The Game Awards 2019 will take place on December 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, show organizer Geoff Keighley announced. Tickets are on sale now at AXS.com.

Here is a message from Keighley:
Over the past eight months, I’ve quietly traveled the world to talk with the creators who inspire me. When we sit down, I ask a simple question. “Why do you keep creating?” No matter what happens in our lives or in the world, the act of creation is a deeply personal, spiritual, and fulfilling pursuit, filled with sacrifice and challenge, but fueled by the opportunity for impact. At their best, games make us feel alive.
Today, I am happy to share the date for The Game Awards. Thursday, December 12. This year’s show will celebrate the act of creation, as I turn the stage over to a group of visionary teams selected to share their new projects with you.
I’m honored to be given this platform to celebrate our shared passion on a global scale. You’ll hear much more in the coming weeks about our plans for the fifth anniversary show. It will be very special.

It gives gaming a soap box. Otherwise, what else is out there? Retail stores? Arcades are long gone. Have you ever walked inside a GameStop and felt like everything they were saying on GameStopTV was complete BS, made up just to sell a product? You don't have a face to gaming. You have a marketing person trying to sell you a game. The award show may be bias as hell, but it resembles a better side to the industry than just buying a game.

Last year's show was too overhyped but this time i expect better announcements and trailers. GoTY isn't a mistery, we already know who's gonna win

I'm more curious about who will get nominated for GOTY. In my mind RE2 and Fire Emblem make the list but do you think a bunch of old American game devs will allow a remake of a 20 year old game and an anime strategy RPG on that list?

Because it's fun and many of us gamers like it.

Yea I love it as well. I dont really get the hate. And also.. The bigger it gets the more awesome reveals we see. unlike the oscars where it aint a thing of showing new trailers. Here at the game awards its an awesome addition. I loved some of the suprise announcements last year.
That mortal kombat one was awesome.

And its great that we have 1 big award for game of the year thats getting more and more respected each year. And we have had some great winners over the years.
Witcher 3, Zelda, God of war,

Lol, you guys... I'm quite skeptical by nature, but we get to know who the judges are for this award. I don't think Geoff gets to just pick something of his own.

The hate is weird. It's like, bro you are on a video game forum complaining about why a video game award ceremony exists. How does a person that types 100 posts a week in the Gaming Discussion threads, can't understand why the Gaming Awards exist?

Yeah, I don't really feel much when all the awards from a random gaming site is just staked up in cumulative lists. At least this gives a real ceremony.

Witcher 3, Zelda, God of war,

Indeed. Aside from the MP and Steamer BS (though I'm sure someone out there likes that stuff) I really enjoyed last year. Mainly in it for the reveals but still. Gaming is big enough that a broadcast event doesn't seem like a burden tbh.

2014 - Dragon Age 3
2015 - Witcher 3
2016 - Overwatch
2017. - Breath of the Wild
2018 - God of War
2019 - ???

I bet Doom.

Shadowbringers or Sekiro.

Unfortunately, Shadowbringers would be lucky to get a music or multiplayer nomination at an event like this lol. It mostly focuses on popular singleplayer cinematic games.

Agreed on Sekiro being a strong contender.

I think they nailed it last year

And ultimately games and developers deserve something like this.

While it’s a bit of a marketing ploy I really do like the mix of celebrating the year that’s been and showing what’s to come for gaming

Hope we get some next gen teases

RE2 is totally a lock for a nomination. Media outlets showered it with awards at E3 2018 over games like Spidey (which was nominated later at TGA).

I don't see FE in the list, because of what you mentioned.

I bet Doom.

That list is depressing, it took a japanese game being damn nearly unanimously considered as a masterpiece for it to win. The bias is real.

Nintendo have had a banger of a year but I can't see much contenders for this year's GOTY. Unless something amazing goes wrong it should be death stranding.

Hope Astral Chain gets a nomination though. Resident Evil 2, DMCV for nominations?
Would love to see Fire Emblem get one but you know it won't.

I predict Death Stranding having a James Cameron's Titanic-style avalanche of statuettes and an emotive and sober homage to Kojima's career (?)
