Kojima warns people who are already interested in buying Death Stranding to not watch the upcoming TGS demos

I think this is the wrong move for Kojima. How are you gonna leave us in the dark for this long and then let the cat out the bag when we are so close to launch? Those who are interested, like me, will buy this regardless. For those who are on the fence, will hear from people like me once we discover it's majesty and then they will go buy it.

Ok...truth-telling time...
I don't have the self control to not watch this TGS showcase. It's 49 fuckin' minutes. Why are you ruining this for me?

Of course I'm bitter. I want a proper Splinter Cell.
That sub par Chaos Theory rip off that Kojima made isn't cutting it.

Chaos Theory rip off? That game's pretty different to CT, Kojima never really focused on Light & Shadow stealth until MGSV and even in it it's just one aspect of the system's equations to calculate the player's final camo index.

As some who utterly dislikes the Metal Gear series, The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are the closest thing to actual stealth games Kojima has ever made and thus the only entries in the series I actually don't hate.
If he focused more on polishing the gameplay and spent less time pretending to be a writer with those horrendous narratives he might have something worthwhile in his hands.
I'm honestly eager to see what Konami can do with the Metal Gear license without the albatross that is Kojima.

Really? Your opinion of MGSV's gameplay is that it needs more polishing? In comparison to what exactly?

and spent less time pretending to be a writer with those horrendous narratives

I'm one of the few people who actually really like MGSV's story and even I will grant Kojima spent a lot more time on the gameplay than he did in the story for this last entry.

DEM's FiGhtin Werds!

I loved both MGS and Splinter Cell. They are both excellent franchises. I am a bit butthurt that for the past 2 years people have hinted at a new Splintercell and we have nothing. Then Gamestop has some listing of nightvision goggles to get me all hot and heavy again.

You can’t be serious. If you’re serious then this is the stupidest thing I ever read. You can say all the shit you want about MGSV and I’ll back you up but dissing the gameplay? Nah, you don’t deserve playing games with superb gameplay sorry

he is probably doing this cos Konami released a lot of MGSV's story as "trailers" to the public after they fired him, and people ended up being underwhelmed with the game, cos they had already seen many of the story cutscenes.

it is funny that he's saying this about the gameplay tho. hah release a bunch of cutscenes but don't watch the gameplay. classic Kojima.

I've preordered the collector's and will be ALL in on ALL footage. PUT IT IN MY VEINS!

Really though, I hope it's a solid experience.

The problem here is the guy can't find a balance between showing too much, and showing nothing

We are at - 2 months before launch, and The only things we know for sure are the supposed final title, and The actors
Not a normal situation for a 70$ game imo, unless the players have a shitload of money to spend freely
And knowing Kojima loves to show A and make Z, this gameplay sadly is a must see before buying
And believe ne, I'd love to go blind, but...

I have to agree fully with Mista, of all the flaws mgsv has, the gameplay is the one who has no flaws at all, even thinking about one for hours I couldn't find any

Best gameplay ever for a stealth game, and among the top 5 gameplay ever for sure

The average person isn't going to see this "warning". I will not seek it out, but if it passes my way, it's whatever.

Its a game though. You can't really hide what it is if you are showing it.

MGS2 is the classic example, and that only worked because all the surprise was is the character you're playing as.

Throughout the build, Kojima has hooked our attention with mystery. Which is fun for a lot of us.

When we see what the game actually is, the mystery basically is gone because we're just going to compare it with other games. "Oh, its like this crossed with this" Observations that may be accurate and relevant, but also reductive as hell.

My feeling is like the true game is in the Hades, where all the war, hallucinations, horror-ish and action moments will take place, will be some sort of MGS meets Silent Hills to make us shit our pants for exciting or jump scares
And We'll play some mech war action too

And Kojima basically has only shown one gameplay among 3-4 different possibilities in DS
He was trying to convince us the game is a delivery - with - action and difficulties, baddies and obstacles in the middle

Normally I would say I'm not watching, but yeah who am I kidding I'm going to watch in the end.

I really want to see boss battle gameplay, I've always liked bosses in MGS.

I've only seen the 2 trailers after it was announced. The beach one, and the one with mads in the sewer. I pretty much knew I was buying it so I stopped paying attention to it so I can be as surprised as possible.

If I see a trailer and know I want to see it or play it I will avoid it completely until I do see or play it because I fucking hate spoilers. And we live in a spoiled society now. Jesus even trailers spoil shit in them and give stuff away, then you have people who dissect and go over shit and talk about it so much they spoil stuff. It seems like everyone wants to know everything before hand, like they want everything spoiled which I don't understand.

I never got around to avengers endgame. I bought the blu ray steel book and still haven't watched it and I don't know a damn thing about it because I avoid reading about it that much. Of course not using Facebook or social media helps a lot.

I'd love to go in blind with all video games but sadly these days, we cannot always trust in quality anymore. I'm happy to go in blind once I know it has all round great review scores. I'm not taking a risk buying something that ends up being crap.

Kojima's always playing 4D chess. 10 years from now someone will be writing a dissertation on how Norman Reedus is gaming journalism and the BB's are cancel culture.

I wasn't planning on watching it anyway. Feel like I already saw more than I wanted between all these trailers. I think I even skipped the last two major trailers. Been several years of just sitting around and waiting.

I learned on FFXV that watching trailers for that long doesn't help your enthusiasm, and only ends up hurting it in the end. It was actually pretty easy to skip so far, haven't seen much on it at all.

I get what you are saying, but man, how did gamers ever survive the 80's and a lot of the 90's? Even without demos. We had a short paragraph and 3 to 4 screenshots the size of a postage stamp if we were lucky. :pie_roffles:

Funny enough one of the deciding factors for me back then(I was just a kid) was the art, like the cover art on the game case, that and I had friends who had games so I’d also play them before asking my parents to buy it.

I do remember the old PSM magazines during the late 90’s when the PS1 was released and the demo discs.

I first played MGS back in college, around 2009. Afterwards, I always regretted I had not played it when I was younger, when the experience was fresh for everyone.

I just ordered a PS4 yesterday. I've got Catherine to play now, but I am not going to miss another MGS at its start. I hope it is as special as I think it will be.

Nothing can prepare you for the very first time you boot the disc and hear this:

brian0057 brian0057 I just hope for your sake that the next Splinter Cell doesn't end up becoming shit because Ubisoft. You know I love you and Splinter Cell but you can't be hating on Kojima 24/7, dude. Berieve me when I say that Love > Hate.

I’m going to watch the whole play through on YouTube anyway. So I’ll watch the demo. The previous showings aren’t promising at all. From the previous trailers the environment is extremely bland at times. Its lacking style and graphics quality.

This game needed this last trailer and its not spoiling anything. It actually finally explains what is the point here. That is not a spoiler or someone being pushed to reveal it ahead of time. Spare me the "stranding game universe" bullshit of explaining a game to me. I obviously dont want to see a 1 hour gameplay trailer before buying but I do want to know wtf the game is about and that is what the trailer does.

Kojima should not have given your ass the time of day in MGS2.

SMH, talk about being ungrateful to the one that fed you white artificial blood.

After what they did to my boy Fisher in that mobile game, I'm expecting the worst from Ubisoft for a theoretical new Splinter Cell game.
Just like I'll never get a proper Thief game as long a Square Enix owns the IP.

You have hope, Square Enix greenlit HITMAN (2016) and that game is the best entry in the franchise. Sure, they axed the studio and liquidated the rights, however both the community and the devs are happier for it now. And that came after Absolution, which was a travesty for the franchise. Thief's soft reboot has already happened... Maybe next title is the one.

I gave in and watched the footage. Nothing shown was super original or new. Story may be and the way he may bring the gameplay elements together in one single game, but other than that so far you won't get spoiled by much in the gameplay demos.

Oh, HITMAN was superb and HITMAN 2 was even better but I give more credit to IO Interactive than to Square Enix for those titles.
What hurts the most about the Thief reboot is that Eidos has been proven capable of making superb immersive sims as they've demonstrated with the two Deus Ex sequels.
And then Square shelved Deus Ex in lieu of a BS Marvel license game. I have no faith in them whatsoever.
