Tom Warren : Hardly anyone has Scarlett dev kits because Microsoft are planning to surprise Sony

I mean, we have been following consoles launch for a while now and there is no way they can surprise devs that much if they plan a 2020 release. We know that. the rest is PR bullshit.

I'm assuming from this tom warren fellow. that microsoft is supposedly keeping it's dev kits under secrecy to counter anything sony announces. assuming this for when microsoft got butthurt over that 8gb ram situation.

So Mahler basically admits that even Moon Studios, a 1st party developer for MS doesn't have Scarlett kits yet either.

It sounds like Warren is being truthful about what he's claiming.
Moon Studios is not first party. They are working on a Xbox One game to be launched next year and their next game is probably half a decade away. They dont have any reason to have a Scarlet dev kit.

If +-10TF RDNA consoles gets close to that I'll be chuffed. Do you have a source on this info or is it just your belief from what has come out so far?

You'll find out soon.

Although if Ampere is a big jump over Turing, I'll have to take back what I said.

'Due to the fact we didn't send out many dev kits the third party developers, there will be many games that don't show off the true power of Scarlet. They ARE coming though ... we promise ...'
They have already shown Halo Infinite, the launch title. We will probably get some news about Playground Games new IP(they have been working on it since 2016) in E3. Which will be followed by stuffs from Ninja Theory, Initiative, Obsidian, InXile etc.

They have been working on a non-Ori game for a couple of years. I expect it to launch early-mid gen Scarlett. Mahler also expressed huge interest in making a true Banjo sequel saying Moon would make it an awesome 9+ rated game.

The "We can't be the weakest console if we don't release a console" strategy is a bold move.

But seriously, if this hinders the launch titles they are going to look like idiots.

I can see it

MS: "players don't want VR so we won't focus on VR"
Sony: "We will focus on VR!"
<nobody has Scarlett dev kits cause MS wants to surprise Sony>
<1 year later>
MS: "This is XboxScarlet!! Our new console 100% VR oriented!!!"

SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKERS

So, MS and Sony really do appear to be playing who-will-blink-first with their final specs.

That means, among the fans, it'll play out this way:

Xbox Two > PS5: Sony fans will say that they'll have the better games and new IPs, so the specs are meaningless.

PS5 > Xbox Two: MS fans will talk up the benefits of Game Pass, while Sony fan cackle about MS messing up, again.

PS5 == Xbox Two: A combination of the above.

Nintendo fans: Wooooooo! Breath of the Wild 2!

MS is so concerned about not relinquishing power next gen, and yet they relinquished on giving great games for an entire gen .......The fact that they are so late with devkits and are playing the console e-peen game means it will be another long gen for them........With so few devkits out, so you know the launch will be horrible, maybe another lococyle, crimson dragon et al....

What if Sony anticipated that, and:

Surprise them with what exactly? A game console is only as good as its games and nothing more. I mean yes power does play some factor into it but not much because at the end of the day if the games arent good then the system is just an expensive paperweight and nothing more. Thats why the xbox is such a unimportant system because its games suck. Good graphics do not equal good game.

when will people learn that power and graphics alone wont win a gen? the correct balance will. This is why sony has been so dominate in the gaming space for so long. If MS dont understand that by now, shame on them.

Its not the sole reason, but a huge factor. Sure helped the XB360. And resolutiongate helped PS4 out of the gate

No but they have 343,The Coalition,Ninja Theory,Turn 10,Playground,the Initiative,Obsidian,Rare,DoubleFine etc...many of which have been gobbling up ex Naughty Dog/Sony Santa Monica devs

Don't feed the trolls derailing the thread.

Soon enough we'll know more about next gen. Fanboys can't even let someone have a positive opinion without being triggered. The toxicity of gamers these days is sad.

Works both way.
Remember that.

it took SSM, ND and GG years to get to where they are now. you could argue that Sucker Punch and Sony Bend still arent there yet. new studios like 343i need time to grow. Coalition did well with their sophomore entry, but its still not up there with the big boys yet. Outer Wilds is a snoozefest. i dont see these guys making something like Witcher 3 or Mass Effect.

if Halo infinite is a success, it wouldve taken 343i 10 years to make Halo a GOTY contender. I am not expecting big things from playground since this would be their first RPG. game development is an iterative process and you grow only from your failures. its very rare to hit it big on your first try. look at ninja theory, heavenly sword was great. enslaved not so much. dmc was fine. hellblade was meh. they havent really shown that they are able to keep up with the big boys.

the future for ms is definitely brighter than it was at the start of this gen. but i would exercise caution for at least the first half of this gen. maybe the entire gen. there is a reason an MS game hasnt won a goty in over a decade. they will get their first decent shot next year if halo infinite really does turn out to be a game changer but with tlou2 and cyberpunk i dont see it winning many awards, let alone most of them.

Why do xbox fans always make stuff up? What's your excuse now?

MS doing a SEGA during the Saturn Era by having no Third Party games at retail.

But seriously, best letting the Devs know before it is too late to get any partnerships for the Launch.

I'm absolutely sure that sony is trembling in fear of what scarlett specs will be...

Microsoft can choose between 357374 different gpu and 2935628 cpu for a closed system at 400-500 dollars.

Yeah, the that 250k was.money well spent by MS.

The Verge is a shit hole of a site. Tom Warren is nobody I would listen to regarding this business.
They have been doing PR for the American tech companies for years now.

Last time I watched one of their videos the "journalist" was
Oddly, both camps seem happy. PlayStation fans just want more games. Xbox fans just want more Phil Spencer interviews. Everyone
I agree with that assessment!
You are a true seer and you are correct; Apple copied and popularized what MS did in 2001
There were Newton s and many other PDAs that also had the tablet form factor (and a much closer ecosystem than whatever MS tried by hacking in touch support to Windows XP and asking sime OEMs to release laptops that support it).

Apple were the first one to get an actual modern tablet in the hands of everyone:
- OS made for touch input
- all software made for the form factor
- battery that lasts all day

MS was first in "tablets" like they were first in smart phones... Apple had a disruptive influence on these markets (and in the personal computer market, as well as the portable MP3 player before the iPhone).

P.S. my only Apple devices is an old iPad air.

You've been in this thread since the first page and have added nothing to the topic. Run along now. Mods should start removing clowns from these threads just flame baiting.

Your defense for being a shit poster is "works both ways". Thanks for proving my point.
I'm a shitposter for posting an industry insider's direct response to Tom Warren's tweets and you dismiss it by accusing me of being a fanboy?

You're being quite the hypocite, Anita.

they did not do anything for MP3 players.
I knew people who had MP3 players in the late 90 that basically already had all the functionality of the first iPod

Tom Warren is clearly spouting of Microsoft talking points. They're running behind because their lead architect left around e3 this year and they had to scrap the Lockheart/Anaconda dual strategy. Xbox is not in a position with third parties sales wise to withhold devkits to one up sony, which i dont believe anyways. As for Tom's comments regarding Microsoft haven't completely given up on lockheart? Complete FUD meant to shake Sony's confidence in their strategy. My opinion of course.

Even Phil wasnt very clear when asked recently about the dual sku for next gen which also could be part of their master plan to mess with Sony.

If any of this is true I feel Microsoft is way too worried about messing with Sonys plans and honestly I think Sony doesnt care about MS plans quite as much as MS hopes they do.

I would rather Xbox surprise us gamers and focus on a machine that just plays games instead of trying to do.....

Translation : I want Microsoft to act like a comic villain and do all the mistakes I imagined in my head, so that I can feel a bit better about my life choices.

This is an excellent point. Some of Microsoft strategy does seem to throw FUD out there to throw sony off, but sony is so clearly in the drivers seat that they so far, are not taking the bait. In fact, they are the ones being upfront and talking about their next gen plans while Microsoft hides and sends out insane talking point "Not sharing vital info with third parties to surprise the competition."
