Except that's not what it means.
One-quarter of the way between red and orange refers to the color called Scarlet. Write scarlet in google and this exact phrase will pop up. It has nothing to do with PS5 being 25% faster.

It simply says FLOPS PS5 > Scarlet

Oh ok

The rumor that said Lockhart was 4TF also said Anaconda was 12TF & that PS5 was 8TF

We know that the clockspeed changed on the sample GPU for the PS5 from 1GHz to 2.1GHz & we now have OsirisBlack saying PS5 is 25% above Scarlett

at 58 CUs PS5 GPU would go from 8.09TF to 15.59TF if the clock go from 1.09GHz to 2.1GHz

12TF + 25% = 15TF

if PS5 is 15TF next gen is going to be crazy
That estimation for CU count is with how many disabled? I'm reading people in this page going with the 54 and 56 figure, aren't these fixed values?
... Can you help us out here OsirisBlack OsirisBlack 😜

You mean, from a devkit right?

it was from a leaked chip

Both consoles are pretty close in performance in that 10 - 11TF range.

Oberon (Ps5) is 40CUs clocked very high 2-2.1ghz. Suggests 10.24 - 10.75TF.

Scarlett is also over 10tf but a bit slower than PS5.

That's my guess.

Is it really impossible?

The money saved on RAM might be the reason PS5 was able to get a better GPU than Scarlett

Seems others have already convinced you why GDDR5 would be a bad idea, but just to add: GDDR5 (even 5X) would offer overall quite lower bandwidth per chip than 6. Stock GDDR5 at 8Gbps and, say, 1250MHz, would only get you about 40 GB/s. On a 384-bit bus, that's a memory bandwidth of 480 GB/s. That seems impressive on its own, but not when there is already speculation Scarlet could have around 672 GB/s of bandwidth going with GDDR6 (1000MHz, 14Gbps, 384-bit bus like the X).

If Sony is pushing the GPU clock as high as it can go, GDDR5 would potentially leave it bandwidth-starved. Plus while it's cheaper than GDDR6 right now, it won't remain that way; GDDR5 only had 2 of the Big 3 memory manufacturers onboard, while 6 has all three (Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix) involved. That'll lead to much bigger volumes of it produced over time which'll drive the costs down. As GDDR5 production is scaled down, it'll end up being mainly smaller plants in places like China producing reduced quantities of it for things like hardware support of legacy devices, and the such.

Both consoles have HW RT one is better than the other.

Interesting. I wonder in what way(s)......

They did enable RT on older cards but performance is bad.

Sure I know about the software solution but my point was specifically about a HW solution. No matter now as Osiris clarified.

Unfortunately Ray isn't drawing as well as advertised, hes about 1080 TIny steps behind Pastor Charles. one-quarter of the way between red and orange > 10.
So this confirms that ray tracing is better in Microsoft's console? He wont be the first to say this. BitsnPieces on twitter said the same thing.

but how can ray tracing be at the level of 1080Ti if the 1080ti doesnt even have hardware accelerated ray tracing?

Edit: Pastor Charles = PC? So ray tracing is worse than PC.

Lol this is not saying tht dont be surprised when Sony has the better solution.

one-quarter of the way between red and orange > 10.

This could mean hes talking about tflops. 25% better or worse than scarlett which is greater than 10 tflops.

but i thought he was talking about ray tracing.

Look up, he just said which one has a better RT solution.

People have this weird assumption that next gen consoles gonna have some powerful, advanced RT solution on par with RTX. RT was clearly a late decision fueled by RTX cards. So I wouldn't expect anything fancy in that department but rather something that just ticks the RT checkbox on the feature list.

Yeah I see how u could interpret tht tht way but I think his RT comment was just referencing how both RT implementations aren't on par with PC but we all knew tht would be the case.
