So who is getting a Switch Lite this friday?

Here's my plan to show how much efford I put into this.

Friday, after work, I'll check out my local target since I need to do groceries anyway. I'll walk by the electronics section and grab Switch Lite for my son if there's any left.

Otherwise, I'll grab a V2 switch. I really dont mind one way or another.

It always amazes me - someone creates a thread about something they're excited for, and the thread gets filled with people throwing shade. It's actually okay to let the person be excited. You don't have to be that kid at someone else's birthday party saying oh, I already have one of those. Oh, that sucks, mine's better.

So people are only allowed to post if they agree with the OP? Different opinions are bad?
What is this, Resetera?

OP can be excited all he wants, just as others can answer the threads question positively or negatively.

This announcement along with the battery upgrade finally got me to bite on a full on Switch. I set it up just today and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I can see what the hype is about now. The Lite seems like it'll be a good option for some people, so I guess it's worth it to weigh the pros and cons between both.

Proper D pad and better battery time, smaller form factor.

With the real Switch you can buy a left Joycon with a D-Pad. Also, the new Switch model is the king of battery life. Paying $200 to get rid of the ability to 'Switch' seems backwards.

I already have a regular Switch so it doesn’t make sense for me to buy this. I think this will draw in a lot of new customers over the holidays.

Oh whoops here you go.

Nobody is saying he's in the wrong for getting excited, people are just voicing their opinions and concerns on the product in question.

Hey, can anyone tell me if the TV out can be used while still getting full audio from the Switch? May get an OG or the upgraded battery life one soon.

I might get one later on. I just sent over a grand on an iPad Pro and Brydge keyboard, so I can’t really afford it right now. That plus there are a lot of games coming out for PS4 that I need to pick up that is going to stop me from buying a Switch Lite for a couple of months. I might ask for one for Christmas.

I plan on getting one if we have any left when I got to lunch (6 pm). At least if we have grey, the other colors are awful. Awfuller. I know it's Nintendo, but is black or white really so hard?

Don't care about hooking it up to the TV, I only use my Xbone for streaming video these days. I want something portable.

So is not having a portable replacement for the 3ds.

I wish they went the other way, I'd rather have a traditional console with no screen, that I could keep under the TV. I bet they would save LOADS of production cost by doing that.

I think it's the form factor that would entice people to buy the Switch Lite. See comparison pics/vids, it's smaller and more compact, having the same width as og gba for example.

Ironically people who had been voicing their 'opinions' really like to miss this point, embarrassingly.

Waiting to see if the d-pad isn't garbage

I'd never buy the og model

lol@buying a system you have to mod to have a d-pad and people acting like thats acceptable

Anybody other than Nintendo would get flamed to hell for that

Not me. I decided to buy a back-up 3ds instead, mines getting kind of iffy and I have a huge game library for it. I'll most certainly buy another Switch someday, but no reason to at this point.

Waiting for Switch Pro, Switch Docked & Locked (Home console only) or Switch 2. Switchever comes first.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

When the Switch is docked, the audio goes out over HDMI instead of the console's speakers.

You can also buy a wireless headset (I use the Playstation Gold one personally) that can plug into the dock's USB port. If you do that, you'll get audio out of the headset instead of the TV, but I don't think there is a way to get audio from the Switch itself while docked. Not sure you'd want to, the speakers are covered up by the dock itself typically.

I would have preferred they make a home model no screen, maybe apple tv shaped that's for a permanent tv hookup that has more Hard drive space .

The primary draw of the Switch to me is exactly that it switches. It's versatile. I can play the same game, with the same save files, on a handheld or the TV, with my choice of controller, with no setup entirely seamlessly.

Switch Lite doesn't do this, and the only reason is artificial market segmentation.

In other words, no. Get fucked, Nintendo.

You can use the headphone jack to get audio out of the Switch even while it is docked. In fact, the volume buttons still work too.

I've done this before to use a PC monitor with the Switch. The monitor takes HDMI but has no speakers, so I just plugged the powered computer speakers right into the Switch with the standard audio jack (y)

Not in a million years. Losing the option to detach joycons is a massive deal breaker for me. I love to just offer random people on the plane/bus a joycon so we can play Kill La Kill, DOOM or Street Fighter. Lot's of great memories. Especially when the ride is really bumpy and we are desperately trying to keep the screen straight 😀

That's not the reason nor the only reason, it's being called having options. For kids, for portable lovers, for families craving multiple switches, or solely for a being a Pokemon machine.

The normal ones. Why? You're not saving this, are you?

I agree with you that options are good.

That is exactly why it sucks that Nintendo has artificially removed the literal namesake of their product to withhold an option from kids, portable lovers, cravers of multiple Switches, or simply people with less money.

The Switch Lite could have worked with a standard Switch dock, and/or a new design, making it a paid feature (option). Meaning they would not be taking a financial hit by allowing this option.

I don't care what anyone says, it's nonsense and it sucks.

Teal isn't turquoise but equating a color to a toilet is weird considering most toilets are wh%te.

Would I prefer that it docked? Absolutely. But sometimes things don’t work out the way we want. This and the other posts seem like a shitton of unnecessary aggression — it’s not like the OG Switch, which does all you want, is going anywhere.

Moreover, we don’t know the internals of this thing, outside of the main chip used. With the removal of docked, maybe there’s less metal for the heat sink? A cheaper fan? Dropping Docked may have also let them shave money on the price.

They want you to buy both that’s why they took out the docking feature.

They’ll probably do a “new” switch lite down the line that docks, so you feel compelled buy a third etc.

I could give Vita for example where a company is adamant on presenting a sorta reasonable price for the current market while at the same time having to cut corners (using proprietary card) as compensation, there's always a price for these, the only question is whether it's worth doing. There's also the developing cost (which in turn would contribute to the price) to consider, plus QA tests for having to keep the dock option. Modders are now trying to test whether the tinier handheld could properly withstand heat pressure, and that's definitely not a guarantee it could work on regular basis.

There's no way in hell I would ever trust a Switch with Joycons that can't be replaced. Not until Nintendo proves they've improved the durability of those sticks.

This is one thing I really want to know too. I want a lighter system for playing in the bed but if the sticks are shit then it's pointless.

Is there gonna be any shell mods? Colors are ugly as hell. Grabbed grey

They bleed into the bezel so you'll prolly need a new screen with it too I think. Unless you get the black one and just deal with it.

I would if it were £149.99 as £199.99 is too much.

Would have preferred it to have been smaller as well, but alas, I guess they couldn't shrink the components to get it to Vita levels of compactness.

Mod it? I don't think putting a different Joy Con on the left slider is a mod since the Switch was designed to do this.

It's totally not acceptable that the Switch shipped without a D-Pad so don't think I am ok with that. I believe the Joy Cons design was compromised for the 2 player tabletop nonsense they wanted. However, you don't need to pay $200 to get a D-Pad since the Joy Cons can be replaced and to get a D-Pad Joycon it costs $15.

Also, since the D-Pad on the Pro Controller is....not great then I am not sure how much I trust Nintendo's D-Pad on the Lite.

I thought about it, but if I'm gonna get a switch I am just gonna grab the normal one so I can dock it too.

The 3DS should have had a TV version, it's called having options.

Doesn’t uh...doesn’t the normal Switch do all that already? The options are built right into the thing.

I’m sure I’ll get one eventually. I ended up with like four different 3DS’s after all.
