I myself never in to Pokemon series and I don’t think I ever will but let me remind you guys that Fire Emblem Three Houses wasn’t exactly looker either but that didn’t stop the game being good.
I always agree with you in JRPG stuff, but is Fire Emblem have constant slowdown, texture pop and lack of content?
Is the strong aspect of FE not?

I didn't play Sword and Shield so I don't know the details but my point is I wouldn't judge the game solely based on visuals. But if the game dose really lack content and it feels bare bones then it does deserves to get criticize and base on the review blow it seems thats the case.

My sugest is if you're really curious about the game just look for a channel with a honest gameplay. No toxics guy or pkmn defenders, just a fair gameplay or walktrought.

You'll be impress by the lack of quality compared with recent Nintendo games trust me. I been talking good about Luigi Mansion because is a hell of game, an autentic Nintendo quality game.

Now, 'fun' is subjective. Some reviewers are having 'fun' instead of saying the PRO and Weaks of the game and that I find insultant. They made a full decent review of Death Stranding, so why not making the same with Pokemon?

Also there was a softlock clip in the other thread that was caused by a simple double KO, twitch removed it though.

We decided it’s not the time or place, and the entire controversy deserves a more comprehensive article (which takes time, and I was busy working on the review.) The review is my opinion, I shouldn’t change it based on the community being mad, but on my experience with the game.

Super strange...

Im not a Pokemon player either and i agree with you, but i think the situation with this game is completely different than Fire Emblem.

From my understanding they cut a lot of content from the game and justified this saying they would improve graphic, animations etc.

Turns out the game is out without a lot of content present in previous game and it also has awful perfomance.

Um... shouldn't all these issues contribute to the review? Like what? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Better to talk about them on a clickbait article later on

Yeah, I'm really enjoying my slow playthrough of Fire Emblem, but it's a technical mess and looks quite ugly, to be honest. Hard to believe that came from first-party Nintendo.

I am picking up the double pack on Friday (120 euro here)............... BUT!

I am disgusted at how Nintendo can launch such a game, in such a state and depend on sites like IGN to prop up their score, I just finished Death Stranding and if I listened to their review I would have missed my GOTY.
But I knew they would score Pokemon highly, it is typical IGN.

Says he's disgusted but is literally the reason they can get away with it

If I could say no, I would. It's a present.
I mean you're gonna have a good time with it. I don't think anyone is saying that it's a bad game overall. Hardly they're all very solid games.

I for one am glad this has blown up in their faces.

I'm wondering about one thing though.. is the Japanese fans just as vocal as us about this?

#GameFreakLied or some hashtag was trending today on Japanese twitter. They're just now bringing to light the dex cut to the majority so we'll see.

Ah yes. IGN, the same site that gave Pokemon 7.8 Too much water. Totes high score. Typical of IGN.

Same, I just want them to give honest reviews and feedback. It's gone beyond a joke at this rate and how many people are going to buy these games or NOT buy them because of these reviews and be robbed of an awesome experience or be frustrated that this new Pokemon does away with a huge amount of the franchises history and has huge performance issues etc.

Agreed.

I will wait for forum impressions before getting it. I'm very interested to know what's the better game between let's go and Sword and Shield.

It's like the overachiever vs the underachiever

So Pokemon Sword and Shield is the 'New Gundam Breaker" game in the series. Flawed at its worst but you wanna support that game because of the brand and you wanna see more games from the series.

An 81 MC is still the lowest score a mainline first entry on a console Pokemon has gotten. The original Ruby & Sapphire is listed at 82.

It is interesting looking back at some of those old quotes and how much more raw reviewers were back then. (Mind you this is 2003 and people were getting tired of the formula back then)

Game Informer-2003
Rather than ushering in something new, Pokemon's first foray on the Game Boy Advance is just another rehash with flashy new graphics.

I really don't think this one is in dire need of support. Pokemans shifts units fam

People in this thread right now.

Nobody is yelling at children playing videogames, if people can't handle online criticism of a videogame that they subjugate themselves willingly to then they maybe they should avoid those places if they're that thin skinned.

No one forces you to read videogame forums or twitter, you do that willingly. If you can't take the good with the bad then maybe you should just avoid gaming forums and twitter for a while.

However comparing it to interrupting someones private enjoyment is a false equivalency that is arguing in bad faith.

Legit question, I thought the too much water thing was just a fun joke...because that game does indeed have too much water traversal.

I didn't think people took it seriously

So far I think Eurogamer's review has been the most concise and impartial, even though their conclusions are negative. They at least point out the flaws beyond Dexit, where too many of these reviews mention Dexit and then gloss over (or outright ignore) gameplay and graphics issues that people have concerns over.

Now that many of the issues that were brought forward by streamers are verified in the reviews, a lot of my interest in the game is gone. I don't care about the culled Pokedex -- at least I didn't so long as it meant the extra resources were going to making a more robust game. Inexplicably, we got a game that regresses compared to past iterations. So much has been cut, and what are we getting in return? Not much. Higher resolution graphics, a lackluster open world area, and Dynamax/Gigamax.

Many of the downgrades and gameplay change feel like the inevitable result of Game Freak trying to keep the Pokemon Go crowd interested in the mainline franchise.

There are literally people in this thread claiming the exact thing to reviewers who enjoyed the game. Reviewers said they had fun despite (or completely missing) the "issues" people here have with the game. Well clearly they were paid or [insert other idiotic conspiracy theory here], because they can't possibly have fun in this game that I hate for reasons despite not having played it myself! /s

Those are the people I am mocking. If you have genuine issues with the title? Fine. I agree with a number of those issues. When you do the above? I am going to mock the shit out of you as you are a joke worthy to be made fun of.

Also it is a fucking meme about a children's game. You are taking shit way too seriously.

Not read any of the reviews. But heard some words being thrown around.

Spent the past 5 or so hours playing Pokémon Shield.

Its fucking brilliant.

Visuals are beautiful. Gameplay is snappy, and fun as fuck.

I have a beeeeeg Pikachu.

10/10.

The ign review is awful not because they gave it the same score as the witcher 3 but because it doesn't tell you anything besides describing what a pokemon game is. Woudn't be suprised if you see her working at nintendo within a couple years, they've scooped up a couple ign people who reviewed nintendo games high

Gamexplain review was much more level headed and informative. Still undecided if I should skip this one since it looks a little too similar to sun/moon to me and hope the reception of this game motivates gamefreak for the next installment

Let's play a game of spot the shill scores

IGN is winning so far

I am honestly not certain whether IGN even knows it is shilling anymore.

I am pretty sure that their reviews are given out by a cash-operated Magic 8 Ball, that spits out weighted terms based on the literal weight of the cash inserted.

And it's completely fine for pokemon fans to disagree with reviewers based upon what they've seen even if they haven't played it.

Pokemon is not a reflex intensive skill based game, it's not a Devil May Cry or Sekiro where playing it requires exact precision and positioning in split second movements.

Pokemon still has the same core gameplay that it did 23 years ago, you move around, talk to some people, get into a turn based battle, pick an attack, navigate some menus, rinse and repeat. There is zero reflexive skills involved with playing the game.

So it's completely valid for someone to watch someone playing on Twitch for a couple of hours and say "You know I didn't play the whole game but it sure it didn't look like a 9.3 from what I saw"

So I don't see why negative opinions should be discredited since the only thing that's really changed is it's graphics.

From how people were complaining about them, didn't expect the new Pokemon is going to score well.

Internet 2019

Previews: The game is good
Internet peoples: The game is not good

Reviews: The game is good
Internet peoples: The game is NOT good

Internet peoples who have played the game: Oh well, it's actually good
Rest of the internet peoples: GODDAMMIT I'M TELLING YOU THE GAME IS NOT FUCKING GOOD!

giphy-downsized-large.gif

I take it you have been to the core pokemon subreddit. It's nuts all the people shitting on it and not even played it. But the sword and shield sub is full of optimism. The other thing I can't understand is how people are blindly shitting on this like they wont update it in the future. This isn't the 3ds it should get updates and DLC like smash or any other big game. All I know is my kid, myself, and my wife are amped and the reviews look ok for what it is.

Don't know why you say this sarcastically.

Kids don't care about graphics.

I don't know about that. My nephew wasn't aware of "graphics"...until a Youtuber he watches mentioned it. Now he cares about graphics. Last week the kid started guitar lessons. Guess where he learnt about those.
