Rumour: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Is Coming to PS5 'Sooner Than You Think'

I may be in the minority, because after the first few hours of swinging across NY I didn't enjoy the game that much and I had to force myself a little to finish it and to deal with all of the platinum requirements. I won't be getting the sequel if it's just more of the same.

I have a rule: do not play games for the trophies. It's pointless - there are no leaderboards, no trophy leagues (although I think that might be fun to do), or any real bragging rights. Trophies are basically just glorified highscores. I only look at the trophy list once I've finished the campaign. After that, I weigh up how many will be doable. I then look at guides and videos to see how easy it is to platinum.

Honestly, I think that's the best advice: ignore the trophies and just play the game. Consider them post-game content.

Right now, I'm doing Gravity Rush. I've only got enemy time attacks (should be simply), the three hidden bosses, and finding all the travellers to do; I tackled all the race challenges first because I suck at those types of things and just wanted to get them out of the way.

With Sony's first party games it's not entirely true, because you also get unique avatars as platinum rewards. ;)

Also Spiderman much like God of War, Horizon or Days Gone is a quite easy platinum, no need to waste countless hours on doing annoying things or replaying the entire game on hard (I'm always ignoring optional NG+ / ultra difficulty trophies).

Good, let sony rush this game for launch instead of horizon 2.

Just purge into oblivion any shitty stealth section with the red chick and the black sidekick and let me be spidey for the all fucking game.

Well, Miles will be awesome to play as in the sequel....
But I can see MJ's undercover stuff coming back but reworked and made a bit more dynamic and exciting...

Or just obliterate them from the game...
Nobody enjoyed that shit in the first game.

Just make some decent sidequest instead of half baked piss easy stealth sections...

I don't care for peter or miles, just let me play spiderman all the time.

Fix the random crimes, drop the stealth sections, and make the DLC something cooler than what was given. (Like go into A tier other supes that fit into Spideyverse - like Ghost Rider or DD)

Other than those three things, the game is perfect as a superhero game.

Well, for obvious reasons, if Miles is playable in 2 he won't be doing stealth anymore......

I do not think so, ResilientBanana ResilientBanana is right, the budget required to port it to PS4 would be far better spent ensuring PS5 as a great killer app and should be then invested into the game’s PS5 version budget.
It was a joke. The only thing that would change is resolution. Considering that there are massive RPG's out there that dont seem to be affected when ported from system to system. Optimizations could be made for cross-gen games.

The fact that Spiderman was literally the first game they showed off on the PS5, albeit in a tech demo form in Wired, was probably a big hint.

Sony has a long history of supporting their old platforms (God of War 2 and GT6 come to mind immediately). It would be stupid to abandon 100 million Ps4 owners the minute the PS5 comes out and demand they spend $500 to get games.

That doesn't mean Spiderman 2 is definitely coming to PS4, but Sony is almost certainly going to release PS4 games into 2021 and 2022, including high profile ones, and it doesn't mean the PS5 is being neglected.

If Spiderman 2 end up being a launch PS5 game. It's game over for everyone.
The game is too big for that, its better suited for the second or third holiday season, when the install base is larger and its further in the gen, meaning more people willing to get a new system.

Sony isn't like Nintendo, they can't still sell launch games 3 years later for $50.

Eh, there's a 100 million install base waiting to be taped into for it also. I could see cross-gen.

It is not impossible, but you want to use such a big big franchise to drive your new console, especially when you know it can also drive console purchases (and it is best if it makes the new console sing without compromises or without making your PS5 engine and game code more complex than it would be) and market share, and to help drive PS4 to PS5 updates.

By the time it comes out it makes sense to focus on transitioning users with first party titles especially on a PS4 BC enabled console.

A great PS5 Spider-man 2 that also needed to release on PS4 and wow users there too would cost quite a bit, this lowering your profit margins from PS4 sales, and would not help solidify PS5 market share and third party developers mindset (first party titles also have a duty to make the whole eco system healthier and more diverse and less of a risk for the third party developers to launch games on of various genres).

Oh it was a joke, really ;)?

Nothing is free, year old ports are often charging full price for a reason or end up only brute forcing minor gfx update changes. Optimisations for cross gen games costs money, may require gameplay changes, and increases testing efforts and the chance to release live bugs... and can cause a non trivial rise in complexity which will make bugs more likely and harder to fix.

The again, games nowadays do not need constant patches at and post launch anymore, right :)?

Sony have already commented the following which goes against that theory.

As we move towards the next-generation in 2020, one of our tasks – probably our main task – is to take that community and transition it from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and at a scale and pace that we’ve never delivered on before.

You can’t transition quickly with cross-gen, that only slows things down.

I'm interested in Spider-Man 2, but I'm much more interested in seeing Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

And, even more than that, God of War 2.

And, even more than that, Astrobot 2.

If so, it will hold the PS5 version back. 😉
Nonsense!
Here’s a leaked screenshot of Spider-Man 2.
As you can clearly see, nothing is being held back.

I am the the opposite. I beat it and did the dlc and every now and then I boot it up bcus I never get tired of the mechanics and how good and how beautiful it feels swinging through the city.

I still haven't been able to get past like the 2 hour mark in the first one. It feels like a high-quality mediocre game so far, but I think that's just because I'm worn out on the combat formula that's been used too many times.

The game was mediocre at best. I dont even know what aspect is praiseworthy.
Swinging doesnt require any skill, the city is dead, sidequests are filler, fighting system ripped off from Arkham games, bosses are pathetic, graphics are not so great.

Devs didn't show any willingness to create something unique like Rocksteady did with Arkham series. Not excited for the sequel
