No, people like myself, are going on about how people who are saying how MS is copying Sony, are stupid.
While you try to argue back that sony copied MS..... Leave the fan boy shit at the door.

Ms had some of the same talking points sony had already laid out from their wired article. That's all it is. No need to get defensive and fangirl out to protect Microsoft. They are doing a damn fine job right now

He is clearly refering to Starfield. Bethesda.

Bethesda is a pipe dream, especially for Sony. Bethesda and Rockstar are way too big on their own to even want to sell off. And if they did, it would be to MS who has xbox and pc as platforms. Not to mention, MS is the one has shown they can and are willing to sling that sort of cash around for assets. Not to mention, Sony doesnt need it. Bethesda would be way too big of an investment for a company who is doing just fine in 1st part games as it is.

I dont see anyone buying Bethesda (certainly not Rockstar) but if any of them were going to it would be MS looooong before Sony

Some people here were saying "no way it costs Sony $30M to go to E3!!", and then I saw this over at the other place:

I love all the people baking at the rumored $30m and $60m price tags for E3.

Even back when I did reporting on E3 and TGS, we would regularly hear numbers like $20m to $30m for booths. This was back around 2006.

To understand how those numbers are a thing, you need to understand what goes into a show like E3 for a studio or publisher.

Aside from the fees for floor staff, booth space, etc... You also have to pay for space and rooms in the basement where all the real business meetings around E3 are held.

Beyond this, for a company like Microsoft or Sony, you have to pay dozens of full time and contract employees for easily 3-5 months to work on your show presence. This includes planning, design, manufacturing, and setup of every single little thing you see on the show floor. Most of it is custom designed and built for each individual show. All of stations people line up to play at are built to extreme levels of tolerance to be able to stand up to whatever abuse convention goers throw at them. This is not cheap.

Making a simple flat hanging sign and getting it hung on the show floor can easily cost $15,000. Now imaging making one that is circular, multi-layered, covered on lights or LED displays, and making sure it is solid enough, safe enough, and sturdy enough to get hung at the show. Then getting it raised up.

In addition to flying out, feeding, and housing all your employees and contractors you also need to coordinate meetings and events with tons of other studios and publishing houses. This isn't just a couple days to party and show off games. E3 is a business gathering. Outside of TGS business days, E3 is pretty much the only place where so many studios send top talent and you can arrange group meetings in private without risk of exposure. Part of what you are paying for is the opportunity that these business gathers present.

Never underestimate just how much work can be done in a simple high pressure 15m meeting at a convention like E3. I have heard of entire deals being proposed and negotiated at E3 between publishers and studios that never even met before. Sure, the contracts are signed months later, but the deals wouldn't have occurred without both being at the show.

When I see people talking about all the ways that money could be spent better, it is clear to me few of them have ever been on the business side of something like E3. The money isn't just paying for the show presence. Saving the money isn't just saving some marketing expense. Not being at E3 is also an opportunity cost. You miss the opportunity to meet with your peers across the industry, get to know each other, build lasting relationships, and potentially create and release amazing new games together.

I am a technical director in the trade show industry. I coordinate the AV that gets installed on tradeshow booths(mostly medical shows) You have no fucking idea the work that goes into these booths. It's a multi million dollar industry. It's like indoor construction. Hundreds of workers working for a week nonstop to get things up and running.

That stuff you posted is bullshit. There's no doubt deals get done at E3, but conflating the amount of money spent on booths with deal making is ridiculous and bone-headed. There is nothing stopping someone from Sony being at E3 even if they don't have a booth. It's not like Sony need a bloody booth for potential partners to know who they are.

Thanks for posting that anyway man.

After the first showing in February of 2013, bestbuy opened pre orders. At the mission valley store here in San Diego I was the 3rd person to do it unveil night

Right after e3 2013 is when they went up.

half of it was empty space last year, and half of the filled space was taken up by gamer chair manufacturer, lol. I think there were like 30 of them..

there is a reason most of the big companies left e3, and it isnt because they are run by morons who dont know how deals get done.

thx for posting tho, i do like when best of ree gets posted here.

if they show something in febuary ,you think they will open preorders that day as-well or Later?

I can see Amazon opening up for pre-orders the day after the official announcements. Amazon usually have pre-orders up if they know that they new system or game will be coming out this year. And in the PS5's case, it has already been announced by Sony (with the latest being at the CES2020) that the system will be out this Fall.

Yep I don't expect pre orders until price and date is announced that be early summer I'm guessing. That could change since Sony is taking their ball and going home so to speak.

Sony won E3 when they didn't even attend

They went in 2018; 2019 is the one they skipped. That snippet is about 2018.

And now those workers have less work and less potential money to make because Sony is skipping E3. That's great.

Some people get it.

YouTube view doesn't mean much at the end.

Death Stranding has over 8.5m views for the trailer and yet was outsold greatly by Luigi's Mansion 3 with 3.3m views trailer. Luigi's Mansion 3 is tracking to reach 10m sales barrier while Death Stranding ... 5m is very unlikely at this point. The same could be applied to pretty much all of Nintendo games trailer view except Labo vs Sony PlayStation trailer views in this Generation.

It's the same with the reveal of PS5 logo. People kept pointing out the amount of views and likes on Instagram or Facebook compared to the XSX reveal, but if you looked at Google trends, Xbox was searched way more than Playstation... These numbers can always be used in anyone's favor.

Yeah that was really dumb, people used social media views and likes as the ultimate indicator. Based on those views and likes ratio it seems PS5 is going to sell 4-5 times more than XSX. Even when Microsoft was fucked badly at the start of PS4/XBO gen with specs and tv fiasco, PS4 only managed to sell just over 2 times of XBO sales at the end.

There's no denying the social media presence could be part of the equation and I also have predicted PS5>XSX for the the next gen sales number but this time around the battle will be much closer than before.

True .

I don’t give a shit how many each company sells, they need to sell enough to stay in business. I have no stock in those companies, I do in funds.

Doesn’t Xbox One series sold more than X360 same period.

as long as the give me great entertainment I am set. Don’t get that while my preferred brand sells the most 🤣

Maybe Konami can take Sony’s place back at E3. Bring back 1 miwwion troops guy to tell us about new pachinko machines and Metal Gear Survive 2.

Social media presence can gauge interest on your product , its not definitive statement on anything. What is definitive is PS4 selling north of +106m units and being the second highest selling console of all time behind PS2 and ahead of PS1. Notice how the three most selling consoles of all time are all Playstations, now that's a definitive statement on brand power.
