Do you think SEGA will remaster Skies of Arcadia after they release Project Sakura Wars?

A gentle remaster with random battles removed would make it great. It would be like a Sega take on Grandia 1: the grand group adventure.

Don't remaster it. Remake it.

Higher res, better textures is lazy work.

At least do a complete graphical overhaul on top of the original like Halo anniversary did. no need to remake all of the programming.

But don't remaster.

This actually turns a "not so small" project into a "huge" project. Skies of Arcadia has a pretty stupid amount of content. The game is absurdly vast, tons of places, tons of enemies, tons of events etc... So much work to make a full remake, this would be like making an AAA RPG from scratch. This would probably be more expensive than Valkyria IV.

But yes, it would be awesome. In all cases, as I stated previously, this is a series that has great chances to come back.

You can probably guess from my avatar that I'd love to see either a remaster or remake but I doubt it will happen. Maybe Nintendo will release Gamecube games on the eShop and Sega could stick SOA Legends on there, but even that seems iffy to me. I'd be 100% OK with them proving me wrong, so here's hoping.

Loved the Grandia comment earlier. I always thought it was funny when Skies came out. It felt like it had much more of the spirit of the original Grandia story-wise and thematically than Grandia II did.

I'll also second a few others and add that the first Xenoblade on the Wii is also my favorite RPG from that generation forward. I've been such an evangelist for that game you'd think Nintendo and Monolith were paying me (I wish).

Sega staff never forgot.
Like Sakura, Sega Sammy probably said "no" until the 2016 fan favorite poll.

Imagine a remake by Valkyria/Sakura staff...

The art choices are still amazing at Sega (even when the graphics are not impressive)

personally, I'd take the Valkyria team making a new Shining Force before Skies, but yes both would please me immensely
Well, Camelot is producing endless Mario sport games for Nintendo. Let's release them from this sad fate. Let them make a new Shining.

In 2020, 2 Sega IPs of the previous poll will be 20 years old.

It's the right time, Sega. On top of that, Sega Fes 2020 will probably announce its date at the end of January.

It's not that I wouldn't welcome a remake if it actually happened, I would, but let's be realistic - they only remastered Jet Set Radio and the Shenmue duology and those games were more popular than Skies or Arcadia. It's more important that the original/enhanced port is made available to play on modern platforms like a lot of older overlooked games in my opinion.

Project sakura is supposed to be like a reboot for the series right? I'm interested in getting it if it comes to the USA. I know it has a big fan base but I know nothing about it, but the idea of it sounded interesting.

Maybe... But i think Sega cancelled Shenmue Remake for timing reasons.(they perhaps thought the remake would be finished after Shenmue 3).

Sega has great talent in-house for RPGs. It has always been the case, since they started making their own consoles back then with the Master System/MegaDrive.

I would really like to support Sakura Wars too, but I only have Switch/Xbox so it being PS exclusive is disappointing. Same thing for Atlus games by the way. I hope that Sega shifts their strategy to being multiplatform as much as possible.

So true. Even PC releases could be interesting for Sega. For instance, Yakuza Zero just sold 500K on Steam beating Valkyria Chronicles which was already a damn good performance.

Oh that's awesome. Itsuki Hoshi is the character artist for Skies of Arcadia and Kenji Hiruta the map programmer. It would be great if the higher-ups at SEGA took notice.

1. Sakura Wars OK
3. Virtual On OK
4. Shenmue OK
6. Panzer Dragoon OK

9.Streets of Rage OK

My personal guess (yellow = easy comeback, it will arrive soon. Orange = more difficult, it will be a thing but maybe not tomorrow. Red = Fuck Nintendo, Camelot and their exclusive partnership lol. Climax Sama, please, rise from your grave! )
2.Jet Set Radio
5.Virtua Fighter
7.Shining Force
8.Skies of Arcadia
10.Nights into dreams

I want it, been wanting it for ages.... it's the only "Dream" that hasn't come true yet.
Cast off in portable mode on the Switch I say.

Why do you think of JSR and VF as more difficult? JST was second by a very large margin, and its cell-shaded graphics mean that it doesn't need a huge graphical budget (I imagine Switch would be the target platform at 720/1080 30fps, with next gen consoles at 4k 60fps). I suppose it would cost more if they decided on a more open world design, but that wouldn't necessarily be the path they would take (after all, it didn't make the Mirrors Edge sequel any better, quite the contrary by most accounts).

It's been a long time since fighting games were at the cutting edge graphics-wise, so I don't think a new VF is that far-fetched either. I suppose they could put a different team on a new Shining Force.

Great news, there's a sliver of hope after all. I left a reply there.

Nice one, I would too if I had a Twitter account. Hopefully the positive response will be enough to convince Sega. A couple of years ago I would have been pretty cynical about its chances, but in the year we are getting SoR4, Sakura Wars, Panzer and HotD anything is possible!

I just think Yakuza Studio is over busy for a JSR game right now and Virtua Fighter requires cutting edge graphics.
On the other hand, Skies of Arcadia was a small team and Sega is still producing a few RPGs so it won't be that difficult, i think.

Nice twitts by the way !!!

I actually think they would hand any new JSR game to a smaller Western developer, as they have done with SoR4, Wonderboy, Panzer etc. I don't think they would ever do that with Virtua Fighter, it would definitely be an in-house Japanese team. While I would love to see a cutting edge VF6, when was the last time a fighting game was cutting edge? Dead or Alive 3 maybe? It's a shame.

Nothing is impossible, right? And I did not know there was a new The House of the Dead.

I wonder if they'll ever port Jet Set Radio Future to newer platforms. Actually surprised they haven't done so yet.

There are licencing issues.
Aaaargh. It's usually the main culprit in these things. I totally understand though. When they ported Crazy Taxi, I wasn't aware the soundtrack was different and so it took me by surprise. But it was still fun to play it again.

ChuChu Rocket! would be another great Dreamcast classic to see again. I always thought it'd have been perfect for PSN/XBLA but they decided to bring it to mobile instead. Same thing with Universe only coming to Apple Arcade.

Hendrick's

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
It would be my most anticipated remake ever and would fulfill a decades long dream of mine. Too bad it's Sega.

Chuchu Rocket and Sonic Racing were also coming to Google Play (2019 leak) but Apple paid for the exclusivity I guess.
But I agree, it's a shame it's limited to apple devices :/. Sega as a simple publisher was and will always be a torture for old fans.

X-Box players : "What the fuck ? Why those Playstation fuckers have Virtua Fighter 4 and not me ?"
Gamecube owners: "Jesus ! X-box ass holes can play Panzer Dragoon Orta !? I'm Jealous."
Playstation fans: "Holy shit. Why did you released Beach Spikers on Gamecube,Sega ? Mario suckers only buy Nintendo products, dumb ass !"

I want a new Virtua Fighter so badly 😢

I have to play Tekken by default (that i like, don't get me wrong) but my love goes straight for VF, absolutely no doubt it !

Give us Virtua Fighter 6, it takes too long....

The more I see project Sakura Wars, the more I'm convinced the Hedgehog Engine is quite a good fit for a Skies of Arcadia Remake.

I recall reading a quote by someone from SEGA who said Virtua Fighter 6 wasn't in their development pipeline. That was almost two years ago and I would like to believe they started development since then but it's just wishful thinking right now. I used to play Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2. It looked great, ran smoothly, beautiful menu and sound.

Eternal Arcadia was a fantastic game. Been a few years since I last played it but loved it to death since it came out. It is actually my grandfather's favorite RPG and he keeps a Dreamcast hooked up to this day to replay it. Never played the GameCube version of it though. I keep my Dreamcast stored carefully in case his ever stops working (emergency!). A remaster on a newer platform would be a great relief.

I think a remake would be more likely than a remaster at this point, and I think a sequel is much more likely than a remake.
