Rift S is the next best thingI never really looked into the PC headsets, but last night I just had to check out some youtube videos for them. I know, Linus Tech Tips is lame, but his videos had a pretty good breakdown of the strenghts and weaknesses of each.
And in the end, surprise surprise, I want the most expensive one.
It looks very sweet from the video I watched. Its pricing almost doesn't make sense as it appears to be the 2nd best package you can buy yet is only $400 compared to $1000+ for the Index.Rift S is the next best thing
afaik the S has just as good bright LCD screens with almost no screendoor effect but at lower HZ. I can confirm since I've had S.It looks very sweet from the video I watched. My guess is that Valve revealed Alyx early to get people to buy up the Index at its current price and then will lower it dramatically for the actual launch of the game. And it'll still be way more expensive than the Rift S

I recently picked up the Rift S and I'm so glad I did, it's an incredible piece of hardware. I can't believe it was only $400 for as much as you get, it feels so premium. It definitely has to be a heavy loss-leader only possible by a company backed by a monolith like Facebook. It looks very sweet from the video I watched. The 3d stereo passthrough is mind blowing. Did they extended it past 5 minutes at a time? I loved setting screens in my room but 5 minute limit at launch was annoyingI recently picked up the Rift S and I'm so glad I did, it's an incredible piece of hardware. Oh for sure, it's a great feature. I haven't seen any limitations like that, they have a shortcut to toggle it on and off now so I don't imagine it has any time limitations. I'll give it a shot when I get home though! The 3d stereo passthrough is mind blowing. Did they extended it past 5 minutes at a time? I have to build a new PC before I get heavy into PC VR. My current build would leave me let down.I agree about the Rift S and especially index being top tier, but I think a great deal is the samsung. There were some deals for $200 and its a massive step up from psvr. A good middle ground unit but with budget pricing.

I like him as well, but I can definitely imagine most people just see a punchable face and annoying voice.I personally like Linus, nice personality.
^_^

Yeah, I don't like his hyperbolic bullshit to stand out on youtube. But, I feel like every youtuber is one-upping each other to have the dumbest looking thumbnails and most click-baiting statements, so I choose to believe he says dumb shit like that to cash in and not because he truly believed it.Until recently, Linus declared VR pretty much "dead". Nice to see VR's perception slowly turning around.
Alex Kipman, the chief visionary behind HoloLens-
“Had the great privilege to play Half-Life: Alyx at Valve yesterday. Most inspiring and immersive VR game I have ever experience and I have played a few,” he shared on Twitter.
They will bring the Game later as a non VR experience, 100%.
I of a lot of excitement for it because they of faith in VR. Do you of a VR headset? Maybe you should of one and then you can of this game too! This could of been HL3 :/ I dont mind VR getting an AA title but considering how much effort and detail went into this...it looks amazing and totally familiar HL wise.
Valve won't do that, maybe a mod if you're lucky. Being VR exclusive is Valve's entire strategy.
I will buy the VR Version anyway but we’re money is, there is hope. Let’s see.
I remember a guy who said RE4 is GCN exclusive and he will cut his head off, if the game will get a release on a other console.
Now, RE4 is the biggest slut of all videogames with a release on.
PS2, PC, IOS, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and NSW...

Valve could have made this game as non VR game to begin with and made way more cash. The audience for non VR is magnitudes larger.
This is a different animal they're pursuing.
Valve has skin in the VR business and wants to push it. Wouldn't make sense for them do undermine that. They will bring the Game later as a non VR experience, 100%.
It's AAA, and if we do ever get HL3, you can count on it being a VR game again. This could of been HL3 :/ I dont mind VR getting an AA title but considering how much effort and detail went into this...it looks amazing and totally familiar HL wise.
VR Hardware sales will rise and already did. They can make a lot of money with the hardware too.
New screenshots
The game would look so good in 4k... shame we will only experience it pixelated and warped ;/ But in vr which is cool in it's own way
Got my oculus quest. I’m so ready for this game, it’s like when I made my first pc to play half life 2.
Nope, the quest is my first Vr experience.Nice. Did you already have experience with VR previously?
I am starting to feel the hype a bit... Might want to rebuy S or get index (but that price sucks).
Anyone tested both? S was the only oculus headset in which I did not needed glasses or contacts and I am shortsighted (-1.5 both eyes).
Seems to me that S focal length is about 50-70cm. While cv1 was about 2 meters I think. What is for index?
Thanks. That sucks. I've also seen comments that index has worse god rays. I think if Alyx will turn otu good, I might get S... if it will not turn out way worse than index in alyxI think the Index focal length is a bit below 2 m, so it's probably comparable to cv1.
The game is releasing in a month, headset is not abailable and even when it is, it's 1100 euro.... I don't know about this but I would love to play it
yeah. Rift S should be good for this... Maybe I could pick it up againI'm wondering how much of an uptick the other headsets will see because of lack of availability. Quest seems to be in sold out everywhere too.
Some possible spoilers later in the vid
There's also rumor that gameplay footage will be dropping tomorrow.
Cannot wait.Very solid chance. I saw Ryan's tweet from IGN.
