VR not a focus of Project Scarlett, says Phil Spencer

That may or may not happen. There are no guarantees either way.

But you still haven’t answered my question. Why would Yoshida be complaining about MS not investing in VR?
He did? Probably because MS is slowing VR becoming mainstream by just not allowing Oculus to work with Xbox Next console at least at release.

So I'm lying because I don't enjoy VR? I like to discuss things that I both enjoy and don't enjoy. That doesn't make me a lier.

So you're simply denying that a minority is trying to stop VR down everyone's throat? Is that because you mean it's the majority of VR users instead?

What are you trying to get out of this?

I dunno why you are spreading bullshit, Heres a quote.

This game is solely purposed to sell steam VR, so won't come to psvr2 or vive. Only Steam Index.

Then when you were corrected you questioned him with.

What are you basing this on? There's been previous VR games that were actually exclusive to specific headsets, why wouldnt this be any different?
Hint, he was basing it on experience and knowledge of every PCVR headset being compatible with 99% of PCVR games. What were you basing your comment on?

Just because vr is shit doesn't mean that Kinect isn't shit either. In general these types of peripherals are shit, no matter what we call them.
Another BS comment about how VR sucks, yet you have already proven you dont know anything about VR, unfortunatly it is a common thing with a lot of VR Naysayers here, not all though. Some have good points and proper experience. You can have a proper discussion with both sides as long as one side doesn't bullshit to bolster their argument, it is what I try to do. Give it a go sometime, the reaction my surprise you.

Then there is this
The same thing can really be said about VR people. Many try so hårs to push it down common gamers throats, and if they see no interest from them it's simply because they are poor trash that can afford it, cus that's the only reason you wouldn't play, right?
Someone made a thread some time ago with the conclusion that the only reason people disliked VR was because they couldn't afford it

Aww you poor person. One troll said "people who don't have VR are poor" and that triggered you so hard you decided to shit on everyone else who hasn't said anything but defend something they enjoy. My heart bleeds for you and everyone else who talks shit about something they don't want other people to enjoy, because they personally don't enjoy it too.

This isn't just confined to VR, I see Xbox gets a lot of shit and trolling on here too, There is some nasty blood between Sony and Microsoft users for some stupid reason.

I can't be bothered to go any further back in your post history, I think I have made my point though.

Its niche as fuck and companies once again overestimated how big the demand for it would be hence the ridiclous price points

Valve have invested millions into this shit so won't just drop it, desperate to push adoption with a half life side story

I agree, being VR Only essentially puts Half Life Alyx behind a costly paywall.

124 kinect games over 2 generations vs 1000's of VR games on multiple platforms. even PSVR has over 200 games itself. Try harder.

I understand how people being burned with kinect would look at VR and worry.

Actually Kinect had some great games, and as a technology is fantastic. I've seen some awesome experiments using it.

Which might pay off for Valve if the game is good enough.
Valve will partner up with Sony again like they did in PS3 days and re-release Half-life VR on PS5 with much marketing fanfare and bundles. Giving them another bump for the game. Half life exclusive on Sony platform will get the chins wagging.

I'm not keen for VR because of today's tech and it's price so ofc I hope as few good games get released for VR as possible and look happily towards MS for not giving in to VR.
Not to say VR has no future, I just think that it's nowhere near as well developed and researched as it needs to be to hit mainstream, just like RTX.

I look forward to it hitting mainstream in 5-7 years though! By then the next box X will be released with VR support probably so I don't see MS missing out on much.
So far besides a very few games, all VR games were more gimmicks than actual games.

At least that's the way I see it.

Well - Sony had a head-start of several years with PSNow over Game Pass and XCloud but...

Not really. MS’s cloud infrastracture has been up for a decade or so, adding a game stack on top is a fairly easy task for them. Sony was actually the late comer to this cloud thing despite psnow is older than “xCloud”. This isn’t an analogy to the VR situation at all, assuming MS had to start from scratch now

If I was Phil Spencer, I would have said:
"The dreams, hopes and aspirations of a small percentage of the gaming user base, that requires a heavy R&D and technical investment gamble, is not a business reality for us at this time."

Was never a fan of VR until the other day watching my 9 year old cousin spend hours playing a VR game. Phil I hope you know what your doing in regards to VR?

I hope so. I really want Half Life, but I don't plan on building another gaming PC. It looks to be a great VR game.

So many naysayers who haven't even tried VR, have no idea what they're missing out on. It is amazing. I realize they just want to negate it since its out of their budget.

So anyone who doesnt like VR either has never tried it, or is poor?. Nice to see your drive by trolling has improved with age.

It's pretty weird to see when Xbox fans are pretty chill with what Phill just said and the other console fanboys are the one who mad at Phill's statement.

Hint: not Nintendo.

Reminds me of the many Sony fans so concerned about Microsoft offering $1 trials and Day1 1st party games on Game Pass, while Xbox &PC players are just selfishly lapping up the the Game Pass goodness with no cares about MS's bottom line. It's very thoughtful that the Sony folks are so concerned about the financial stability of a trillion dollar company.

Not sure about his view, but my opinion is yes, overwhelmingly. Not all of course.. I'm still demoing it to gamers in late 2019 and most still have no clue what is, the majority truly believe it's just a screen close to your face until they try it.

There isnt anything in the world that EVERYONE likes, even money. So no its a stupid viewpoint. I dont like VR, and i have sepnt a lot of time on an Oculus devkit. Yes it impressed me a lot at the time, but the games are just not what i want from it.
3 of the streamers on Mixer i watch a lot, all got an Index, all raved about it for a few days, and none of them play it anymore.

Huh? Where did I say everyone liked it? That wasn't my point, at all.

And streamers won't get views from VR plays, that makes no sense anyway.

You suggested that everyone who doesnt like VR, has never tried it. Insinuating that anyone who tries VR, loves it. Its wrong.
VR is just like a lot of gimmicks that come out over the years, like 3D. People try it, rave about it, but over time stop using it and go back to the tried and tested stuff.

EA ” Nobody cares for single player linear experiences any longer. “
Closes Visceral Studios and their project headed by Amy Hennig

Despite this, Respawn somehow twists EA’s arm and releases a Single player linear experience Star Wars game, Game becomes highest rated and bestselling SW game this generation. No doubt delivering Apex legends gave respawn the leverage.

Hmm, there might be a lesson here Chill Spencer.

It’s never about what people want with these schmucks, it’s about cashing in on the highest margins achievable. Long gone are the days of delighting the consumer and building a long lasting legacy.

And to be fair, out of those 1,000+ VR games, how many of them are 20 minute demos?

Even a bottom of the barrel Kinect game like Joyride or some shit has more content than the average VR game. Fruit Ninja Kinect and Kinect Adventures probably has more content than most VR games.

How many PSVR, Oculus and Vives are there? Maybe 10 million combined? So with 1,000+ pieces of software (which should be oodles of gaming), that's all the unit sales?

Kinect sold 35 million with only 100+ games.

He said a while ago that MS wouldn’t pursue it for consoles until it was fully wireless and I still think that’s the right call.

It just too much work for the average consumer to set up and maintain as it stands. Whether it dies (for the 3rd time in my lifetime) or continues to grow is going to be wholly dependent on what leaps they make with the tech and what developers show they can actually do with it.

That’s the reason they failed with the XBO and why they will fail with their next Xbox.

It isn’t important for Microsoft what their potential Consumers want, its is important what Microsoft wants for them.

I'm not keen for VR because of today's tech

Keep in mind this is talking about next-gen tech and not todays tech where the specs are jumping up 13+TF GCN from where they’re currently baselined.

So what you see today will jump massively for what’s produced tomorrow.

Next question is. How many of these 124 Kinect Games are fun compared to the 200 PSVR Games.

Again Microsoft is doing the best to lose against before it even begins.

They treat existing and potential customers like shit. I am definitely out for their next generation.

Very good plan to offend the VR gamers out there.

since you suggested it. I think it should only be fair of you take the first swing at it.

I'm not talking about today's computing power, I'm talking about the HMDs. The screens and resolutions are still to low and when a better headset comes out, it'll be like today's ones around 1k€. The whole VR thing won't blow up until we have better displays build in them so you don't see pixels anymore etc and the whole setup does not cost you more than 400€ including controllers and base stations for movement.

That tech and price range is still far away unfortunately.

Depends on what’s more fun to laugh at, the goofy you are the controller guy, or the goofy you are the helmet guy that can’t see shit, lol.

Vr is a nice thing, very nice. Truly the next big step. Technically it is not good yet. Big glasses, maybe cables. You need a very strong hardware.

I see it in ten years.. When you can get 4k native on both eyes with 90-120fps with all bells and whistles.

This in a very comfortable piece of hardware without cables priced around 150 bucks....

... Maybe 15 years...

This is absolutely false. In fact psvr sold almost double sega cd(4.2m vs 2.25m) sega cd with less time on the market. Those numbers were reported in March too for psvr. Not only that, you can see what you're getting with Sega CD, but you actually have to put in a headset to get VR. Then there's nausea claustrophobia. Sega cd should have absolutely destroyed psvr sales and didn't come close.

It depends on who you believe for Mega CD sales but I stand corrected. Stll the VR is very much like Mega-CD The huge user bases haven't bothered with it and much like with SEGA, All SONY big In-House AAA productions are made for the base console, bar the odd title.

I think it's a mistake to discount it. If anything I think it would make a lot of sense to look at partnering with Valve & Oculus to offer support for their headsets. No one's saying that MS needs to come up with their own VR hardware solution, but there's no harm in at least entertaining it as an option for those who may want it with select titles.

One thing that MS fans seem to agree on, is the myth of the infinitely large war chest. That is why it became necessary to put down VR; because if MS has an infinitely large warchest, then there would have been no harm for Xbox to pursue both traditional gaming and VR.

The only way to justify MS not spending money on VR, is to claim that VR is worthless. Because the alternative is to admit that Xbox has a finite budget and can't afford to just spend their way out of trouble.

Well to be fair, MS has been outlaying a shit-tonne of money of late with their various studio acquisitions and also their Gamepass push. I can't imagine they're making any money on that at this juncture versus hoping that in the long term people are going to stay subbed.

The more options the better but in Microsoft's case, I think not right now. They fucked up plenty of shit forcing kinect on everyone.

Let them build up their brand with (hopefully) new ips from all these studio acquisitions.

VR isn't going anywhere. Its puzzling to see fanboys so upset over Spencer's comments. You don't care about the xbox and/or probably don't even own one. So why are you so emotionally invested in what xbox does or doesn't do?

Sometimes I just scroll through the comments to laugh at the shit some of you say here. Saying Phil "offended" vr gamers lol. Are some of you confusing this forum with resteera???🤔🤔🤔

I don't think anyone gives a shit about MS's bottom line except shills and investors. The people who mention the 1$ subs usually mention it when there is some PR blurb about "x Million players", "x million zombies shot" or whatever.

Just allow oculus to have a application on the xbox and support their headsets. Everyone wins!
That's not gone happen, because than MS must release an SDK and API for it on xbox and test it.
With those few people that bought a VR headset, it just doesn't make sense. If they than allow occulus the next pc gamers cry because their headset isn't supported. And that just for a few million (~2m) potential people from which maybe 5% buy an xbox. Just doesn't make sense.

VR is a very, very tiny niche market. Kinect 1 sold 19m devices but died after a while. VR might exist a bit longer but does not have the base needed to make any profit with it. Sony invested millions into the technology and also has not really something to show in the last 2 years that VR could really be something better than a "gimmik" to most people. Than there are many, many people, that just can't play VR games, because their stomach tells them otherwise.
A console is a product for the masses, so it will only contain something that might be something for the masses. Sony hoped for it an it more or less flopped. Maybe they will try it again.
MS on the other hand developed HoloLens (AR), which is a useful product for professional use and is sold at much higher prices than a consumer would be willing to pay. Yes they hoped they can adopt this technology into something for consumers (and maybe someday it will happen) but it is still much to expensive with all the needed processing power etc.
Microsoft tried to make the xbox one as "one device for everything" which really backlashed at them because there weren't focussing on making a game console. That won't happen again with the next xbox (at least MS will try).

Nobody expects MS to develop their own VR solution. For Sony it was a logic step, they already make sensors, cameras and screens, the amount of R&D was much less.
MS just needs to support one or more existing VR solutions and allow devs to port their games to the new console. Launching Xbox Two (or whatever) with a "Compatible with Oculus Rift models x/y" would already be a win over Sony that is only releasing PSVR2 in 2021 or after.
