor.

yeah don't buy cheap shit from China, like Xboxes, lol.
Major Japanese electronics companies include Akai, Brother, Canon, Casio, Citizen, Fujifilm, Fujitsu, Hitachi, JVC Kenwood, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Nikon, Nintendo, Olympus, Panasonic, Pioneer, Ricoh, Seiko Group, Sharp Corporation, Sony, TDK, Toshiba and Yamaha.

Anything electronic I buy like Sony or Samsung when it's possible. The build quality is always good and I've never had an issue where a simple replacement didn't solve my issues.

Even cars, all I will own is Toyota or Honda cars. My lawnmower is a Honda as well.

China has and always will make cheap products.

You mentioned Nintendo, but all their hardware has been made in China since the Wii. Just because a company has their headquarters in Japan, doesn't automatically mean its made there. Any coincidence that the build quality of the Nintendo Switch is abysmal, and why there is this widespread issue of drifting joy-cons? I like the Switch, but I'm not a fan of the actual hardware quality, nor of the previous consoles up until the GameCube for that matter. It's cheap rubbish created to "reduce costs" (fill pockets).

Well yeah, I know, I just copied that quote from an article. I didn't mean to single Xboxes out, just taking a jab. I own one, lol.

Uhh, no. My Huawei mate 7 still going strong years later. My TEAC tv still going strong. My xbox, switch and ps4 still going strong. etc. My computer still going strong, my mouse, keyboard, headphones still like new years later. All parts from china.

For example, Gamer's Nexus did a generic psu study and it turns out many generic $30 psu's outperform high value corsair stuff, i.e all produced by great wall electronics except the generic stuff has received more revisions than branded stuff hence its more efficient than stuff with labels which is slower to change.

Pretty much 90% of the things you have in your house right now is "made in China". People talking about this as if they are choosing to go or not go to a Chinese market and get something cheap. Your $1200 iPhone...mad in China. $6000 iMac...made in China. Car parts, furniture, collectable statues, kitchen ware etc...ALL MADE IN CHINA. They dont use cheap material, they use cheap labor. If your phone was made in the states it would probably cost $2000.

It's closer to 99%.

Almost all electronics are made in China, regardless of the country of the company with the brand logo in front. Most other finished products are made in China or contain parts made in China. The greatest transfer of wealth and power in mankind's history has occurred right under the noses of the West, when they basically gave China control of the world by letting China manufacture everything. It is no longer possible to build a factory in any other country on Earth which can manufacture a phone, because the entire supply chain from raw materials to finished display panel exists only in China.

The only way to avoid made in China is to go into a forest, build your own log cabin from the trees you cut yourself, and live off the land by fishing and hunting with the tools you made yourself.

On the up side, everything being made in China means that everything people believe about "Made in China" is actually wrong. So I guess there's that.

China makes good and bad products. Apple, Microsoft etc buy their stuff from China but it is regulated.

China will take money from any Tom/Dick/Harry under any or no regulation.

I would say that if the bigger companies drop the quality of their own products in China then it will be picked up in that Countries Product rights and regulations.

If something is not made in China, it could have the regulations but it'd cost far more for companies to mass produce so they stick to China and India who will do anything for a low price, the cost in quality is from regulation laws to pass it in said country of export. (I.e: Europe and the US have stringest quality standards so have to pay a little more to get it right in China)

All in all, the price you pay for somethibg reflects in the price the company is willing to pay for manufacture.

Sorry for the rant, but Chinese Goods doesn't always equate to bad, the middle man is usually the culprit (usually sellers from China or Companies that go for quantity over quality)

I work in consumer electronics manufacturing and I can tell you that it is the company selling the products that is the cause of the lowered quality. In the past decade they have become more price point focused and all they care about is hitting THAT pricepoint and maintaining THAT margin. There used to be for small and medium companies quality inspectors on staff to inspect the goods before they left the factory in China. But cost cutting got rid of those guys and they were either replaced by Chinese inspection service companies or just relied on the factories own internal QC.
Basically products need to look good enough, last just long enough but make sure any review outlets were given good versions of that product.

It really sucks as it is kind of cutting jobs for the global market doing this. :(

What does your job entail if you don't mind me asking? I do graphic design but they wish to outsource my job to another company which doesn't care about our QA.

Quality control but more often product management.
