DEVELOPMENT

In their moment of most need, facing bankruptcy and mass layoffs, DE as a hail Mary pursued their original Dark Sector concept. Having failed to secure publisher funding and struggling to even pay the bills DE decided to go solo and Kickstarted Warframe to much success. Since then, Warframe has reinvented itself several times redesigning key gameplay systems and adding new ones in what can only be described as a self improvement marathon. While originally a corridor shooter, Warframe nowadays offers to its players open-world style areas and space combat.

First OT and have shit GIMP skills so have mercy :p

There's a pre-existing OT but after consultation with mods, we're starting a new one since the old one is a bit crusty now

I assume its a genuine free to play?

It is. And the currency system they use is actually quite good - you can buy platinum for real money and use it to trade with other players or to buy cosmetics. And because the trades are limited to your MR (at 6 MR you get 6 trades per day) it's not abused by bots etc.

I'll stick with my Gara when things get tougher. Best frame in the game and barely anyone knows

I went ahead and started downloading

Its free to play model is really good. The premium currency can be traded for in game, and used to buy stuff from the store too. So theoretically you can own everything and not pay a cent. The store is largely just cosmetics and they've taken measures to make sure theres as little loot box'y gambling type stuff as possible.

This is the same company, who in there early days removed a 'slot machine' that basically randomises the color of your space dog because they found someone had pulled it some 200 times just after release. That was removed within a day or two of it being implemented.

Their whole philosophy is produce awesome content for free and rather then try to gouge money out of everyone at every turn, they rely on the good will of the players to WANT to spend money. Also some of the cosmetics are pretty damn neat

And a word of warning. The game is pretty obtuse starting out, and it doesnt always do a great job explaining itself. Though they have worked on that through the years, but its still not great from what I hear. I've been playing 4 years now, own most everything, and still look up things on the wiki just about every day.

So keep that handy, or ask here.

Played this for a long time.. Best frame is Nidus imo. If anyone wants to play on PS4 (I invested a lot of time there) let me know.

Myself and Frogs are both part of the old Gaf/ current REEEE clan so I'm sure we could arrange an invite. Only problem with that is the name at the moment....

If you have a clan your happy with, feel free to friend request me. Lox769

I've been playing this on and off for years. Thanks to lurking Neogaf I got lucky with that Steam pricing error for the Hydroid pack two years ago :messenger_hushed:

Still haven't unlocked the entire system. Some of those node requirements are bullshit. Stealth missions and flying are broken. Not a fan of the quests and open worlds either. The old alert system was better.

But the gameplay is fun as hell! Easily the best loot shooter. It's also a good game for loners, people always carry noobs without talking.

Played with old GAF . Had good times with frogs, dr ray, and more. It is a good game but I don't put in the time anymore for it.

They do have a commitment to keep things time affordable. This year they replaced the alert system with a battle pass (which is free for all players, they don't charge for it) and they've detuned the time requirements after player feedback.

I've always been interested in trying this but never pulled the trigger. Just got a new PC so I could give it a whirl there, or my trusty PS4P. It was always hard because Destiny was my game, but my dislike for alot of what they've done with D2 has left alot of hours I could sink into something else (Once I finish BL3).

How noob friendly is Warframe at this point? My concern is stepping into a game with no info on it and being overwhelmed by the content, or finding tons of it to be completely worthless to do at this point.

That's a nuanced question.

The game is noob friendly as in it won't demand that you spend hours learning mechanics or perfecting skills but there's a lot of systems and the game doesn't always explain them. The game's wiki is a very useful tool, let's just say.

Maybe I worded my question poorly, noob friendly more so will I learn the basics and flow of the game without needing to watch videos and go to long wiki pages? I'm not a fan of needing to read a novel or watch 10 hours of videos before I step into a new game :)

I'd say so, yes

Pay attention to the tutorials!

I got into this game after watching a series of SkillUp videos that I accidentally encountered while looking for Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris reviews. I swear that bloke must have pulled in so many players with his series alone - the developers have since given him special treatment.

I’m sure I played it around 2013-2014 when it was a spaceship-interior third-person shooter with some melee abilities. There were janky stealth mechanics; and a lot of janky but fun wall-running and sliding mechanics. It got a bit repetitive and I assumed the game would dry up like other F2P.

Fast-forward to when I next played in 2017-2018 and they’ve got a personal space-ship; they practically make it rain weapons and characters faster than you can finish using them; and they significantly changed how players get around.

For anyone not familiar with the game, here is a list of random ass mechanics they’ve got:
  • Spear fishing
  • Mario-party laser mining
  • Hoverboards
  • Interior decorating
  • Base building
  • Stealth missions
  • Puzzles
  • Space combat
  • Animal hunting
  • Trade economics
  • Cosmetic competitions
  • Music creation
  • Pet breeding
  • Photography
  • Underwater combat
  • Character creation
  • Flappy bird
  • Street fighter mode
  • Shmup mode
  • Dead PvP
And I had a mate with the nerve to say “it’s the same thing over and over.” Eventually it is, of course.

Nice summary Walledhouse. The games sure come a long way.

However, you didn't mention Lunaro so I'm not sure we can be friends

I assumed that was covered under “Dead PvP” :messenger_grinning_sweat: But for real I haven’t got any of the Conclave modes to ever work for me. It might be peak times or regional situation.

Yeah fair play. Conclave is always dead though. I accidently got into a game once, and bailed the fuck out as soon as it started

Me and a couple of clannies went to play some Lunaro for the memes once or twice and we ran into a guy who we dubbed Lunaro Guy. He was that one guy who played it way too much and would basically single handedly stomp us. Was pretty funny.

Oh and Bitmap Frogs Bitmap Frogs . You should prob add that summary to the OP

I am playing trough my backlog atm, but so a full 100% dedication to a clan I cannot promise, and to be honest I don't want to. But playing it now and then, for fun and some grinding, sure!

Warframe is a fine game, but I kinda hate it because of typical f2p player retaining mechanics, like the daily sorties for a riven chance and the recent seasons with a bunch of weekly tasks and copious amounts of griiiiind, but I kinda like the grind. Point is, it's difficult to put away for awhile without feeling like you're losing out. So it eats away at the time I want to spend on other games.

My current favorite frame, 3x umbral (Tank/Lash) Saryn Prime for easy 8 round solo ESO or 1h'ish Survival Arbitration. The Supra Vandal for quick'n dirty shield popping and a Scoliac with a badass (250-400k reds) Riven to spin2win.

Eyyy a new Warframe OT! I've not played since Plains of Eidolon (which I hear has been remastered?!), but man what a good space ninja game.

I'll have to get back in at some point, actually finish off my crusade for the Mesa frame. Is the GAF clan still active?

Yeah, I basically went full Frodo.jpg when I realized how close I am.

Also, I can't believe I've been sleeping on Khora for so long! I've been casually browsing the WF sub lately and realized she's a lot more powerful than I initially thought. Since I had plat and forma to spare (+Jaw Sword riven, talk about luck lol) I went all out, bought the arcanes I was missing and I'm levelling her up now. Been looking for a new 'go to' frame anyway because I got a little tired of using Mesa so much.

Ya Plains were remastered. Look a lot nicer + quite a few qol things. There's also a newer open world on Venus which added quite a few things to the game, but as an experience its pretty similar to PoE.

The ps4 clan is still pretty active, although the amount of OGs has dwindled a fair bit. The thread basically moved when the site split and is currently based over there, so make of that what you will. Not sure about PC

Khora's great. Get the loot aug for her dangledome, a bunch of range and some strength, and she's the queen of Kuva survival

Thank you!

I still need adaptation tho... I really don't like how you have to wait for arbitration to refresh !

You can just buy it off another player - https://warframe.market/items/adaptation

And you don't really need Adaptation for solo ESO on Saryn imo. Here's my build:

(only added arcanes in the last few days, they are not needed)

I'm using a smeeta kavat with healing mod (forgot the name) to heal me when it deals damage and atterax modded for healing return. This setup does up to 8 solo without any issues whatsoever.

I'm two days away from maxing all the focus schools.

See I play this game at a totally different level.
  • I hate the Eidelon fights;
  • don’t want to try sorties;
  • don’t have any rivens;
  • never gild or forma;
  • rock the basic Amp; and
  • have only two nodes in the entire focus system.
However:
  • I’ve mastered half the frames;
  • beaten every node on the star chart;
  • maxed out two factions;
  • completed a ghost-clan dojo;
  • (nearly) completed every quest;
So when I go to the subreddit it’s all blah-blah riven this; riven that. It is like when I go to that place I know I’m not pure. I use the keys, but I feel like I am a mere trespasser there.

I still play roughly 2-4 days a week. It's an underrated game. It's as complex as you want to make it. Rhino, Wisp, Wukong, Khora - there is a frame for anyone's playstyle. Except Limbo. Learn to use Limbo, or you'll find yourself in a world of hate.

Atlas Prime on the way Oct 1st

I think I'm one of a half dozen or so people that's looking forward to it.

How's warframe nowdays anyway? I've stopped playing shortly after second open world came out.

It's really good if you take a break every once in a while. My last one was nearly a year, I'm MR26 and the game still feels as fresh as it did when I first started playing. The smoothness and freedom of movement are second to none and given my experience with some other online games recently I appreciate that fact more than anything. Plus the grind is relatively tame (focus excluded) overall so the new toys are always within reach.

Focus isn't so bad if you get into eidolon hunting. Though that can come with it's very own can of worms as well
