With the next Xbox, Microsoft has a 4-part strategy to end the console wars once and for all. Here's how it plans to do it.

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Here's how Microsoft plans to do it:

1. Microsoft doesn't mind if you don't buy its new Xbox console, as long as you buy the game.

Do you want to play games on an Xbox? A PC? Your phone? Microsoft wants to reach you there — ideally across all three.

To that end, Xbox has major initiatives across all three platforms: a new game console (Xbox Series X), a cloud gaming service (Project xCloud), and a Netflix-like gaming service (Game Pass).

2. The new Xbox is just the latest box, not a whole new ecosystem.

The next Xbox console will play Xbox One games. It will also play all the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games that already work on the Xbox One. It will also work with all the current Xbox One accessories, from gamepads to fight sticks.

3. Going forward, it's just "Xbox."

The Xbox Series X is part of the fourth generation of Xbox consoles from Microsoft, following the original Xbox, the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One generations. It's a real murderer's row of bizarre names.

The Series X, however, isn't a whole new line of Xbox consoles — it's just the name of the latest in the Xbox console brand.

4. With Game Pass, Microsoft could win the race to create the first major "Netflix of gaming" service.

For a monthly fee, Netflix offers subscribers an instant library of content. Some of that content is produced by Netflix, and some isn't. You don't need to download any of the content — it just streams to your device.

Thus far, no company has had success with a comparable service for gaming. There are a few services that offer streamed video games, like Google Stadia and PlayStation Now, but neither has really taken off.

It seems pretty simple when you're not trying to be disingenuous on an internet forum to make things which aren't appear convoluted and confusing.
As I always say there are those that want to create a narrative that doesn't exist. Trying to create confusion over nothing all because its not there favorite corporations box or business model. Strange indeed.

if they dont care if u buy the console and if this was there galaxy brain strategy then why not be a software/services publisher to begin with? how about making some games that are versatile and appeal to multiple markets before trying to root kit all devices.

Well, i mean gamepass is certainly a sign of this future of success as plausible.

its still better than stadia’s dumpster fire of a “netflix of gaming” decision
Ohh yes Gamepass has alot of potential... Just don't see how this will end the console war.

Doesn't most of these things already exist

First it was we don't care if you buy an Xbox as long as you buy the games. Then it was we don't care if you buy the Xbox or the games as long as you subscribe to Gamespass. They're running out of ways to shift the narrative which is the demand for their gaming products isn't where they want it to be and so they'll say anything to keep trying to sell their future hardware and services.

Who cares? Play the games you like on the console you like. We aren’t here to make these companies profitable, we are here to get value for our dollar.

They don’t deserve anything from us and should be doing what they can to make us want to spend our money on them, instead of elsewhere.

Is this the big picture from the industry; kill living room consoles and move to PC/subscription services, so that the 100% digital future can begin?

If our choices are being moved towards streaming and digital, then it's no surprise that Gamestop and Game are on their arse again.

I don't recognise Microsoft anymore tbh, they've come so far away from their original plans with the 360 that it's confusing

Guess you live in a different reality than I do. I definitely struck a nerve because your retort didn't refute my opinion. If anything the blind defense reinforced it.
Nah I think it’s more like it’s hard to refute ignorance and rarely worth the time. I know I’m personally done with it, and it seems like most people are as well.

Your time would probably be better served if you went into threads about the things you do like instead of going and shitting up other threads because you don’t like them.

Just a thought.

Maybe you should apply to be a mod so you do it from the front seat instead of from the back? You don't know me well enough to tell me what and where the fuck I should post and vice versa. The ignorance is people like you defending a plastic box from a soulless company. What fucking audacity lol.

Yeah but I wonder if you practice what you preach? Because if you're telling others to post in only topics they like or agree with you'd never be a hypocrite right? Don't have to dig through post history to figure it either. Grow the fuck up. Chickenshit driveby post to confirm it.

Microsoft creating its own set of custom excuses for when PS5 thrashes it.

Of course, if that doesn’t happen, look for Microsoft to tout the same metrics that it used to tout in its Xbox 360 heyday. Stupid, trivial metrics like # of consoles and games sold.

Might be in your interest to practice what you preach.

Towards that end do I need to show you a picture of my xbox? You want my gamertag too so you can check it's active? I mean since I AM a customer I should have a voice right? See you opened your fucking mouth without thought. You were so quick to be snarky.

I don’t give a shit what you do. TBH, and I already gave you more attention then your poor attitude deserves.

No fuck you. You all but accused me of being a fanboy of the other team. Now you look like an idiot. The one shitting up threads is you. Learn to separate being a fanboy over a customer like normal well adjusted adults normally do. You're a joke.

You didnt strike a nerve, genius. Your conspiracy theory about how the called "narrative " was beyond ridiculous when it comes to Xbox hardware and where and how they allow you to play your games.

They're literally giving gamers options, console hardware is just one way to play their games. Its not either/or. Its "in conjuction with"

Its you multi talented arm chair hardware developers, analysts and marketing guru types that need to keep your fucking day jobs, if I'm being honest.

Im going to be brutally honest here

This what makes me different from your notorious fanboy as i have no allegiance whatsoever to these companies...

Once a gaming company put their game on PC..its game over for them to get their system on my living room....

If Xbox and Ps are heading into this direction...well...allow me to say my farewell goodbye...

Nintendo will be the real winner from now on

Sonys going down that road. Its inevitable. Nintendo is the wild caes in all this. They've always been in their own lane. Sony is definitely going down the multi platform route.

Console war would end if dudes like you and Kagey would stop fighting it. You only want to hear opinions you agree with sadly. If only life were that simple you would be shielded from everyone and everything you deem negative. That's not reality.

I will continue to buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games.
Couldn't give two shits what Microsoft think about that.
Likely they don’t care, and are happy you choose games you like.

I think they are hoping that if they release a game you also like you will find a way to buy it.

They are trying to make it as easy as they can for you to have a way to play it.

The fuck are you even talking about. What you said is factually, patently irrevocably wrong. Microsoft doesn't care where you play their games. If they did, they wouldn't put their games on PC. The home console is just another entry point to get gamers in their ecosystem. They simply give the options. Where the fuck you even came up with the 1976 Twilight Zone episode is legit baffling.

Don’t even bother man. He is just furthering my point. Move on and pretend he isn’t here shitting up this thread.

Its a wasted effort.

If they truly didn't care where you played their games they'd stop making Xboxes and just go full service based. So no I think they do still care what and where you're playing.

Again, its either/orr with you. Clearly they don't care. They even allowed their games on Steam now. You may not agree and youre entitled to your opinion but youre wrong.

I'm asking a legitimate question. If they really don't care why waste the money on consoles? I'm a customer of what I like. And I play and buy games from both companies but it is a question worth asking imo. There's nothing wrong with gamers experiencing games across multiple platforms I question the end game of where they see this going.

I couldve sworn the Kat who released HZ news was the same who said Sony would skip E3 2020.
