Nvidia introducing Ampere in march 2020 & releasing RTX 3080 in june

NVIDIA is allegedly preparing to introduce its next generation family of 7nm graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture next year at GTC in late March and is reportedly planning to release the RTX 3080 around Computex 2020 in June.

There has been a lot of talk in the techsphere lately about NVIDIA's next generation Ampere graphics cards, which was initially sparked by the company allegedly communicating some initial marketing and go-to-market strategy for Ampere.

According to several rumors floating around, NVIDIA CEO & co-founder Jensen Huang is said to be not in too much of a hurry to bring Ampere to market just yet, largely due to how well positioned Turing already is in the market against the competition from AMD. Especially in the high-end segment where the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti sit uncontested.

However, with AMD preparing its own alleged "NVIDIA Killer" high-end ray tracing graphics card for next year, team green is getting ready to preempt the red team with Ampere in the first half of 2020.

According to Raymond James analyst Chris Caso via HKEPC, NVIDIA has allegedly pushed Ampere back a few months, which is currently in the beginning of its ramp. Ampere is now set mainly for an announcement at GTC next year in late March. According to Caso NVIDIA plans to kick off Ampere's roll-out with a new datacenter focused AI product first , i.e. an Ampere based TESLA accelerator at GTC.

Gaming GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture are said to follow a couple of months later with Computex 2020 being the target. The roll-out will reportedly begin with the introduction of high-end Ampere graphics cards first and will be gradual with Ampere graphics cards replacing their Turing predecessors over several months.

NVIDIA is reportedly planning to announce the RTX 3080 in June with a showcase of the new graphics cards in or just around Computex in early June of next year. Even though the source doesn't go into details about which specific graphics cards will launch first, from a practical point of view it's more likely that NVIDIA will introduce the RTX 3070 alongside the RTX 3080 and ahead of the RTX 3080 Ti.

This is simply because it's implausible that the 7nm process will be mature enough to support the introduction of big Ampere at a consumer level price point so early in Ampere's life cycle. An Ampere Titan release followed by an RTX 3080 Ti later is more likely. Other GeForce 3000 series graphics cards targeting the mid-range such as the 3060 and 3050 are expected to follow a couple of months later in the summer.

RTX 3000 series Ampere graphics cards are rumored to bring substantially better ray tracing and rasterization performance. They are also rumored to feature bigger frame buffers cross the lineup as compared to Turing. They will also allegedly have slightly higher clock speeds and lower TDPs compared to their 2000 series Turing counterparts.

In terms of pricing the new cards are rumored to be cheaper in the high-end, specifically the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti will allegedly be priced more attractively than the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti. You can find everything that we know, has been leaked or rumored so far about NVIDIA's upcoming Ampere based graphics card here.

Once they release a RTX 3080 ti I might be on board but I am more interested in the March release. As long as there is a significant performance improvement from my 1080ti I will upgrade. Otherwise, I will wait for the RTX 3080 ti.

The difference between 1080 Ti and 2080 Ti was too pathetic for me to justify upgrading. I need dat 3080 Ti.
Nvidia 7nm gonna be crazy, a bit worried about AMD i wont lie, even tho they did a great job fighting against these greedy mf's.
I hope AMD next gpu's wont have heating issues.

I don't see why you would need to be.
The only time NV really pulled ahead was combination of 20nm process failing (which harmed AMD more, as they traditionally embraced new processes first) with graphics department starving for R&D money, as most of AMD's scarce resources were focused on Zen development.

AMD could obviously roll out product targeting any part of the market, it makes little sense at this point, however, to invest into monster sized chips, as most customers from that market part, want good AMD product only to have cheaper NV card.

I hope Nv will no longer build tensor cores into their gaming GPU's. I would rather see more RT cores instead of tensor cores, because so far DLSS games look worse than 1800p + Nv sharpening upscaling, so there is no real point of having it or using it.

I'm the same I hope it's a big boost over the 1080TI. I would much prefer if it came out before Cyberpunk because it would be so amazing but I don't it will happen. To be honest i might just get the 3080TI

Bah. I was hoping earlier. Now I'm in a situation...

Maybe I can find someone selling a used 1080 TI on the cheap

I usually just ebay my latest board and buy the latest and best x080Ti board -- which ends up being around 50% off.

This part caught my attention

Cheaper? Not a chance. Nvidia think they are the Apple of video card companies.

Only hope for beter prices is competition from AMD in the higher segment.

Right? Gets a big "LA Noire doubt" from me.
Not even being snarky. If they're aiming to jump away from AMD again in performance, why would they? Intel pressure maybe, but that is a big unknown for this piece to be speculating on.
There is no chance in hell that nvidia will lower prices unless they are forced to.

Unless Raj can blow the doors off with Intels GPU that aint happening.

I'm waiting for something to be worth the upgrade from my 1080ti at the price. I may actually wait on playing Cyberpunk till I get my new video card. It's not like the beginning of the year isn't full of great games anyway, and this'll give them a chance to fix any bugs and also get some mods out.

I just recently picked up two 2070 supers for myself and my son. If there is a massive gap I’ll grab one. Tho I will wait until it’s bundled with a game to help offset the price a bit.

I think that actually may be a problem for Nvidia and hence the rumored lower prices. We'll have to see if the 3080 and up do offer a substantial performance over the 1080ti/2080+ cards. If they don't and it's just RTX perf increases, I don't think many people will bite at a high price.

I'm hoping that a 3080 (currently have a 2080) has at least 2X performance in RTX and %30-40 gains in traditional raster performance.

I hope the next generation of videocards comes out soon. The RTX 2080 Ti has seemed overpriced ever since it came out over a year ago. Now it seems even more overpriced because nvidia refreshed the rest of the RTX lineup with Super versions but they left the RTX 2080 Ti alone because it has no competition. They could clearly be selling us a better card if they wanted to by at least updating it to have the faster memory. Not to mention that ray tracing performance isn't the best on the first generation of RTX cards.

Yea, this cycle of graphics cards will take a lot of money out of my wallet. I'll need a PCI 4.0 spec mb. If I get that, I might as well get a next-gen intel CPU with it.

nvidia sales have been down lately, would not surprise me if they see the writing on the wall...

Nvidia saw revenue drop 60% in the fourth quarter, as demand for high-end graphics cards plummeted. In its fourth quarter earnings call, Nvidia announced revenues had hit $481.1 million, down 60% from the $1.2 billion it recorded last year. The company also racked up a fourth-quarter loss of just under $148 million, compared to a profit of $257 million this time last year. Nvidia warned investors back in January that sales in the quarter would be weaker than forecasted, due to weak demand for computers and inventory reductions among its customers. The warning was accompanied by the company slashing its revenue guidance by 50%. Nvidia chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang was typically blunt in his assessment of the quarter, claiming "November fell off a cliff".

Did you really just post an 11 year old forum post?

LMAO..

There's no writing on the wall... what the fuck are you even talking about?? "pie_tears_joy:

The add-in board market increased in Q3'19 by 42% from last quarter, with over $2.8 billion dollars of AIBs shipped. Nvidia increased its market share to 73% in Q3. The last fiscal quarter was transitional for Nvidia as older products made their way through the channel allowing the company to ramp up production and ship more new products at the end of the quarter. Nvidia not only boosted their market share but they raised the overall AIB market. Their channel inventory is now reported as healthy says the company. Nvidia’s RTX line is doing well and represents 66% of its gaming revenue.

I'm talking about the long term, not the moment-to-moment movement of a stock market. nvidia will do fine next month, but from a long term perspective nvidia has nowhere to go as a business. their is a definite end date on their activities :(

I'm fine with my vega64. It plays everything maxed out in 1080p.
If I was ever in the market for a new card, I'm not sure I'd go the Nvidia route. Yeah, they're better then AMD but their prices, my god.

Totally untrue. The GPU business has been given many death dates before but people keep buying them with no end in sight. Turns out people really like playing games with nice graphics on their computers.

But even if that market collapses Nvidia has made moves in many different areas - cloud computing, streaming services, embedded platforms, AI processing, autonomous driving, media players, etc. - that show they’re not as one note as you think they are. All of those haven’t been totally successful but it shows they’re a flexible and adaptable company.

I'm only interested in mid-range cards.

The 960 2GB to 1060 6GB upgrade was massive. The 1060 to 1660 or even the 2060 not so much. I hope the 3060 will be at least as fast as a 1080ti and have at least 8GB VRAM.
