Kotaku Sources: Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC

It makes sense to release your exclusives a couple years later on pc. Most would have bought it by that point if they were going to. Now you can maybe get the people who were never going to buy your console in the first place or a double dipper. Unless you are a serious fan boy I don't see how anyone could get upset about this.

I'm mostly a pc gamer and pc gaming is far more cumbersome than console gaming...

Look at rdr2 pc version topics, a shitload of people with different problems.
Look at monster hunter world where you have to disable the anticheat system with some trickery to avoid the cpu loss of power.
Look the last 2 ac with 100% cpu usage at launch even when you look a fucking wall...

Etc. Etc. Etc. (These are recent example but i have million of those)

Even the fact that some people necer heard of this problem is a proof of how fucking random pc gaming is...

The fact that the same game has 3274274826345427 variables, bugs, problem, perfromance issues etc on different PCs it's pretty maddening.

Yeah you can upgrade driver fromn nvidia app, except with games that give problem if you don't do a clean driver installation with DDU.

And i can continue for 5 years with all the shit you have on pc...vsycn from nvidia panel or ingame? Why this game can't accept fullscreen? Why i have to remove fullscreen optimization from windows properties etc. Etc. Etc.

People with little knowledge or patience are always gonna prefer console gaming, and they are perfectly right.

Let me make your point here for you:

If your game doesn't perform as well as you like and would like options on improving it, go with a PC.
If you are content playing whatever is served to you without say, go console.

But the fact is, many of the conveniences consoles once held are now gone. Day 1 patches, mandatory installs, data caps, storage limitations are all real problems of console gaming that no longer allow them to always be push and play. So I wouldn't waste my time focusing on the work involved in PC gaming when console gaming is serving its own plate of shit.

nah, on console you just have to wait until the patch is ready and let the console do the rest, i never had to do nothing on console, just waiting.

on pc you actively had to find solutions if something doesn't work correctly, and sometimes these solutions are far from easy for people without enough knowledge.

but yeah of course pc offer more choice etc.

This will be the end of Playstation if it happens on all former exclusives

As others have said, if this is made a habit, I could see it as good for shortterm business if they want to ad a few extra bucks from PC version but bad for longterm business.

This is a really double edge sword strategy. Either convert pc gamers to fall in love with HZD and make them buy PS5 and HZD2 if they can't wait, OR convert ps gamers just skip ps5 altogether and wait for pc release

Someone in the higher up there need a reminder that Xbox One suffers heavy loses from PS4 even with superior hardware has something to do with Microsoft decision releasing their game on PC

Hence it greatly reduces the need to buy Xbox One

Sony didn’t even support their own 4K Blu-ray format in the PS4 Pro. They care more about software/license sales than the hardware that the consumer is using.
The reason the Pro had no 4k drive was that they wanted to sell their own expensive players.

Unless of course you are out of hard drive space. Or hit your monthly data cap and can't download the day1 patch required to launch without incurring additional cost. Then yeah, all you have to do is wait. Fact is, we are far from the days of convenience in consoles that people still harp on.

It's hard to believe when Sony sold over 100 million PS4 and over 1 billion PS4 games, and games like Horizon sold a lot. I think this is bullshit unless then meant that Horizon was going to be added to PS Now and now you can play PS Now on PC.

Horizon isn't a case like ThatGameCompany, Quantic Dream or Kojipro, where Sony lets a 3rd party studio to publish after some time their games on PC to help them when they go solo as a thank you for all the years of working for them, or a licensor of MLB sees that the game sold a lot and wants to sell even more by going multi, and Sony prefers to do it themselves instead of losing this IP that this year release the best selling baseball game ever.

And well, even if it was true it would be stupid to sell it in Steam or Epic Stores when they can save this 30%/22% when Sony already has their own (super successful) store where they can save that by adding a PC games section there.

I won't believe it until I see it properly announced by Sony. Until then, for me instead of a rumor it's a fanboy guess.

I´m interested in buying this game if it comes to pc. 60fps without motion blur and a fov slider would be sweet.

I bet the developers would love to show off their creation in all it´s glory as well.

i mean, not having enough data cap or not being able of making order in your harddisk is not exactly console fault...
games are far complicated these days, betatesting isn't enough to catch all the bugs, so patches are a necessary but sad reality.

of course they are not plug and play like in the past but they are still less involved than pc gaming.

People saying that this is the end for Playstation are morons.

Opening up to PC wasn't the end for Xbox either, quite the opposite in fact. Software makes the big money and if Sony can sell more games a few years later then everyone is winning. Ideally Sony should just make a subscription service like Game Pass for PC....

Horizon Zero Dawn was added to PS Now earlier this month... it's already "playable on PC".

Whatever

I already made my decision not to buy Series X for the same reason

If Sony follow the same route ( releasing all their game on PC) I dont need to buy PS5 aswell

Making my wallet much healtier, with team red Nintendo as the only console i purchases in the near future

Its not a stupid but actually a very calculated and smart decision when you think of it

PC players have so many games to play, a far larger catalogue than any console, that waiting is not an issue for a single player experience. It'll play and look better for them as well.

As for the bolded, they've been enjoying what is next gen for you for years.
And what is that?

Except Sony makes a hell of a lot more money taking a cut of each game sold and psn plus than couple of games a year. Considering losing exclusives was in the top 3 reasons MS lost half their market share that is never coming back and is 1 more bad generation from the division from being shutdown. Sony can follow this foolhardy path of MS and lose console sales and make gabe rich. He is the only one who really makes money selling PC games.

This is absurd even by your standards. Come on. Only about 10% of PS4 players own Horizon. They could lose that 10% completely (which they wouldn't) and it'd barely make a dent. Same goes for Spider-Man and God of War, the vast majority of console owners don't give a shit about what happens on PC.

If this is true, you have to have some kind of mental illness to buy a PS5 and not a PC where you can play both Sony and MS games.

It’s about ecosystems, and the landscape is changing. Sony and Ms don’t care where you play their games, as long as it’s within their subscription based ecosystem. This is a win win for Sony because they will make more money.

sony wil only be releasing their old titles, in the hope to boost people to buy a ps5 to play the next release of it. Horizon is only getting released so people can experience the story and hopefully jump onboard when part 2 releases exclusive on ps5.

I guess if every one of them went over, yeah. If it's just Decima engine games or very select games that had years to sell on playstation first before then going to PC, I'm not sure if it takes a mental illness anymore.

In this case, if Jason's sources aren't his bollocks maybe they heard that was going to be playable in PC through PSNow but didn't understand it well and thought that it was going to be sold in PC stores like Steam or Epic.

Why the fuck would any sane person care if this move hurts Sonys bottom line? How much of a fanboy do you have to be to worry about a multi billion dollar conglomerates bottom line? You guys are like "OMEHGEERRD SOHNI SEL GAEM ON PEECEE, NO ON BUI KUNSOL ENIMOHR!".

Console gamers will stay console gamers, people who can't wait will buy the game on console, as this is and has always been the case with lots of multiplats who come out on console first. Microsoft is showing that this model doesn't hurt their bottom line at all... the xbox gaming division has been growing steadily for the past 3 years, despite having no games and being on PC as well... and on top of that they're practically giving away their new games on game pass Day1. Do you really believe that Sony is going to crash and burn if they'd go the same route?

There is actually no reason to believe that this is going to hurt Sony... there is only the proof that Microsoft is doing really well with such a business model. This might "hurt" Sony short term, but they'll most likely grow even more long term. Especially when they also introduce a service like game pass on PS5 and PC, since there is no better way to combat piracy on PC than a cheap subscription model

I just hope sony doesn't pull out a microsoft bullshit move like announcing all esclusives on pc after the launch of ps5.

I have a barely used xbox one for the same fucking reason...

Just announce all esclusive on pc before launch so i don't have to buy your console.

Remembers that "for the players" stuff? Now it's time to see if they are real or not with that shit.

Best question asked of this situation imo. But i think they probably will wait till after ps5 launch. Otherwise they'd self sabotage their own launch.

This seems like a plausible scenario, it might be a marketing strategy for PS5.
Release old PS4 games on PC, make sequels of those games only on PS5 and generate hype so that the PC games who loved those games will have to buy a PS5.

Yeah, it's better sabotage final users...

ForThePlayers...ass, indeed.

Curious of how sony stans are gonna spin this in a positive way...

At least now the situation with microsoft is pretty clear in terms of esclusivity.

lol Dreams is not old and also wont be getting a PS5 sequel.
Dreams will allow people to create games in sony's ecosystem. Dreams will let you create games on your pc and sell it on sony's marketplace (PS5 AND PC) just bookmark this and tell me i was right a few months from now.

Plenty of em lol. Some are saying its a "smart" business move but shitted on ms doing it.

Regardless of the news im still getting a Ps5 just like an xsx, although the xsx probably not at launch. I will build a pc later tho, this only pushed me more towards building one.

Nah i wont be giving them any money

i fully understand your position as an avid xbox fanboy youre abit triggered by what i said

But trust me this decision has nothing to do with such sentimentality

Unlike some of console warrior folks around here, i care not and have no allegiance to sony microsoft or nintendo

Its pure business il do what best for my interest and what benefit me most

No it couldn't. If they release exclusives on pc a few years after they release on their consoles.

Most sales (99%) would still go towards their console sales. And then a few years later you have the people who either double dip or just buy it for pc outright.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The early adopters spend the most money throughout the consoles lifespan. If this market sees you can pretty much get all software support sans Nintendo on PC (3rd parties + MS exclusives day one....wait a few years for Sony) that will def impact Sony's bottom line.....they get a cut in everything bought on a Playstation....not so on Steam.

But we'll have to wait and see.

Ever heard of torrent

Ever heard of uncracked Denuvo games? Or requiring server authentication to play games? There's absolutely no guarantee Sony's PC offerings could be pirated

Besides, does that mean you literally only pay for games when you have no other choice (i.e. it's locked to a console)? Or would it be some kind of misguided protest at Playstation no longer having full exclusives..?

Il only buy game thay i think worthy and apreciate its value...

If it turns out bad il just leave it be and wont be getting the original version...if its good il buy it cheap on Steam summer sales to show some apreciation to the developer...
