Another report from technews.tw.

I can't read these weird signals so I'm using the dude tweets as translation.

Who the hell uses 1Q instead of Q1 :/
A culture that reads from right to left?
The script below you need to read from right to left.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Not irrelevant lol

Chineses uses 1Q instead Q1.

The Tweet itself is in English though, regardless of what language it's quoting

I hate this because I'm planning to buy a Switch for my wife to play Animal Crossing. I'd be super pissed if they released a better one immediately after.

Is your wife really going to care that she can't play Animal Crossing of all things at, say, 1080p rather than 720p?

But you said “a culture that reads from right to left” we read from right to left and we don’t switch things. So it’s irrelevant
We read from left to right... at least all Latin based languages.
But maybe you are from a non-latin language.

I will because I'll use the Switch too. I have another Switch but the SD card slot is broken so can't play any of my games on it and just let my kids use it to play downloaded games.

Original title article.

The translator is from Singapore that uses 1Q too.

It is suck a non-deal but let's complain about oversea cultures lol
It is basically what he (not you) does in every thread.

What about the Switch new hardware in production?

I think the most important part of this new Switch will be the, rumored, magnesium case. That'd make for a truly 'mature' device. For those who don't know, that's what Microsoft's Surface Pro is made with. Feels really good and highend.

It's too soon for a Switch 2, so I'd expect it to be a Switch Pro that runs games in slightly higher res/fps (NOT 4k lol). Maybe this is using the, same soc as the current 'new' Switch but with a focus on power. As we know, the current new Switch has a different soc than the launch Switch, but Nintendo put the focus on battery life (i.e. getting 5-6 hours of BotW instead of 2-3 on the original). This Switch Pro could be using the same chip at a higher tact, allowing for more power, but at the cost of battery life.

Considering it'd be a prosumer product, 3 hours would be ok for those interested, when the benefits are better graphics and a more elegant aesthetic.

I'd assume that this would be part of an overall strategy, including price drops. It could go like this:

- Switch M: 349 Dollar
- Switch regular: 249 Dollar
- Switch Lite: 149 Dollar

That'd be a massive attack on the market. A low entry point, a lower price point for the currently already successful model, and a premium price for a highend model.

I'd expect this to result in record sales, and put up a real headscratcher in Microsoft's and Sony's nextgen plans. Could be exciting - if it's true.

What can nVidia provide Nintendo for a Switch ‘Pro’? Minor clock speed bumps?
I can see nVidia providing something up to 1.5TFs in dock mode with their actual tech.
More than that I believe only if a Tegra Ampere is out.

You have to Gray. Beautiful console, got it’s own magic. Typical Nintendo

Ive owned every Nintendo console excluding the Virtual Boy. Im just running out of time to play all these games and consoles. I didnt use my 3DS as much as I wanted to, I would prefer a traditional console I guess.

Ill get one when BOTW2 comes out for sure, just a question if I get one before then or not!

Unless there's a power/cooling reason for docked mode, there's still headroom on the SoC to bump clocks up. There's also been new Tegra SoC's released since the X1 which is rather old considering how "new" the Switch is in comparison.

Suffers from extreme PDS
It’ll be interesting to see the power of it and if it has exclusive software like the New 3DS or just beefed up specs. If it’s a significant leap I’ll probably trade in my regular Switch and upgrade.

And for now I still don't see a nVidia SoC ready for a Pro version but everything can happen ;)

the current one? like... that thing is seriously underclocked...

the original Switch model runs its 1.8GHz CPU cores at a little over 1GHz... it runs its ~950MHz GPU cores at ~750MHz
and with the new Mariko revision of the X1 you can push the GPu clocks to around 1.3GHz and the CPU clocks go higher aswell I think.

so they could make the battery bigger and put in a more sophisticated cooling solution to max these clocks and you'd have a considerable performance boost just from doing that.

so in short a Pro Switch could do this:
use the current Tegra X1 Marico,
CPU: from 1GHz to ~2GHz,
GPU: from ~750MHz to 1,300MHz,
and maybe push the memory clocks aswell if possible,
In Portable Mode it could clock these down to the level of the Current Model's Docked mode and run games at base Switch's Docked Settings.

People keep talking Makito but anything over 1Ghz already extrapole the power draw and heat you need to Switch.
In any case that is why I said with current tech you can reach about 1.5TFs with Swirch docked but that is very very hard to happen.

...hate me...
Don't get your hopes up for a Switch Pro that is TV only. Switch is mobile hardware. Whether it's hooked to a TV or not has no bearing in its power ceiling because a docked portable console can have all the same benefits of a dedicated home console that is comprised of mobile hardware, and adds the benefit of being portable as well.

As such, a dedicated home Switch will simply be a more limited Switch, and like the Switch Lite, it can exist but as a budget option, being more os less what the Apple TV is for the iPhone. Add the fact that Nintendo isn't even promoting an ecosystem of multimedia apps to grow on the platform, it makes even less sense to have a dedicated TV version, that doesn't even run Netflix.

The flagship will remain a Switch that can switch.

the new Mariko chip is way more efficient compared to the old Tegra X1, which is why it almost doubled the battery life of the revision switch compared to the original model.
so I don't think clocking the chip at max speeds would cause much of an issue with cooling. especially if they use a slightly updated cooling solution (the rumored Magnesium Alloy body as part of the cooling solution)
and with a slightly larger battery it could get close to the battery performance of the original Switch model.

I think they could do it with the Mariko chip at max speed. it won't be a huge jump but almost double the clocks on both CPU and GPU will absolutely make a difference, especially in portable mode, where it then could run games at the base models docked settings... put in a 1080p screen so these games actually look as good as possible. done, you got yourself a Switch pro.

I still dont see it - A "Pro" version is the opposite of the audience they target - but good luck to those who want this*.

*Im Nindie focused for my daily use, so id purchase a pro but itd be far down my list.

Holiday 2020 makes sense to combat PS5 and X series. Add in BOTW 2 and Odyssey 2 and its the best Nintendo could do to keep a dog in the fight for next gen.

Then 2021 MK 9 comes out for the last hurrah for the Switch before Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo has up its sleeve) and then 2 years later MK 9 Deluxe will launch and sell another 20 gajillion units.

Edit - Add another article link.

Nintendo is the kinda guy to port the PowerPC 750 from 1997 (with some additions from the GC era) to a 2012 fabrication process.

I'm setting expectations no higher than a die shrunk 7nm TX1, which should at least be able to do the current docked mode when undocked with battery savings to spare, and then have a new higher performance docked mode, automatic win for a lot of games.

If it's Parker or something better, it's an unexpected surprise, but introduces dev complexity to take advantage of with different core types.
