It devalues their ecosystem when giving customers options to go elsewhere.

That may be true, but guess what? It's happening.. they must have run the numbers and looks like they will still come out on top. Vulkan API is perfect for a portable graphics engine that can be run in Windows and Linux. All the Sony devkits run linux.. easy port to do. If I had powerful PCs as dev machines that can be downported to Sony PS5, I'd develop my main engine using Vulkan too. Wait for the release on the PS5 and then ask Sony if we could release our "main" version on the PC platform. PCs are NOT in direct competition with the consoles, so it's good for everyone.

Take GTAV for example with having people in their ecosystem Sony gets a sizeable cut from every sale on PSN which would be in the hundreds of millions given how that has sold and it practically costs them nothing to host in comparison.

And that’s just one title.

If they devalue their ecosystem and allow people to go shopping elsewhere then they lose a ton more money than they could ever make by having their exclusives on PC.

It's not as simple as that obviously. What one could ask is why MS is successful with selling boxes despite every game coming out on PC. Does Sony make as much money on systems over games? I don't know. I also don't think that statistically it would largely mitigate PS sales tbh. There are plenty of gamers that can't afford an equivalent PC spec'd hardware that can run the exclusive games coming out next-gen.

So if you’re arguing not many could run the games then that’d reflect in poor sales which provides even less of a value proposition for them.

If they did go to PC it’d probably be through their own store.

Everyone should be getting the hints already.. it's not rocket science. Sony is willing to allow porting their exclusives to PC. Games are getting too expensive to make and most companies will have dev kits that are upgraded PCs. The hardware is already similar to PC. It would be smart to make an extensible graphics engine that targets higher end specs than what's coming on next-gen consoles. Why not make up some extra profit with allowing PC sales. It's a smart business decision. MS isn't hindered by PC games, so why should Sony? There are only 2 major studios left in the Sony-only stand: Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica.
.
.. . dead Stranding is not and was not Sony exclusive....

Guerrilha and Japan Studios? And Polyphony is pretty big too going by its Wiki, 170 employees, 5 studios in Japan, Netherlands and US.
Because they’re not third party and want customers in their ecosystem as that’s where the real money is.
Exactly, you got PS plus subscriptions to sell on Playstation and PSNow on pc.

No. I like owning different consoles knowing each offer unique and exclusive games. It gives them meaning for existence and good value.

Well its the way the industry is heading especially for xbox and sony already said multiplayer games from them can come to PC. Plus PS Now probably coming to phones next year.

So tough patookies.

Personally, I don't care that much anymore.

Judging by RDR2 and (maybe) Death Stranding, you will need much more expensive PC hardware to match $400-500 consoles. It's not just about res/fps, but also in terms of stability (no tearing/hitching/*.exe crashing).

RDR2 is a mess. PC gamers got it, but they couldn't imagine this fiasco. I say bring it on and embrace the popcorn!

At least consoles still offer physical games. Don't like a game? Return it and get your money back. I see many PC gamers wanting to get a RDR2 refund and they cannot even find their transaction in the EGS purchase history. What a fucking shitshow. Nobody envies that. I'd rather wait for a (free) 4k60 update on PS5/XB2.

You guys gotta let this locked down exclusives box mentality go.
I'm willing to let it go, as long as PCs will always be more: 1) expensive, 2) cumbersome and less user-friendly.

RDR2 is a perfect example.

Consoles will always have their place in the market. A predictable, closed platform that devs and hassle-free gamers can depend on.

Is APU this time, not a exclusive CPU.
Yes so ..... , people make mistakes there is no problem in that, maybe you got exited to post this (without reading it) just to be first or something, i really don't know what went in your head, what's weird is that you're always be the first barking at people "oh nothing related to the thread" or "don't deviate from the thread" .... yet you posting random shit.
Hope you stop being a baby about it since you made the same mistake, chill out.

it's like the difference between consoles and cell phones. consoles are more specialized than phones, but as far as sales numbers go cell phones win out because their appeal is broader than just games. but video games are available on cell phones, consoles, PCs, etc. each platform has it's strengths and you can't say one is "best"

“Playstation 5 is the easiest console to code for, claims Jim Ryan”.

Where did you see that quote? I see this one...

"One thing that makes me particularly optimistic that what we're hearing from developers and publishers, is the ease in which they are able to get code running on PlayStation 5 is way beyond any experience they've had on any other PlayStation platform."

Yes it was until it was announced it was coming to PC. No one and I repeat NO ONE saw this coming. Same with Detroit, Heavy Rain and Beyond.
Er loads of people thought there was going to be a PC version. There had been speculation months ago. In fact i thought it had already been confirmed when they announced it.

I'm trying to be a discrete as possible. Just trust me when I say, we have all received the signals of what Sony's intentions are going to be moving forward with exclusive titles.. the PC will share in the love. Think H:ZD 2, God of War 6, etc..

You don’t need to guess, theirs an article which discusses it going up.

PlayStation Now is a more compelling offer today, but Sony has resisted putting new games into the service. Microsoft's does that with its Game Pass subscription offering, with every new Xbox first party game available to subscribers.

"It's an area that is fast changing and fluid," notes Ryan. "The nature and scale of some of the first party games that we are making leads us to think that, right now, it's better to spend energy on making sure that the launch of those games is a massive entertainment event. I would cite God of War and Spider-Man, and The Last of Us 2 next year will fall into that category.

Spoiler: It’s not changing.

If that happens, it will be because they have to amortize AAA production costs across as many (non-competitive) platforms as they can. I guess this is the price of the AAA production values arms race. Economies of scale once again emerge.

So far we've only seen some "lesser" exclusives being ported to PC. By "lesser" I mean less critically acclaimed games such as Detroit Become Human and Death Stranding.

Personally, I enjoyed Detroit a lot, despite the fact it didn't have any groundbreaking gameplay. At least it wasn't a tedious grind. I'm not sure about DS, we'll see tomorrow.

Strange too... The tittle don't match this afirmation after all. Was he talking about the API? Because besides clocks/hyperthread, is x86 after all don't?

From other pespective:

There's a follow up with this quote:
These are gamers who are networked and sticky and engaged and passionate about PlayStation to an extent that we've not seen in previous generations. As we move towards the next-generation in 2020, one of our tasks -- probably our main task -- is to take that community and transition it from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and at a scale and pace that we've never delivered on before.

Linux is the OS for PS and Vulkan will start to be the new graphics API. Vulkan gives the low-level API programmers want (for graphics) as well as being portable across OSs like Windows. Death Stranding is the perfect example. It's probably why they announced it so recently that surprised some people.

PS3/PS4/Vita run FreeBSD. PS4 has 2 APIs, GNM (Mantle-like) and GNMX (DX11-like). PS5 will most likely run FreeBSD as well to guarantee BC:

Linux is not a good fit due to legal/licensing issues (GPL), only Google seems to use it:

DX12 and Vulkan are Mantle derivatives.

DX12 is Mantle derived???
Yep:

AMD and DICE collaborated to make Mantle, which was heavily inspired by libGCM.

PS3 had 2 APIs: libGCM (low-level) and PSGL (high-level). Not OpenGL as many people think.

I thought they were competitors? Lol
From AMD? I remember watching a long time ago the AMD streaming saying they're both helping Directx 12 and Vulkan with the Mantle concept.

Its more like a dilema. Microsoft and AMD have a long history while OpenGL have a dark time with AMD GPU so they opt for helping Vulkan as well. Everybody wins.

In case you guys still have doubts:

Straight from the horse's mouth. Can't really argue with recognized industry devs...

And yes, this API homogenization makes the porting process much easier than ever before (PC, Stadia, PS4, XB1, Switch, mobile):

Oberon is thought to be XB right? There was another rumor that it was having thermal issues before, no?
Chinese Forum users rumors:
October 6, 2019:
At present, the products of Tiangong are very quiet. First of all, Renoir should not be able to catch up with this year. It should be said that all the plans to mass-produce 7nm by shifting stars(Foundry/Factory/Process?) have been delayed for at least three months.
...
Now run a bunch of strange coded things online: Arden OBR/Oberon Sparkman The first one should be on the Xbox The second chance is PS5 The third is very interesting, the case layout that has only recently been evaluated is very similar to Renoir, but A little fat and not a special FPx pin for a notebook, but a semi-custom SoC common BLx...what is the lack of a game console manufacturer?
---

---
...
Anubis is not doing it now. Maybe the development machine code Arden is not unexpected. It should be the version to be listed. Arden is progressing faster. OBR is still in the early stage and Arden is bigger than OBR (350 vs 300 mm2).
---
November 6, 2019:
2. Oberon continued to re-test, Holiday 2020 really catch up... 3. Super Giant Navi's first machine late last night Just arrived at the gods star(Factory?), Navi 21 This is also the best figure in the history of the Temple(Foundry?) (~505 mm2), which is twice as big as the ordinary version of Navi.
