Sony have become incompetent

Releasing games on PC is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I'd be surprised if it becomes a common thing with new releases. One of PlayStation's biggest appeals is its first party content. Release those games on other platforms and what then becomes the point in owning a PlayStation? Let MS do that. You're giving console gamers even more reason to jump ship to PC. Seems like a dumb move to me.

Software is where the money is at, this is a smart move by Sony if they wait until 6 months to a year to release on PC and not day and date with console. Fans have been asking for Bloodborne for PC.

Games nowadays drop to $20 within 1 year, it's a good move to release it at $60 on PC.

no, the money for Sony is on PSN and royalties for Physical disk on million of third party software licensed by Sony. This is the dumbest move for Sony.

Sony will force to PS4 users to buy PS5 for their new games later this year at the same time they are porting their games to PC because they want expand their user base? its pretty illogical for me, unless Sony has been seeing their clients like milking cows.

Besides, what will happen if Microsoft is letting to install windows on their new console? Buying a Xbox Series X and playing first party Sony games on it would be huge disaster for PS5

In the last 2 years, I have seen PlayStation allow great games to be reviewed before final patches, duck out of E3, let all of Quantic Dreams games go to PC along with funding Death Stranding and let that also go to PC.... now Horizon Zero Dawn is the latest to go to PC.

The direct type 'State of Plays' are boring and have zero personality and right now, it looks like they fired anyone that was liked by the community.

There are many credible rumors of PS5 coming in under the performance of Series X, the latest leaked design is hideous and looks incredibly cheap.

I have absolutly no confidence in the current direction that PlayStation is heading, if they continue to make their games multiplatform... I think many will just stop buying their hardware. I am certainly seriously considering this...

I wonder how many of the PlayStation owners on Gaf feel about the current direction?

You need to come back again when you have something other than just that. Like some actual real reasons. I'm not trying to offend you but really that stuff means absolutely nothing at all.

They are all mostly separate points that I feel devalue a platform that has been built up over 25 years.... built on the idea of exclusive content, 1st party studios and a walled garden.

So they just bulldoze the garden and build a free carpark?

Do you think there's any possibility come next Xmas that parents end up buying the older version of the Xbox on accident for their kids because there's no logical connection between Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox X1, and Xbox Series X?

Microsoft cannot even provide their customers with a logical enough name to make buying the product easy. If you can't get the simple details right, how are you going to handle the complicated ones?
Unless you own some of their shares, I think you must have a lot of time on your hands to worry more than Microsoft about whether or not their customers can differentiate between their products. Never mind those products were released a minimum of 3 years apart each and that a price gap from 200 to 350$ will exist between them. Please don't project your personal level of cognition onto the average person that works hard for their money.

Eco systems is the biggest bollocks ever. Sony doesn't have an eco system. No one does. They have 100million ps4 out there. Thats it.

And they make money of third party developers who publish their games on ps4. First party games are there to sell playstions. The more playstations you sell, the more third party games you make money of.

Without 100 million playstations they have nothing. They are not going to get a 30% cut(or whatever the fuck it is) on fifa 22 on pc. Because EA has their own "eco system" or more appropriately a fucking online store.

The more attractive pc becomes, the quicker we will see cheap as shit gaming console like pcs that run gta, cod, fortnite.

While I think OP is getting a bit too far ahead of thyself.

The PS2 was crazy popular and successful and Sony made serious mistakes with the PS3. The PS4 has been crazy popular and successful. Will Sony get careless and too ambitious with the PS5? Or did they learn from their mistakes transitioning from PS2 to PS3? This I feel is a more logical grounds for concerns.

As a Sony FanMan myself (no I dont use fanboy cuz its GHEY) I am a little concerned.

However OP at the end of the day your allegiance is to yourself first. Is the Product your buying with your hard earned money and is it a good quality and enjoyable? That is what ultimately matters.

The Wii U failed for other reasons. I don't believe it's because people thought it was a Wii accessory. But anyway, at launch the series X will be 500 and the X 250. That should hive most reasonable people an idea of which is which, if nothing else does. There's also something called return policies but let's pretend as if you've never heard of that.

So you say that Guerilla Games (if they're the ones to publish the PC version, we don't know it) aren't getting any money from the sales of their product because... I don't know, tell me. Mind you, GG is a subsidiary of SIE.

I'll tell you a shocking thing. Can you bear it? Every console game ever will eventually come to PC via emulation. Like EVERY GAME EVER RELEASED ON ANY PLATFORM. Try to process this, breath steadily, you can do it.

Besides, what will happen if Microsoft is letting to install windows on their new console? Buying a Xbox Series X and playing first party Sony games on it would be huge disaster for PS5
Well, then maybe I'll consider buying Xbox Series whatever instead of another custom PC when the current one craps out (which will be sooner or later as it's 6 or 7 years old, I don't remember). Also then you'll be able to play PS1-PS3 (maybe even PS4) range of exclusives on emulators under Windows. Isn't future lit?

Now think about people who want to play games when they are released, not 3 or 10 years later. Suckers, right?

100+ million plus userbase
12.8 billion dollar revenue generated in 2018 for Playstation Network more than Xbox and Nintendo combined.
30+ million PSN subscribers.
Now they're looking to potentially expand this to the PC market with their highly rated exclusive games which should aid in generating even more revenue.
Yep. That is a whole lot of incompetence alright.

Just play the games mate.

I just said, the last two years. Maybe even just the last year and a half. Before that they were doing great...
This idiotic chasing of XBox and what they are doing really makes no sense.

When you buy a GTA or RDR from Rockstar, Resident evil from Capcom, etc on PlayStation (PSN or Disk) Sony is getting a 30% profit. If PS5 become useless because you can get a powerful PC and play those games, you will not buy the game to Sony, you will get RDR 2 on Steam, Sony would lose a 30% of profit.

Its maths, less consoles = less sold games = less profit. I think this will affect to PS5 sales.

I think HZD on PC is a test, to see how well it will sell. They saw the numbers Halo MCC got on steam and they've also seen how well GTAV and RDR2 perform even though they release on console first.

This is a way for Sony to still squeeze some money out of 3 year old game.

It might even be a chance for Sony to disturb the PC store ecosystem a bit, by e.g. releasing only on Epic store. Not with single game of course, but if this comes more common.

If done wrong this can devaluete the PlayStation brand.

Personally being a huge PS fanboy, I would prefer them keeping exclusives exclusive... 🤔

Build a PC, get your XGS exclusives day 1 on PC along with the major third party games....wait a few years for your PS5 exclusives.....and not deal with XBL/PS+ yearly subscriptions....

If it wasn't for everything being all digital, I would be all in PC right now

Honestly, to say they're incompetent is a bit much IMO. "Exclusives" going to PC shouldn't negatively impact them as a brand whatsoever, especially since their console already got the attention they wanted from said exclusives.

Folks liked by communities being let go or fired could be for many reasons. Ones that we may never know about, nor should we really have to, it's really none of our business. I mean, they can give off a great personality and vibe that the community likes, but behind closed doors maybe they're quite the opposite. It's certainly possible.

The quality of the state of plays have been a bit all over the place, but I also think they're still trying to feel a number of things out, and that's not a bad thing. Especially while ramping up for the next gen. It's always kind of a weird time.

The PS1 and PS2 were phenomenal consoles, the PS3 (IMO) wasn't the greatest, but they were able to come back around with the PS4. I think they're fully aware that there are a TON of eyes on them hoping that they deliver in the best way possible, but we'll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

I'm always excited about next gens. I'm even more excited about this one as I feel like Microsoft have been kind of left in the dust for awhile now. But it could be anyone's game, at least from where we're currently standing.

As someone that doesn't really favor a particular brand/company, I'm really hyped to see where this all goes.

Why would I buy a much more expensive PC to play the same games if I can play them on a console? Why would I rent games on Steam if I can buy them for similar prices on PS5 and exchange them for other games when I'm done with them? Do you realise consoles are popular for those and many other reasons? Exclusivity is one of them but it's not the only one. Besides, has anyone announced NEW Sony exclusives coming to PC? The drama is hilarious.

Not really. Most PS4 owners did not play the game.
Lord knows I didn't. 🤷‍♂️

I'm REALLY not understanding the rage regarding "exclusives" coming to PC. The whole Death Stranding thing practically caused a meltdown. Now people are freaking out about Horizons? It's been out forever....

To each their own of course, but I don't get it. Console players still have their consoles, PC players still have their PCs. I personally don't see a problem with sharing an awesome game experience with a broader audience (other platform).

just a year late on PC.

If they can subsidize partially the R&D of the PS5, by selling 3 to 5 year old exclusives on the PC.. why not? I´m no double-nor-tripple-dipper ... others might find them fancy, fancy enough to make the jump on PlayStation 5 come next winter.

They sold like 10mill. copies in two years. And also f#ck you Genki!

It's all about console wars. People should play more instead of ranting/doing hot takes. Leave the business decisions to the game companies, your job is to have fun.

The people who built that are not in charge. Anyone could of taken over from the great launch team who Sony needs back desperately. Now it is a bunch of empty suits riding the success of what others built. I'm happy they have not messed up the studios but they are trying to mess up everything else to prove they are better than House and crew.

Oh, totally! I wholeheartedly agree!

I just really don't understand the "passion" behind that mindset. At 35, it just feels incredibly childish to me. I mean, the rage from Death Stranding was absolutely ridiculous, and so many of these "fans" looked my age or older. Many of them talking about how they gave up on Sony, how much they hate them, and how much they shat on their entire fan base and community. I don't understand how such true fans were so quick to dismiss their favorited platform. All because a decision was made to bring that title to another platform?

It all just feels so incredibly overdramatic.

I mean, it almost feels like an argument where children bicker over whose mother or father is better. Who cares? Lmao.

Why not just let people enjoy what they enjoy, and you enjoy what you enjoy?

Personally, I think it's awesome seeing this happen across all platforms. 🤷‍♂️

Cross post from spec thread:

Ok, so this is from that russian guy who predicted/leaked DS on PC, HZD on pc, and CP2077 delay via ree:

The Russian is Anton Logvinov. He correctly called Death Stranding coming to PC before it was announced, Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed, and Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC (He even said it would be announced around early year, around February). I couldn't find anything he said about BOTW coming to PC though, but I haven't had enough time to translate all of his videos yet. It seems like he has at least some insider feeding him info. The only prediction that he has made for the next gen systems is this one though: https://bgr.com/2019/12/23/xbox-series-x-might-have-a-huge-advantage-over-the-ps5-at-launch/
From that article: "Logvinov claims the PS5 will not have a single major exclusive at launch, offering buyers enhanced versions of popular PS4 exclusives instead. The Xbox, meanwhile, will get anywhere between 12 to 16 exclusives right on day one, although not all of them will be major releases."

Osiris is right, ms is killing it, it in this case being the ps5 launch.

Its funny because I just filled a survey out about my time with PSNow on PC and i told them my reason for not renewing was the piss poor PC streaming and that if they offered games natively I would renew.

They must have listened.

Youre welcome.
Ha i said the same on the survey. I told them to wake up and join the future, exclusives are a dated concept.

Well, you would get a fully patched complete edition. With all DLCs, all patches etc. Much better performance and price for a third of the price. Why not?

And honestly the blacklog is so huge anyways. Wouldn’t even notice
I think i got the complete edition for 10 bucks this holiday...i'll have to double check. My backlog is ginormous, admittedly. Still if it's a game im really excited about like God of War...there was no way I was waiting a year or two to play that.

I don't see any issues with Sony releasing old first party games on PC. It's another stream of revenue for them to help fund more amazing games. It would be silly if they released brand new games day and date on PC though. That's the reason I am hesitant to buy Xbox consoles, because the games can be bought on PC. And with MS now open to Steam I am even less hesitant in buying an Xbox console.

Death Stranding wasn't a first party game so a 6 month delayed release (or whatever it is) is perfectly fine to me. I haven't bought the game on PS4 though, I am waiting for the PC release.

Console power wise.
*The Xbox was more powerful than PS2.
*The PS3 was more powerful than X360 but due to it being so hard to program for, most 3rd party games looked better on the X360 for the majority of the generation. First party Sony games looked better than first party MS games due to the talent in the studios.
*The XBX is more powerful than the PS4 Pro. Even with this fact, PS4 exclusive games still look better than XBX exclusive games due to the talent that Sony have in their studios.
Console power is a none issue.

The only thing that I am annoyed at Sony about is them censoring Japanese games. They should leave it up to the ratings board.

Hahaha now it’s a smart move. When MS does it it’s a shitty movie and a reason NOT to buy an XBOX, now Sony does it and its a SMART MOVIE.
These mental gymnastics. Wow

Honestly its the same shit, but since sony has the better (it is what it is) exclusives, it is viewed as if they have more to lose.

While on planet earth EVERYONE on pc would love to have access to them xclus's. Mo players Mo money.

Son, MS releases day and date with PC and gamepass, that's a bad move.

Edit: Tell me again how did Gears of War 5 do both on Xbox and Steam again? Thought so.

I really hope that Im wrong, but it doesn't look like you stop to think before you posted that.
