UPDATE: Full script of the first draft has leaked

now that this has been independently verified by a number of sources, it seems to recent leak of the Star Wars IX draft is legit. the opening crawl leaked earlier and Robert Meyer Burnett has gone into detail with what happens in the movie on youtube.

the subtitle of the movie would have been "Duel of the Fates", which is not bad IMO. the movie itself would have been vastly different. some things of note:

- no Emperor Palpatine other than a hologram. no Rey Palpatine.
- Rey’s parents killed by Kylo nd Knights of Ren, on order of Snoke.
- Mortis reference is there plus a giant tentacled monster named Tor Valum who trains Kylo in Dark side.
- movie begins w Finn, Rose and Rey assault on FO orbital shipyard & they steal a Star Destroyer.
- Rey has to go to Jedi Spire on Coruscant to broadcast a new Leia message.
- Chewbacca flies an X-Wing.
- Rey battles the Knights of Ren.
- Rey kisses Poe, uses force on him soon after.
- Hux comedically tries using the force and secretly collects lightsabers, and kills himself w one of them.
- ghost Luke talks to Kylo.
- Kylo has a vision of his younger self talking to Han Solo and killing him.
- Grey Jedi is a thing.
- R2 gets blown up & carried by 3PO a la ESB.
- later they repair him and Leia boots R2 up by inserting a new chip in a scene recalling her famous hologram.
- R2 ends up running thru his memories of the OT, playing back things from his perspective.
- Kylo fights Darth Vader in a vision, ends up having a Sith device destroy his face, he gets Mandalorian armor implanted into his face.
- no Ben at all. no redemption. no Anakin. Kylo dies.
- Luke taunts him and tells Kylo "You're no Skywalker". (ugh.)
- Leia still sacrifices herself for Kylo, who gives his life force to Rey, kind like in ROS.
- Rey takes a trip to Jedi Heaven (LOL)
- Rey has a last name! Rey Solana.
- movie ends on a ranch named Modesto (!) where Finn & a bunch of kids get ready to train new gen of Jedi

It's less bad then what we got but not by much. With some cuts and alterations it has a chance of working. I wouldnt bet on the right choices being made though considering how completely inept jurassic world 2 was.

Still a mess but a better mess than the finished film. I give it a potential to be ok/10. TROS is just bad on the other hand. If this "leak" is true of course. I would need Variety and THR to confirm it to totally believe this. So I say this is a 50/50 type deal. Maybe lower. But it sounds fan-fic-y enough to be true. This is also a first draft spec-script so you can´t totally rip it apart at this stage.

Rey x Finn, huh. I wonder if the actors could have pulled it off and who in the story group suggested this take on Mortis (from CW). Still, better than Reylo and Kylo even stays bad! Just like Jacen Solo:

More info on a 2nd draft: http://makingstarwars.net/2020/01/i...-connollys-final-star-wars-episode-ix-script/
Things clearly evolved and there is more overlap with the current TROS on which Trevorrow is credited as one of the 4 writers.

Making SW is legit. I believe this now and this is also better than the current script. Most misguided fanwank is better than the current script.

Edit: The Spire of Isis. Lol. Will the Black Adam film also feature his lover Isis?

some parts i like some parts i don't. i never liked the idea of Luke haunting Kylo and that's in here.

i love Rey's lightsaber, which is kind of a half staff half lightsaber. shame that they never tried to do anything better than Kylo's with the ST.

the intro with the giant space ring with Star Destroyers attached (like a punk rock braclet) sounds cool.

certain elements sound like they wound up in the final movie, like them meeting up with an informant. ultimately tho even if they green-lit this, there's no telling what scenes they would cut or what changes they would have made.
This is also a first draft spec-script so you can´t totally rip it apart at this stage.
yeah for sure. it's feasible that this could be an amazing script and they green-light it and then hamstring the director/writers at every turn, cutting scenes, inserting demands, and it just turns out an out even worse movie.

Man, why did Carrie have to fall off the wagon?

This version of IX sounds fucking awesome and actually would have built upon TLJ instead of pulling whatever the fuck JJ did and almost ignore it. I really hope several ideas (like the Lovecraftian ancient Sith lord) are recycled for future shit.

However, that last draft Trevorrow was involved with before he was canned...

There's already some of TROS in here and it shows. This is way more mediocre than the first draft.

The 2nd version is a less tone dead TROS #Phonepunk# #Phonepunk# . See my link. TLJ is left alone, Rose gets stuff to do. Palps is still dead. Etc. Darth Plagueis huh.
I now get why Trevorrow needed to be credited for the final film. JJ and Terrio didn´t have time to write a script from scratch as sets were being built and whatnot so they just started to work from where the last people in charge left off. Derek Connolly is also credited:
He co-wrote all 3 JW script. So 2 out of the 4 credited writers are Trevorrow people but only JJ and Terrio took part in the press tour. Well, all 4 put us on the path we are now. Thank Zodd that the ST behemoth is done. I really had enough. On to better (SW) things.

I trust Jason Ward (he liked TROS btw). The 2nd draft has to be legit. For all who wonder how fans currently feel on SW fansites right now, regardless of what they feel about the ST:

The ST tie-in Star Wars Resistance stayed a mess all the way through btw. I only have it running in the background. 5/10

That would have been interesting to see R2 play back his memories of the original trilogy from his perspective.

I've never heard of Gray Jedi before but reading up on it a bit sounds like there could have been some potential there.

That sounds absolutely terrible. I think even the grass is greener on the other side internet can't like this. RIGHT?!

The bare bones of the story make sense here at least.

RoS? Palpatine survived being exploded, his fleet loses because starships can't go upwards without a beacon, Rey meets Lando solely because of a festival that occurs every 40 years or something, Rey can easily heal people with the Force. . .

The only completely retarded thing is Kylo having killed Rey's parents. I bet JJ wish HE had though of that.

I like it because it at least tries to work with what was left behind after TLJ.

Don’t get me wrong, I hated TLJ and if I was asked to pin the blame for the way this whole trilogy panned out on one person, it’d be Johnson for sure. But RoS was just so uninspired. I’m sure a good chunk of that can be blamed on Disney and their strict release schedules and meddling, but eh.

Sounds kind of blah to be honest.

IMHO TLJ already broke Star Wars, instead of trying to fix it they should have just rolled with it and made it even more "subversive". ie make Rey turn to the dark side and Kylo turn to the light side, and everyone dies at the end.

Should have planned the trilogy from the start instead of making shit up and sticky taping a bunch of movies together.

Just comparing different types of turds at this point

I thought that one of the reasons Trevorrow departed was because he planned for Luke to be alive in Episode IX and Johnson spoiled that with TLJ. Was this draft written in the short time after Episode VIII while he was still attached? Seems a bit implausible.

I agree it all seems a bit fan-fic-y and ends with more of a whimper than ROS does. If it is legit then Episode IX was doomed from the start.

It seems OK but really there is no way to know how it would have turned out.

I am always pushing the idea that they should have tried to keep in simple in the sequels and again here it just sounds like a bit of a mess with too much going on.

The problem any version of Episode IX would have to face is that it needs to follow TLJ and that movie was just an awful follow up to TFA.

I can't believe that in a decade where Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptation is considered the best fantasy movie, and wins a load of awards, that they could not take some inspiration or instruction from that trilogy.

Plan things out in advance. Film everything all together with your reshoots and effects work taking place as the movies release. Then release one movie per year for 3 years.

Instead they took a very disjointed approach by not planning things in advance, switching up directors in between episodes and having people be on strict deadlines while simultaneously demanding that the scripts and stories be reworked repeatedly.

The whole thing was poorly managed and I honestly feel like the whole "actually Star wars fans are assholes and bullies who will never be happy" thing that cropped up is an attempt to avoid taking responsibility.

It's clear Disney didn't have a plan in mind for these movies, they were banking on "at least we are not George Lucas whom made the prequels" from the start.

I bet Disney is kicking themselves for not combining the resources and talent of Rogue One and TFA to make a far superior Episode VII.

Release date for Ep VII should have been in 2016 giving Arndt more time to write a script.

it is really sad. kind of amazed this isn't even part of the conversation. could be a teachable moment. perhaps they don't want to "tarnish her name" but it seems like she was partying until the very end
A full report from June 19, 2017, stated that Fisher had cocaine in her system, as well as traces of heroin, other opiates, and MDMA.
So even in the older version Finn would not lay the pipe, huh? Even Poe has more chances than him.

I guess it sounds slightly better. If nothing else I'll take bad new ideas over bad nostalgia pandering

The damage was done by the last jedi and lucas films reaction to the fans afterward. No script could salvage that disaster of a film. The entire franchise irrevocably damaged and i dont think Disney can put humpty dumpty back together again.

That doesn't sound any better than the shit we got, ugh. Now the only hope they have is Mandalorian and, if the rumors are true - Old Republic.

Force Ghost Luke appears to Kylo. Luke: "You've lost Ben." Luke confronts Kylo. Luke: "Darth Vader was weak. His love for his family saved them. I wish I could save you." Kylo: "I did what I had to do." Luke: "You are no Skywalker."
this is the exchange where im really glad they didn't use this. cos consigning Luke to an afterlife of tormenting his nephew and being a jackass sounds like hell to me. would have ruined an already ruined character IMO.

i don't like the idea of the last Skywalker being cut off from redemption. ROS worked for me. characters don't need to be redeemed before the whole galaxy, just one or two characters. it's not about reputation, it's about action. Vader's hypothetical post-ROTJ reputation didn't matter, it was his action that redeemed him. Kylo sacrificing himself to take out the Emperor still has the Skywalker bloodline taking him down. his act is what redeems him. without any redemption, it's just a total snuffing out.

lol you mean
Rose: "Rich folks don't spend much time thinking about who and what they're standing on."
totally agree

on the plus side she get tortured in this one. serves her right after what she did to Finn in TLJ.

Yeah, that's just....urgh. The fact that CT actually wanted to carry on that shit from TLJ is enough to make me happy he didn't get it. I suppose it is comparing shades of shit, ultimately.

The rest of it is just this weird, un-star wars-y moral grey areas. Not really the venue for Jungian ideas about embracing the shadow self.

One thing I have to say.
This script is from 2016 from what I understand.
With Rose being a main character and Luke being a force ghost in this script, doesn't that prove that they did have a basic story plotted out?

some good some bad. We don't know how much Disney would of meddled. Consider the rumors of 20 different cuts for TROS they would of mangled and changed the script 10 times over.

Also film is a visual medium so it depends on how it would of looked on screen.

Either way hollywood is full of hacks.

Definitely sounds worse than what we got, which wasn't very good either.

That sounds terrible too.

Did Colin collaborate with Rian Johnson at all on the script? I would like to hear his thoughts on how he decided to continue where Rian left off.

Holy cow. They dodged a bullet there. As insane as that sounds.

The second one doomed them but that leaked script is just bad news.

Maybe not plotted out beat by beat, but at least initially it was to be a well executed game of exquisite corpse where the lines safely overlapped.

Abrams and Johnson read each other's script with Johnson asking Abrams to switch out BB-8 for R2 at the end of Force Awakens. It's very safe to assume the same happened between Johnson and Trevorrow for that first draft of IX.

Then Carrie died.
