The Jimquisition - It's Microsoft's Fault That Videogames Are Bad

Weren't people mainly cheering because they snuck in the online play behind PS plus, right after they said they weren't going to have DRM like Xbox One? I remember thinking it was slyly in their list of features as if it had always been there.

As someone who rarely plays games online, it pisses me off the most that online access is charged for, because in those once in a while situations when I wanna play a game online with someone, then I have to weigh whether or not I want to pay for that shit I barely use.

It doesn’t really matter why, they cheered with loud enthusiasm that multiplayer would be locked behind PS+ and then wrote articles about it with glee.

I'm just saying they weren't cheering with loud enthusiasm because multiplayer would be locked behind PS+, they were cheering because games would not be locked behind online DRM, and Sony just happened to be announcing that multiplayer would be locked behind PS+ while people were cheering. There's a difference.

So how does that explain all the articles after that Sony would be better because PSN was locked behind a paywall?

You seem to be avoiding a part of my replies every time.

It was cheered all the way through. Let’s not rewrite history.
Well duhhh, given that situation the overall atmosphere was pure joy.
That's why Sony was sneaky and there definitely was a moment of confusing when paid online was introduced.

But be my guest and continue being impartial.

Also how is a game like Destiny or Anthem not locked behind that DRM? What did that “mic drop” really prove in the grand scheme of things if most games need you connected to the servers anyway?

Never pretended to be impartial, but thanks for accusing me of something I would never say I am.

Wipeout moves the needle? The Liverpool campus still exists. It just doesn’t develop games. Wipeout Omega actually was made by Xdev which is in liverpool. This is a franchise that can be on pc and it wouldn’t matter.

You mean the studio that Sony shit down right? Go read the history of the studio

Kagey K Kagey K I think you just need to chill out and stop raging in this thread. I'm done replying to you, because clearly you're seeing through some special lens that only you can see. I was talking about a specific moment during Sony's E3 show in 2013, that's it. I didn't talk about months later, or other games that third parties put that do require DRM. Just chill out already. We already agree that they're all shitty practices, but you're looking to argue for some reason about every little aspect.

I’m not even raging, if pointing out facts is mad, I don’t know what to say.

Fact: people where whooping and hollering for the PS+ announcement,

Fact: people said it would become like XBL

fact: everyone was excited for what Sony would bring to the paid table.

If you don’t like those facts, that’s not on me.

Don’t blame me because I stated it as it was.

EA and Activision should make their own consoles, then you wouldn't be able to call them evil corporations any more without being accused of console wars/fanboyism.

I appreciate that you can accept that.

I will remember that.

But it really says how few people played the game.

I still own a copy and have beaten it 3 times, but I don't play Killzone multiplayer so legit didn't know it existed. Knowledge about this stuff has nothing to do with having played the game.

Ok so I’m a bit confused, as long as you owned the game but didn’t know the pay as you win mode existed it’s OK?

Or it’s not OK in any game mode?

Or they need to shut down the servers quickly regardless if you paid or not?

So many mixed emotions coming out in this thread.

You said not knowing about it shows how few played the game. Except I'm a huge fan of the game and wasn't aware. I'm not excusing how they handled their multiplayer, I'm saying your comment made no sense.

You know who are the real asstards? The ones whooping and cheering at the Sony conference when they announced paid online.
Nobody cheered for paid online, people did cheer that they did not follow suit with physical disc DRM.
The introduction of paid online by Sony was as slimy as the hypocritical arguments I read of people using Sony's recent wrong doings to retroactively justify all the wrongs of Microsoft that go all the way since they entered this industry (not to mention their track record as a monopolist).

Bitch all you like about Sony games (by the way, the PS4 launch titles did not have the kind of horrible MTX people are referring to, it was mostly DLC for maps and game modes and like in KZ:SF). The worst MTX Sony did in a "launch-window" game (LOL) was time-savers in DriveClub, which were still tame compared to the crap Forza 5 had.

As usual, Microsoft innovated, and after press and consumer complacency, Sony followed suit. But yeah, comfort yourselves with SonyToo SonyToo as if that makes any other companies look good.

I’m saying if you were such a big fan, you were all aware of the Pay to win micro transactions that it included, it you chose to ignore them.

Nope you might want to remember it that way now, but that’s not how it went.

I don’t expect anyone to be honest around here anymore though.

I’ve seen enough.

Yeah, that's simply not true. I was a big fan of the campaign mode, never cared for Killzone multiplayer besides my brief time spent in it in Killzone 2. What you're saying is just not true, my man. There wasn't much in the news about this because the game was a flop and even of those who bought it the MP was an even bigger flop. Like I said, still have my launch day copy, never have even tried MP.

On top of that everywhere I look online they're saying the MP has been dead since 2016.

Al those that were upset with it didn’t buy it. How many people do you think that is?
No, plenty of people who were upset ended up paying for a year or two down the line and not be happy about it. Because they wanted to, you know, play online.

By your logic, you must love paying taxes then.

I don’t love paying taxes, but if I have to I have to. Better then nobody pays and my roads crumble.

I love Jim, but he's just taking the piss/trolling for clicks with this one. The industry as a whole is fucked and it sure as hell isn't majority owned or influenced by MS.

The OP video is absolutely right. MSFT is a cancer of videogames.
And we need to address the elephant in the room no one talks about: Sony.
The days when Sony dominated everything with PS2 were the golden age of gaming. The best project, IPs and franchises were born then. The ones that are milked to this day. Therefore the only way to get gaming to their former glory is obviously to make MSFT and Nintendo to stop.

It's Jim's schtick to hate on Microsoft - he's been doing this pasty whiteboy act for years.

But only when it suits him, of course.

I didn't see anyone cheer, but people definitely tried to defend it by saying "it's going to improve the servers" and other bullshit. Sony is just as much to blame for shitty business practices as Microsoft. And the people trying to defend either of them is what enables them to continue this shit.

There's a big difference:
Those defending Sony were a minority.

Those paying for XBL all those years were a majority.

Night and day, but all are morons.

I'd never deny this, people will defend literally anything. In the thread about Borderlands 3 deleting your save someone said "it's a fun game so I wouldn't mind starting over" like legit wtf.
