Terminator Dark Fate bombs at the Box Office

he's directed the only 2 good movies in the franchise. it definitely caught my attention when his name was attached

haven't seen it yet, but from what i've read in the reviews - what a disappointment

It has a 54 rating in metacritic, which isn't exactly good. I don't really trust rotten tomatoes anymore, it seems to get scrubbed off of any controversial ratings and anything mainstream/woke/marvel automatically gets great ratings, even when the movies themselves are middling at best.

What terminator needs is to remove arnold from those movies. Arnie was great actor in original movies but his character is done, anytime you want to bring him in you have to create retarded story. Like T3 or any other terminator after that.

It is exactly like Aliens series. After 2nd movie they didn't know what to do and even had plan to make Alien 3 about monk sanctuary instead of prison colony (i shit you not there is whole script you can read). Then with Alien4 they cloned ripley then more garbage. Prometheus was best attempt at reviving Aliens but they butchered it with script so dump that you question yourself why would anyone make those choices.

Wait a bit time. Any review which came recently after game or movie is biased because of hype. Once hype dies down it is where you see what floats and what goes down. Great example of that is Horizon Zero Dawn. Eveyrone was hyped about it for few weeks and then no one even remembers it. Meanwhile something like Witcher 3 was awesome at start and still is mentioned constantly.

This is the same reason why for example RPGcodex prefers to do GOTY awars after some time not in year where games were released or outright does 5 year GO5Y awayds.

Disagree because Terminator is not woke.

The original Terminator is so good, but everything that's followed I just think has been largely unnecessary.

I mean go back to the original; its a low-budget 80's action movie but as a story its remarkably complete. You also have to remember one of its signature moments was the Terminator doing running repairs on himself in a dingy apartment, it was gory and visceral. It was grounded, and "street" in a way that nothing that followed has been.

T2, I've always had mixed feelings about. At the time the CG was mind-blowing, and the bits with a prime era Arnold zipping about on a bike twirl-cocking his shotgun are iconic and unforgettable. That said, Furlong was always horrendously unlikeable and the unhinged version of Sarah Connor was a real bummer after her likeable and sympathetic appearance in its predecessor. And of course, the way that Arnold's newly-minted mega-stardom overshadowed his portrayal of the Terminator was a complete game-changer.

Long story short, T2 has some great stuff in it, but as a story its just not particularly convincing and the whole "action movie about world peace" line Cameron promoted it with has always made me roll my eyes. It takes a huge shit on the original by ret-conning the dark future we actually wanted to see pan out into oblivion, and for the most part is a dumb as fuck "douche-boy and his robot friend" story.

By the end of T2, the imposing threat of the original, who barely speaks a handful of words throughout the entire picture, is making hokey speeches and self sacrificing himself heroically. It is BULLSHIT.

I can't say I remember much about the third movie frankly, but it at least got a few brownie points from me for actually doing the right thing and re-resetting the apocalypse back on, and preserving the meaning of the first picture.

After that, gotta be honest I really stropped giving a shit. Because it seemed very apparent to me that the things that made the original so good, had been long-forgotten and instead people were trying to ape T2's successes. Which obviously was never going to happen as the reason it worked then was more about the when/who/how than anything in the story.

This has become the new defense force for #teamwokeness, i.e. a dishonest denial of evident far left agenda when it's shoved in our face like an unwanted dick in the eye.

I hadn’t seen the film so was genuinely curious why it was being called that. It wasn’t some underhanded tactic in a culture war.

I agree, but I don't think it's gonna happen. He'll be starring in them for as long as he's alive and even after he passes they'll probably give CGI Arnold another try. He's the main draw for a lot of the viewers, even if him showing up closes many doors for the story to go in other directions.

The idea of a new Terminator with Linda Hamilton and Arnie back intrigued me until I saw a preview and within like 15 seconds you could see it was just the same exact shit again. And the cringe of Linda saying "I'll be back" just made me eyeroll hard it was cool for the first 2 movies but EVERY movie since someone has to say it and to me it isn't iconic it's cringe. Plus all the CGI turned me off and the over-the-top new Terminators it was an easy pass. Only one person I know went to see it and he said it was mediocre at best.

Woke or not does anyone really give a shit about Terminator anymore?

I wouldn't be so sure about that sport.

Before the movie was released we were treated to this little gem

maxresdefault.jpg

Now, despite what woke Hollywood will tell you, the future of male orientated action movies is most definitely not "female". The truth is that most women are not interested in Terminator movies. Women like other shit, they have entire genres of other shit that men don't watch, just for them... and only someone with their head up their arse and a penchant for likes on twitter, will tell you differently.

So now we have established the the Terminator fans are mostly male, you have the director calling people that rolled their eyes at the prospect of yet another "Gender-Flipped", all female, reboot of a beloved franchise, misogynistic trolls.

This is the absolute very definition of get woke go broke.

Now you may counter with "yeah, well that's just a small number of internet neck beards that don't like soy milk and live in their mothers... blah blah blah..."

Wrong... You live in the age of the social media and Whatsapp, son, shit has never got around quicker than it does today. So before yo think that woke/broke is not a thing, I'd like to remind you of Gillette's 8 Billion loss over one advert.

Edit - this is not the dude i mean't to quote, and now I cannot find the one I did mean to quote, so sorry mr quote, and the rest of the post still stands... for whoever it may concern.

I love the first two movies but the ones that came after were forgettable at best. Mix that with some more preachy woke nonsense that is part of the standard Hollywood recipe nowadays and a shitty trailer and my interest is in the negatives. I might watch it eventually streamed somewhere. If they ever make a RoboCop vs Terminator movie i might watch that just for its B-movie potential.

Well, I have to say, if that quote offends you or upsets you or triggers you, which it obviously has otherwise you wouldnt post it, then I think it's safe to say you are a closet misogynist?

Also, women do like action movies, you don't think the MCU and FnF movies make so much because of men do you?

I was actually going to be pretty surprised if this movie did well. The trailer didn’t look good and the leaks confirmed they were basically giving the middle finger to the first 2 movies so here we are....

Been seeing the anti woke brigade crowing loudly about the movie bombing. Cos it’s woke. Then there is the woke crowd also celebrating it bombing. Cos it’s not a Star war or Marvel thing.

It’s funny how u can always tell who hasn’t actually seen it. People that actually see it tend to not be as reactionary.

It’s not another Ghostbusters or Last Jedi but we’re at the point we’re every single movie has to be that now.

Why do they keep making Star Wars, Oceans, Star Trek, Mad Max, Pet Cemetery, The Thing, What women want... They are too afraid of new IP

They are afraid of new IP because no one watches them.
I was actually sitting here typing up a large list of failed action films but then deleted it. If you do your research you'll see a large list of failed action films.

And were they marketed?

It's not an excuse for the, the 90s bore some of the greatest original movies ever made. They are afraid of hard work, they want the easy buck. That's why Hollywood movies are vapid shit.

If you want a couple of good modern action movies check out Polar and the new Shaft movies on Netflix. Loved them,

This has become the new defense force for #teamwokeness, i.e. a dishonest denial of evident far left agenda when it's shoved in our face like an unwanted dick in the eye. The movie shames Sarah Connor because she makes a "sexist" assumption & chooses to remake the exact same plot as T1 & T2 with a midget Mexican girl as the savior + an androgynous female Kyle Reese as her protector. It also turns the T-800 into some sort of low testosterone beta male with guilt.

Maybe some people have been in the boiling pot of Hollywood social engineering for too long & don't notice this shit, but to a vast number of people (including people aka men who'd normally go watch a Terminator movie), it's freaking evident.
lol, keep trollin.
good job on removing context why the people (and i) said it.

your the one who spins a narrative in his favour without examining the buildup to the point we are now.

keep spilling your braindiarrhea, its fun to see people discredit themselves.

So it only took 357 bad sequels for people to finally go "maybe I won't watch the next one"

Terminator Woke Fate flipping so hard must have really, really pissed some people off, for example people like this idiot: https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a29485751/terminator-dark-fate-cast-feminism-avengers-endgame/

He's right. The Terminator franchise has never shied away from presenting us with strong women. Yet it has also been blighted by the fact that Sarah Connor became the epicentre of this saga because she will give birth to the man who will lead the resistance.

It's something she points out with understandable bile in Dark Fate. "You're not the target," she says to Dani, "it's your womb." It's a salient distillation of so much of what women live with. But by speaking it aloud Dark Fate acknowledges it and turns it on its head.

It's the collective wailing, screaming & frantic gesticulating of the woke crowd (including now denying their shit movie is woke after previously championing its political agenda before release) & their tears which I find particularly delicious in this instance. This sort of propaganda always deserves to crash & burn.

This would have bombed regardless. People know better than to pay to see a fucking Terminator movie. The franchise is over with; Hollywood just needs to catch up.

this is why i dont think your point is worthy of disscussion. its bombing everywhere.
let me guess, now you gonna spin this into "the world hates woke shit".
no, the world is indifferent to american politics and crusades by both sides to make this shit into something it isnt.

its a moviefranchise where several people got burned on and lost interesst. sometimes things are just what they are.

I think the problem is the small universe. You have Arnold you have Sarah and her son and that’s about it. Other francises have many characters, allowing for marketing to demographics, representation, etc. People think Star Wars is small but Terminator is tiny.

Also, movies these days can’t just be fun popcorn films they have to be Great Art or some masterwork of franchise marketing. To me it’s like the old Frankenstein monster movies. You get your Bride Of and your Abbott and Costello Meet. Thing is back in the day when they made those it wasn’t like there was a separate monster movie series making billions.

People demand a certain look and seriousness from modern films. They want to watch Iron Man thinking it’s great art. Anything that looks silly or might embarrass their nerd cred gets trashed. New Terminator films aren’t shot like prestige tv, they don’t strive towards pretentiousness, thus they do not flatter their audience so much. People want a pat on the head and to be told they are a big boy. They get that elsewhere.

Haven't all of the terminator films bombed after t2? Why do they keep making these things?

T3 was "Hey T2 made a ton of money, let's do another one"
T4 was "Well hey that didn't do so bad, let's do another with this cast and a cameo by Arnold (kinda)"
T5 was "Okay okay, we've listened, and we got James Cameron to say on camera that he likes this one! Also Arnold!"
T6 is "okay fine we got James Cameron back! And Linda Hamilton! And Arnold! Please please please remember the good times and trust us!"

Terminator was a great film that did not need a sequel. Terminator 2 was a fantastic movie as well, and accidentally a great sequel. We didn't need or want more. I don't think the "woke-ness" of it hurt it as much as the topic implies but it certainly isn't helping it. This movie wasn't wanted from the word "go."

Hopefully this one serves as a wake up call.

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. When we ordered tickets there were tons of seats taken but when we showed up only like a dozen people were there.

It’s not really that woke, the Marvel and Star Wars movies are way worse in that regard
But the internet tells me this is impossible. So you really didn't like the movie. There.

Also, no really this movie sucks, but glad you liked it.

I actually disagree; I like the Marvel movies but they are 100% the brightly-colored popcorn trash that people love. They aren't fantastic or artistic films. They're good and entertaining, however.

Wokeness translates as far left agenda, third wave feminism & Cultural Marxism on these shores, i.e. "woke" is not an American exclusivity. It's just as likely to elicit raised eyebrows & outright disgust around the world as it does in America, more so if you consider the fact America has become a sort of weird epicentre of far left identity politics which they export abroad (notably) through Hollywood.

Captain Marvel is an original female character hero. It’s also sandwiched between the two hypest movies in MCU franchise

Look, it’s not like men here are anti-female, we embrace Tomb Raider, Alien’s Ripley, Black Widow and all other female superheroes, but for fuck sake be original, create new female franchise (I love Salt, Atomic Blonde, etc) don’t just kill off John Connor and shit on the last 3 movies and replace him with Dani for feminism sake

This is what I notice with these studios, they want to push feminism agenda, but they’re also afraid to start new franchise so they re-use existing franchises and slap on female character replacing the existing main characters, John Connor, SW, 007

It was destined to bomb either way because Genysis was shit, Arnie is old, and most people are too old to remember T2 and T1. You need teenagers/20 somethings to want to see your movie, not 40-60 year olds.

But the extra icing on the top was the wokeness that pushed it to mega bomb status. If Tim Miller didn't open his big mouth, if Cameron didn't lie about Furlong and then kill off JC, if Dani Ramos wasn't 5 feet nothing, if the first promotional picture wasn't 3 WAMANZ then maybe it could of made 40-50 mill, still bad but not franchise killing bad.

And international markets, especially those in Asia don't care for Woke BS. China is probably one of the most un woke places in the world. They don't care about WAMANZ, heck they killed their female babies not to long ago with their stupid 1 child policy. So some movie about a mexican WAMAN as the savior of the world, along with her grandma and some non-binary super thing is not going to sell there. I mean JC at least throw China a bone and put a scene in China or a chinese character. Was he expecting Mexican's to see this movie in droves and make it a billion dollars or some shit? Or was it more important to have another political message about ILLEGALS.

One reason why the whole “omg woke movie!” reactionaries kind of annoy me here is that the original films had a female lead hero. So it’s not like that is a drastic change.

The stuff about immigration and Mexico would maybe seem out of place if they hadn’t established her going to Mexico in T2 in the first place. So that didn’t feel forced either. If Sarah spent 20 years south of the border causing mayhem then it makes sense crossing back to the US would be an ordeal.

I’m just not seeing it. Then again I haven’t read any interviews with the director.

Yesterday I doubted this was a case of get woke and go broke, but now I'm wondering if my doubt was misplaced. All for one reason - somehow this movie, which I have heard nothing positive about and frankly cannot even understand the plot of despite reading several articles laying it out, has a 70% tomatometer, and 84% audience score. That leads me to conclude this thing was indeed a get woke project, because its the only way I can rationalize those scores with word or mouth and box office numbers. I'm not able to say the political message caused the flop with certainty because the treatment of this franchise post T2 has honestly been utter shit. But I'm not blind to how things work when a certain message is prominent - huge support from activists, which often contradicts the general consensus. And I am seeing that here.

Of all that you didn’t mention the most drastic change of all, that they just killed off John Connor for some ‘Dani’ and pretend the last 3 movies didn’t happen

T3= the end of the trilogy. It was supposed to wrap everything up
Salvation=start of new future war trilogy.
Genesys=start of new time bending trilogy.
Dark Fate=Start of new retcon trilogy.

The last 3 movies were all supposed to launch new trilogies (and probably TV shows, cartoons, comics, video games, etc...) and all 3 failed.

Disagree because Terminator is not woke.

The director himself sells it as woke, the plot replaces the hero of the resistance for a minority girl with the exact same role. All the characters on the good side are women (and apparently a depressed sexless Arnold that feels bad about how evil he is) while all the evil people are men. How is that not a woke movie?

Isnt Dani's big hero moment in the future stopping Grace from getting raped too?
