Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT2| Y'all Need to Calm Down (Ultimate)

Finally onto the start of Shadowbringers and finished 4.56. Needless to say, I love what they've done with the continuing antagonists and each of their paths lol.

Though I'm a bit bothered by who's narrating the starting cutscenes since I play female WoL. Unless that's not WoL?

It's not your character but you will be surprised when you know who is narrating (still gives me chills thinking about it).

One vague question, with ShB done, does it feel like this saga is coming to an end within the next expansion?

There will be at least two expansions more since the level cap raises by 10 every time. So naturally they wouldn't stop at 90 but would go to 100.

Oh I only mean this current story arc. There's no way they're stopping the whole game haha

garlemald should be next and then some other expansion dealing with ascians?
Yeah, people have long been expecting the Garlemald region to come about at some point.

eden raids are so good

lot of chills coming in from the music too

went in blind to the normal ones and made out alright. takes a bit to learn the tankbusters and magic aoe spells.

Will have to hit up youtube before going into anything savage or ex related.

The Scion vs Ascian stuff is likely for the whole game's existence. But yea I could see them finally concluding the Empire conflict next xpac. They can only do the "multiple nations rise up against empire" story so many times. We already got that in spades for ARR and Stormblood.

Pretty much. I heard Yoshi-P joked about 7.0 being set on the moon lel

He prolly was joking but honestly the moon is 100% going to be a level since it was a major part of FFIV's final act. Whether it will be a small area for some story battle, a postgame raid, or an actual setting for an expansion I dunno.

He wasn't joking. Remember the post-credits scene for Heavensward? It is strongly implied that Zodiark is located on/in the moon

As for the question of where the next two expansions will take place, Garlemald is essentially required for the story so that leaves only one in question... I'm hoping for the New World (as hinted in the Blue Mage questline) or Meracydia.

The final moments of ShB drops so many lore bombs that I don't think they can solve everything in one expansion.

If you mean the "ShadowBringers saga" yes, it feels like it ends when you finish the current Last Quest (ShadowBringers) and something "new" is about to begin.

The Garlemald and whatever was established from 2.0 basically. Of course, nothing new introduced unless that's to be dealt with in the immediate future.

Alphinaud is a better healer than a majority of this games population...
Also, got chills when you first become the WoD after spreading defeating the first Lightwarden and spreading Darkness to Lakeland. Love that music

I imagine the only thing that Shadowbringers has left to tell in future patches are
how the scions get back to eorzea and their bodies. will the exarch/graha have to die for them to transfer?
what are they gonna do with ryne? do they find a way to transfer her as well? will the eden storyline have her be the leader of some new civilization?
will the warrior of light seek out to fight/rejoin his/her counterparts in the other worlds?

Finished up to:
Killing the Lightwarden of Ahm Araeng. That Thancred/Minfillia stuff emotionally drained me. Such an epic solo duty, that was one death fake out I'm glad happened since I never want him to die. Been getting the feels in small doses in the first half but I see it's kicked up a notch in the 2nd... gee thanks. The lore bombs about the world and Zordiark have been crazy too. So much to process.... and poor Ardbert with being unable to save those people when Eulmore attacked. Been loving it since quest 1 though! Il Mheg was so pretty.

I'm surprised at how much personal time your WoD has. Especially with Ardbert, it's nice bonding time and how this time around things do have a grave toll on you. Onwards to maybe the end? I have to level 78-80 first!

REMEMBER TO DO THE ROLE QUEST WHILE LEVELING SHADOWBRINGERS!!

The MSQ LVL80 quests requires at least 1 complete Role Quest! So go find it (it's at the cristarium, very easy to find them, the 4 role quests are close to eachother).

Also completing the role quests will unlock free lvl80 gear on THE blacksmith.

Damn...
Beat Vauthry/Innocence (which was difficult af) but the cutscenes that followed after were nutty. I knew it was Graha' Tia but still made me choke up. I'm REALLY happy with how involved you are and the personal stakes for your character specifically for this story.

Fitting Ardbert is the one to cheer you up. :)

Onto the final few quests tomorrow!

The final trial is easyer than Shinryu but harder than Thordan . You just go there and have fun and enjoy xD

I'm curious about jumping back into this after hearing so many great impressions about the expansion content. I'm sure this has been asked a ton already, but:

1. What's the best way to get back into the game? I have an existing account with like a Lv. 30 gladiator from around launch. Should I buy the expansions and re-up a subscription or just start up a new account with some kind of complete package/free 30 days? Any deals going on?

2. I will need to solo for the most part while leveling. Are there any classes that are particularly suited to efficient solo leveling?

Just jump back into your old character, I say. At level 30 there isnt much to relearn. Maybe a do a few side quests just to get a feel for the game mechanics again.

No class is better than any other class for leveling by any significant margin. You will level just fine doing the story content + job quests every 5 level. Whenever you find yourself needing a level to progress, you have something in your menu called a duty roulette that will provide tons of exp just for doing a randomly selected dungeon.

Finished Shadowbringers... no words to describe that last run. Goddamn.
Having the main theme play during a key moment is my favourite Japan trope.

So...
When Hades saw you as an Ascian... does that heavily imply you're from that era??? The rogue on from his enchantment also implied it that you and Ardbert are one in the Capitol. Seto also said we have the same soul...

it's very implied that the WOL was a member of the 14th council and very close friend of Emet Selch. It's also very implied that we were the ascian that was against sacrificing more lives to Zordiak, abandoned the council and helped summoning Hydealyn. We are an original Ascian shattered 14 times, every time a shard rejoins the Source we become more "complete". Arbert was one of our Shards (same soul) and rejoined with us so we became even more powerful and could handle the Light of the Sin Eaters. Also we are becoming more "Ascian" the more complete we are. That's why Emet Selch could see an Ascian silouette in us.

Damn so the pieces fit as I figured. When they talked of how the 14 may become 13 and how the rogue Ascian could also feel you're one and the same... that has big implications. Doesn't that mean both Darkness and Light are our element source? especially when rejoined?

Also guys, any questline I should tackle now? I know Eden is one of them but any others that are important supplements?

Our element is Light because we and our 13 shards are tempered by Hydaelyn. Hades/Emet Selch was Darkness because he was tempered by Zodiark.

The Eden questline is the most important as it directly connects with the ending of the MSQ and also other past questlines like what happent in the 13rd world (also known as "The Void").

Other stuff to do is unlocking the Expert Dungeons and talk with Mistrel's so he unlocks the Extreme modes of the trials.

Ah right, it would have changed after the summoning Hydaelyn, though this still goes against the Scions MO so it'll be interesting to see what goes on. Elidibus' comment about pitting us against a WoL is also interesting. I wonder if that means we'll see the other shards and eventually be reconnected or not... I want to know what mask and title we had lol

Aight, I'll tackle Eden! and yeah I gotta go back to Stormblood and tackle the optional dungeons and trials, too haha. If Eden is the only storyline one like Crystal Tower, I'll do it asap.

We have already seen other Shards of the WoL :) We have seen the WoL of the 13th world, also called The Void. Elidibidus saved him when that world was destroyed. When you finish all the Role quests you unlock a new quest where a new truth is brought to light. There's a LOT of "Spoilers" here in this Reddit

:O something for the future then. That just makes me want to work on all job roles and complete them myself now lol.
I'm a bit confused though, I thought The Flood was a condition to cause the Rejoining and cause The First to shatter thus causing the Eighth Umbral Calamity? at least from Emet Selch and Graha's explanation mid game this was one option for them. I'm probably getting it mixed up though.

In order to cause a calamity in the Source, and therefore a Rejoining, one of the shards have to be on the brink of destruction but not completely destroyed. When they say "in the brink of destruction" they mean an unbalance of one of the elements of that world close to a critical point. When that happens and then they cause mass damage in the source Hydealyn absorbs the unbalanced shard to "cure" herself.

In the 13th shard the ascians caused a flood of darkness that emptied the world of aether and let it useless. Arbert and his friends did the same in the first by accident but with a Light flood. Lucky for everybody they could ask for Hydealyn's help and Minphilia stopped the flood before the world was completely void. The Flood is NOT a condition for the rejoining, in fact Emet Selch was helping you because they need you to save the First so they can later use it for a future try of rejoining.

Ah yes I did mix it up regarding the flood, thanks for correcting that. :messenger_tears_of_joy: Now I wonder if some of this will be addressed in the 5.x quests or not. Zenos learning of the truth complicates a lot of things.

What is Eureka anyway? Worth tackling?

Eureka is an island that suddently disapears during the last cutscene of 2.0. It's a place where your character comes back to lvl1 (while it keeps all your max lvl skills) and you have to cooperate with other players to survive and level up while advancing areas and killing bosses. Let's say it was a Game inside the Game. It's the place where we unlocked the Stormblood relic weapons and armors.
The intenction with Eureka was to recover the FFXI feeling where players couldn't play solo because every single enemy was too hard to be dealt alone.

Lol holy shit. I decided to go do the Four Lords questline in Stormblood and the Byakko trial is nuts: Skydiving as you're launched into the stratosphere mid-battle in a massive typhoon as you dodge attacks while dropping down.

Fun af.

JORMBO

Darkness no more
Eureka is some of the worst content I have seen in an MMO. At this point it’s only useful if you want any of the glamour items. Even then it is such a long grind it is not worth it.

royox

Member
Eureka is some of the worst content I have seen in an MMO.

I think is a very good idea but poorly executed:

Idea: Give the players a more "Classic MMO experience" (or the FFXI leveling experience) where they have to party, colaborate and struggle against hard enemies together. Also if you die you lose EXP (even can be leveled down!!).

Execution: Players didn't give a fuck about hunting monsters and they created the FATE TRAINS where 20 parties of 8 ppl where going fate after fate and 90% of the people was AFK or underleveled for that fate (or both).

For a future iteration of Eureka they should make it more fun and active, not promoting fate trains where everybody is AFK.

Valonquar

Member
Eureka was basically FFXI for FFXIV. Exp loss on death, and actually having to be careful where you ran out of fear. It was fun, but ultimately content that is going to be largely unplayable unless they nerf it hard. Especially BA in the final zone.

How would you rank the expansions so far? I only got till Heavensward and stopped playing before Stormblood came out. I loved HW and thought it was a big improvement over the main game.

I plan to comeback to the game next year where I'll have more free time to spare. Is the community still active? I used to play in Ultros.

1. Shadowbringers
2. Heavensward
3. Stormblood

Stormblood isn't bad. Just a little slow since it spends time on two separate conflicts.

Shadowbringers >>> Stormblood >= Heavensward

For me, Stormblood and HW excelled in different areas, but Stormblood's patch quests were incredibly strong. Just comes down to preference, I think.

Stormblood is definitely slower paced than HW.
