Star Wars favorite movies list: One more time, loud as you can, how does it GOOOO?

I love me some donald glover but i fucking hate her.
If she has a low screentime maybe i can give the film a chance...

It's not as bad as I expected but it still feels unnecessary, which is strange because I love Rogue One. Solo is decent and it does have a couple pretty cool moments.

1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTJ

The rest of the movies range from mediocre to insultingly bad so I ignore them for the most part. The best stuff outside the OT comes from books, video games, the CCG and other media - not the big screen.

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi

Release order, basically, except with episodes 2 and 3 swapped. It doesn't really matter all that much though. I only recommend the original trilogy.

I know most people feel Empire is the best film in the series and while I agree with that, it's actually #2 for me. I was fortunate enough to see A New Hope in theaters as a 6yr old and the movie had a huge impact on my childhood and it will always be my favorite.

1. A New Hope
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi

1. A New Hope.
2. Empire Strikes Back.
3. Return Of The Jedi.
4. Revenge Of The Sith.
5. Phantom Menace.
6. Attack Of The Clones.
7. Rogue One.
7. The Force Awakens.
8. The Last Jedi.

Not sure where the newest film will sit in that list. Hopefully pretty high but my expectations are super low. I have yet to see Solo, and don't think I will anytime soon. Just lost all love for Star Wars since Disney took over and fucked up the franchise I once loved...

I'm not a SW fan enough to be able to rate them all. Half of the movies I don't even remember and I haven't seen the latest one yet.

But what I do remember, those 3 movies from 1999-2000 or so must be the worst as I don't really remember them at all except Samuel L Jackson being blasted out a building like he's Superman without a cape.

I liked Solo and Empire's since it had the cool snow battle scene. The original movie with the death star battle with the fat guy porkins getting killed was a solid scene too even though it was shitty plastic models. And looking back, Carrie Fisher was hotter than I thought. I guess you don't realize this when you're a kid.

TFA was shit as it was basically a remake of the old movies. The movies from 15-20 years were shit as I remember alsmost nothing about them except Samuel Jackson and Jar Jar Binks.

Just rewatched the Despecialized Editions so the original trilogy is fresh on my mind.

1) Star Wars - Gained new appreciation for this one after watching the DE. Just a simple, well told story with great visuals.

2) ESB - Used to be my favorite, but watching it again, it was a little more boring than I remembered. Still a great movie.

3) RotJ - More enjoyable than I remembered. Everything involving the Ewoks is stupid as hell. Overall it was solid and well paced.

Not a fan of prequel trilogy at all. They're boring children's movies with laughably outdated CGI. Didn't even bother with the Disney movies. I'm not a big enough fan of Star Wars.

1. New Hope
2. Return of the Jedi
3. Empire Strikes Back
4. KOTOR 1
5. KOTOR 2
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. Phantom Menace
8. Attack of the Clones
9. The Force Awakens
10. Rogue Trader

Only seen TLJ once and don't remember a lot of scenes and still haven't seen Solo.

1. Empire Strike Back - it’s beautiful realized, it took what New Hope gave us and ran with it, brought in modern film making techniques (I consider A New Hope one of the last classically shot films, though edited a bit more modernly). ESB is like Prizoner of Azkaban in The Harry Potter fills to me, it’s the only Star Wars that feels like it’s not only a good Star Wars movie, it’s actually a great FIML period. The Vader/Luke fight is the most beautifully lit and shot scene in all of Star Wars and ranks up there against all the other great scenes in cinema history. Other Star Wars movies have great scenes, but not other Star Wars comes close to ESB.

2. Return of the Jedi - a very problematic film, very poorly directed and the DP did a pretty horrible job at times when compared to ESB. But even with that... that climax was insane. So good in fact it really does retroactively fix A lot of the films issues. It’s like a gymnast who makes several mistakes during her routine but absolutely nails the landing.

3. The Force Awakens: It was fun, it made me like Star Wars again. Yes it retreaded a lot, but I loved the idea of Finn’s charecter. Loved the looks and high production JJ out into it. It was a film with tons of flaws, did not stick the landing, butt I left the movie wanting more Star Wars.

4. A New Hope - I respect this film more than any of the others for what it did to cinema. That doesn’t mean I actually like it though. It meanders, it’s slow, it’s poorly acted, it’s cheap looking and feeling. It’s poorly shot, poorly lit, and its shot style is an inbetween modern and classical Hollywood, but honestly the worst of both. To slow, to little camera movement, very little use of depth and verticality. It’s basically a classically shot film in its dna and that hurts it in my mind, as the story cries out for the style of ESB. That’s why this is below TFA for me. Still I rewatch it and enjoy it. Everything needs a starting point and this was a great one.

5. The Rise is Skywalker - It has a lower grading curve due to TLJ basically showing us what a very bad film can be. Saying that, JJ did an amazing job on directing this crazy mashup of 2 films and recovering some semblance of sense. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s none stop, it’s funny and it has some really good scenes. I left feeling happy with Star Wars again. That’s a win.

6. The Phantom Menace - i hate it in every viewing, it’s my worst movie going experiance in history (walked out in disbelief about how bad it was). Somehow with time SOME of the film has aged better and feels nice... but I think that’s just because the other films are worse?

7. Revenge of the Sith - it’s bad, the people in this thread ranking it high make no sense to me. It still has all the bad directing and scripting if the prequels, most of its “good” scenes are poorly shot, half the film feels pointless, the other half is action packed but shot so laughably bad it feels silly to even think this film is in the same series that have us Empire Strikes Back. Lucas ruined this film. A good director could have made this film good, even with the same script.

8. Attack of the Clones - it’s bad, but it has some cool scenes. Lightsaber vs blaster in the rain, accustic bombs, obiwan being cool. Bad acting, bad GC, bad direction, bad sets, and bad casting made this the Cleveland Browns of Star Wars.

9. The Last Jedi - fuck this film.

Empire
A New Hope
The Mandalorian S1 yeah I slipped TV in here (good enough 4hr movie equivalent)
Return of The Jedi
Rogue One
Clone Wars by Genndy Tartakovsky - Compiled as a Movie
The Best Arcs of Clone Wars TV Show
The Best Episodes of Rebels TV show
A New Hope 2 - TFA (only now it doesn’t make sense since I have no interest in the sequels anymore so it slides down the list each year)
Revenge of The Sith
Solo
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace
Clone Wars The Movie

Holiday Special ( I don’t like this, it’s just a placeholder to put above the Last Jedi)

Last Jedi.

Haven’t seen TROS, won’t until it comes on Blu-ray or Disney+, can’t be bothered after Last Jedi pissed me off and I read the TROS leaks doesn’t matter how it looks onscreen, meh!

OP here. I edited in Rise of Skywalker. Middling movie which is sad since it is ending an era. Lots of good stuff with lots of bad. I’m more conflicted about this movie than the last Jedi (which I knew I hated it after watching it).

Where does TROS fit in for you?

Return of the Jedi
A new Hope
Rogue One
Solo
The Force Awakens
Attack of The Clones
The Phantom Menace
The Last Jedi

I was a HUGE fan of ROTS back when I was a kid. It was the highpoint of my SW hype back then. While Empire Strikes Back maybe better the memories are strong with Revenge of the Sith. Watching that giant space battle at the beginning of the movie with the drums at the start was something I will never ever forget....unless I get alzheimer.

I think that's my listing for the main 9 films at this stage. I need to watch RoS more though.
