So both, Nintendo and Microsoft copied Mark Cerny's PS4 centric social gaming philosophy and SHARE Botton...

what? sharing has been there from day one on xbox?! xbox dvr??? xbox uplad studio? what are you talking about? you could just press xbox button + Y or X for screenshot or video. this is nothing new. they had this from day one.

stop lying and spreading bullshit OP! I bet you never had an xbox!

To be fair, at launch you could only record vidéos, and only using kinect voice commands (and maybe browsg the system menus, not sure about that.)snapshots and guide shortcuts were added later.
That does the job btw, I never felt the need for a dedicated button.

The Xbox one had a share button at launch, it just had more functions than just sharing. Wii U as well.

It's also really not that big a deal. OP is putting a lot of stakes into this for some reason, no one is buying PS4's because of the share button.

I have noticed a lot of shit posts and threads on here today. A bit if positive Xbox news really is too much for some people.
I guess sony’s most ardent fans truly are frustrated and insecure.

but in all seriousness, this back and forth shit is only going to escalate as we get closer to next gen.

I hate this period of the gaming cycle. Every time new consoles are coming out the fanboys get ramped up and start their typical shit.

Who cares if something was copied. That’s the nature of things. Either it will be a shitty copy or one that spurs more innovation and competition between companies. Which is what you want.

It's a good thing when a feature that people like gets around to more people. I don't see what's wrong with it. When new standards are set, obviously they will be used by others.

Shit, sorry boys, I thought this was a discussion forum. I didn’t know there was a max limit on active discussions.

I’ll keep it to one a week. Somebody PM me Evillores address so I can send him some flowers.

Is everything alright? You've gone from one of the most decent people on the forum to short-tempered and snatchy in more than a few topics. There are plenty of people on GAF to talk to if you're frustrated.

If i'm being out of whack or just being a nosey-cunt then my bad. It's not good to see people go downhill though, you know?

Anyway, On topic:

I'm happy when company A does something that every other company copies, it usually means it's a good idea.

It's a shame more companies didn't copy remote play though

Well, I mean the reason why Sony splits their D-Pad is all because of Nintendo.

How many people actually used the share button on the PS4 controller? I honestly think I've never pressed it once in over 5 years of owning a PS4.
When I accidentally hit it, which is not often, it asks me to set up how I want to use it (long/short press, video/picture). I just back out and keep going. The Xbox just takes them automatically depending on the game. I have no real desire to use it.

It's cool feature, copy away.
MS need to get with the times and add a motion controls to their controllers and Sony need to pull their finger out and actually utilize it more.

You are aware that you just further proved his point?

Everyone copies everyone. Nintendo put analog sticks on their controllers, then Sony did. The Wii was a big hit, so then we got the PlayStation Move. But how DARE Nintendo and Microsoft put share buttons on their controllers.

Me too, except I used to hit it by accident all the time and hated that stupid button when I had a PS4. Can't say I'm thrilled Xbox is adding a dedicated share button. I used it for the first time on the X the other day to mark my position in Subnautica and it automatically uploaded to XBL - I don't want to share on XBL, I'm just an antisocial gamer I guess.

If everyone copies why are you so focused on shitting Sony for doing in the past? Sound quite hypocritical.

Sony isn't the only one. After the N64 came out both Sony AND Sega had their own analog controllers on the PS/Saturn. MS had Kinect to try to cash in on the motion craze. Again, everyone copies everyone.

The share button at the moment is something I believe everybody can use, once again SONY beat someone to the punch for a feature (Eye Toy Motion, VR etc.) in many cases Nintendo and M$ are catching up to SONY.

Jesus, people still type M$ out? What a cringe comment and thread.

EDIT: Apologies if this was satire.

Hilarious irony to all of this... PlayStation exists BECAUSE OF Nintendo.

Seriously; SNES in original CD-Rom, had Sony design an entire prototype, then ditched Sony unannouced and last minute for Phillips (I believe it was). Not wanting to be left holding the bag, Sony tinkered that prototype into the original Playstation.

So regardless of who is copying whom,, there's already a lot of natural overlap and history. :p

They all copy from each other. Hell, back in the day when I was with SOE, Xbox live was the blueprint used for designing ps online services. You're delusional if you think Sony thought up all that shit on their own.

My only gripe with ps4 share button is that its quit close to the square button. And in intense online games you can accidentally click it.

Other than that it's been a godsend.

So because Sony renamed the Select button Share, it is now their unique idea to share screenshots / videos? Both Xbox One and Wii U had convenient sharing options, on the press of the Home button. In Xbox One, it is also pretty deeply ingrained into the OS, with it automatically recording all gameplay at all time. I am pretty sure all three had this "idea" independently of each other, becaus of the growing narcissism / popularity of social media. Moving sharing from the home menu to a dedicated button is hardly an outstanding idea. Maybe being in all threads is not enough for you to get your posts up?

Elite 2 out dated because of not having a share button? ROFL.... Whatever. The battery on the elite 2 is phenomenal. I'm not even at a 1/2 battery life charge indicator and well over 50 hours on my initial charge. That plus all the customization and it will work on the next console. If that is outdated then I will take it.

Well Xbox battery life in general is excellent. I have Play & Charge batteries for all of my controllers.

I almost never get any interaction when I do share things to the PS4 feed, do you guys? Maybe I don't have the most PS4 friends but it seems like no one actually goes through the what's new feed.

Yup, I use it a hell of a lot. Maybe the people that don't use it just don't have much worth capturing!?

I have tons of memory in videos, clips and pics.

My finger got tired using it so much during Horizon. Also I used it to record fortnite and blackops wins.

I think the "xbox button" is a bigger innovation.
The share button does really make it any quicker.
Pressing the xbox button then y, is no slower then pressingvthe share button then pressing X, on ps4.

the share button is completely useless...
saving clips is already faster on Xbox One compared to PS4.

the only thing that's slightly faster on PS4 is starting a recording... which most people don't even use.

the most used feature is saving a clip of something cool or crazy that just happened, and to do that the steps you have to take on PS4 and Xbox One are almost identical.

on PS4 you press the Share button and hit Square.
on Xbox One you hit the Home button and hit X

literally 99% identical, the only difference is the menu that opens up while doing that.

and on Xbox One this is way faster than on PS4. in some games on PS4 you could literally sit there for up to 10 seconds (that's the worst I ever had to wait) until the greyed out Square button gets filled in, and only then can you actually save a clip.
on Xbox One, this never happens, you just hit home and X, done. super fast and you never have to wait.

ontop of that, you have way more control on Xbox One.
on Xbox One you hit Home and View (Select button equivalent), which opens a menu where you can chose to either start a recording, or you can chose the length of the clip you want to save... starting from the last 30 seconds, and going up to the last 5min.

on PS4 you have to go into the system settings to change the clip length you ant to retroactively record. and you can't change it on the fly.

so, in short... Xbox's share functionality is already either on par with the PS4's and in some areas even better...
and that without a share button...

so I don't fully get the need for one, I mean it makes stuff slightly faster I guess, but it wasn't necessary.

Are you the same weirdo that made a celebratory thread about the share button "finally" being everywhere even on Era?
Jesus Christ, you people are strange at times.

I can't honestly begin to imagine actually giving a shit, and that's both in positive ("I use it") or in negative ("Never used once"). I'ts just a default function for a button, not a fucking Copernican revolution.

That said, the share button on my PS4 Pro in my personal experience is that button that I always press by mistake when I'm absently trying to open a menu. Big fucking deal.
And if you're one of those guys that "share things very often on Facebook" here's a blunt truth: no one likes you and chances are half of your contact list considered blocking you at some point.

Don't agree at all. Ps4 share feature is way more convenient and faster. I have both systems BTW. Swit h does it the fastest though but thts just bcus it's function is very minimal.
